Yes you are correct, this car is way to slow, it struggles to get to 246kph, totally useless for us here in the UK where more roads are having their speed limits reduced to 32kph from 48kph and motorways have a max speed of 112.5kph.
I think I'll consider a used bugatti instead.
Well he is from Holland. Oh wait, I don't think they can drive over 130kph over there.
@@betterbeavailable 130 reduces to 100 rn
@@betterbeavailable
Because our cows are farting too much for Brussels pollution norms, we are 'temporarily' only allowed to go max 100 kph during the day. Really fun when your trip is 2 hours long
The dude reviewing this amazing car is an idiot that hates Peugeots. I have an "ordinary" 2014 308 , just 92bhp, and I drove it with 165kph with no problem.
One of the cleanest, smooth and original interiors I have ever seen
240 km/h with a 1.6, that is a very good engine !
And its not even the strongest version. The 308gti and RCZ R have a 270hp 1.6L
Didier Lemoine - Exactly what Quantum said. How long do you think this engine will last?
engine wont last over 50k kilometers without serious engine maintentance
That's so sad isn't it ? Peugeot is just going for downsizing because there're to many people driving cars, flying around and they try to "save the planet" like so..
There's basically noone in this world who'd think this is acutally saving anything.
Don't worry, the new THP are better than the first ones. And btw THP engines were made with BMW. Before that, Peugeot had the best engines in France if not in the Europe speaking about reliability.
I really like the new Peugeots. I like the cockpit, the design. I just like them.
Me2. The heightened dials are spot on for me. But, as always, in general, German cars offer better driving position, especially the AGR chairs on opels.
only retarded people drive peugeot

Most of people buying this car will never go over like 150 or 160 km per hour, wich is the max limitation for most countries, exept Germany with aurobahns, it's not a big deal for me that the car dont go over 220 kmh honestly. Whats concerning is the price to me
max limit for most countries is 130 but ok
The reviewer is a pretencious moron...
Its not accurate, thats the point. For example Toyota can't just say that their Aygo has a topspeed of 200
@@sjoerdjhe he was wrong about peugeots claim... peugeot isnt inaccurate. The reviewer just had his numbers confused and blamed it on the brand instead of his own stupiditu
Because people are stupid and can't understand that it is not every manufacturer's goal to go 0-100 in 3 secs and have a top speed of 300km/h.
They expect every car that looks sporty to have supercar like 0-100 and top speed.
Can't lie, a fast car is always pleasant but people expect brands that are not even premium to put up big numbers.
peugeot never claimed they were making a stupidly fast car.
225hp is enough for any road or hill even with 5 people in the car.
The lights do a little dance.... It's too much.
Funny how nobody ever says that about Audi's dancing lights.

A beautiful car, I have had the pleasure of one for three weeks in 2011, the 1.6 200 version.
I don’t know why people hate the engine of this car. It seems plenty fast and it’s very economical.
Maybe just the sound
Wold OliviO yeah the sound is terrible though, but it looks like a pretty good car for families. It’s for sure nothing special to drive.
@@rc4life860 yep. Just Like a VW. But who cares? Noone buys a car like this for the engine sound
A 2.0 or a V6 would fit this car well, it's a pretty big and heavy one after all.
Yes, I tested it and if a V6 would be better, that's impossible with EU regs and it's a nivce engine on a GT
So aggressive , AMAZING cabin , just W O W , the position is SO conmfortable AND sporty at the same time. I applaud you Peugeot :D
I have a 308 gt, and i have to say that this car is amazing, still has many things to improve, but we have to say that peugeot during the last 5 years made an amazing work!
I'm have the same car. I never go back with a big steering and middle cockpit. This reviewer juste want to drive in Audi RS6, I think and burn oil. The only thing i have to reproach is the sound in sport, too quiet.
I believe the 308 won the best European car of 2014
The second version of 2017 is still better, with the new touch screen, Android auto, and the steering correction. Toute can left the steering in freeway. It's turn alone.
@@Louis_Delgres he drove a 308gti and loved it but this 508 is not good as 308gti
Too much emphasis on top-speed man. Very little about ride and handling, just a few sweeping curves. Most of us don't spend hours doing 140mph+ so I think you've mis-judged this car. Very good effort from Peugeot, and far more interesting than the A4 3-series brigade.

Wow, pushing 240km plus on a 1.6L engine. That's pushing it pretty hard man to be honest, don't know what you're expecting and the comment you made about the ambience mode is ridiculous, take the car out of boost mode and you won't hear the acoustic engine noise, and if you want those dials you seemed to like just deactivate the ambience and select your colour scheme.
I drive a 2018 Peugeot 3008 (my first Peugeot) so I'm familiar with the i-cockpit.
It clearly shows zat Max don't like Peugeot,am not saying French cars.N i also admit its a harsh review.

Gouki818 get a grip 😂
Audi fan boy, the eat8 gearbox is awesome, stop saying everything is ridiculous and this is not a Bugatti don't need to get to 250 km/h in 2 seconds
i mean just be objective the video is in front of you. the gearbox sounds too slow in changing gears, indecisive in critical moments. if dsg performs beter maybe thats just the truth and nobody is a fan boy. if tomorrow eat8 performs better for real maybe people will appreciate that and prefer this over dsg. for now that is simply not the case.
The reviewer is a moron...
eat 8 is great, but compared with the rest on the market around the same pricepoint it is far from the best. There is no going around that fact.
just look how it shifts, its pure shit
If you have ever driven an audi dsg gearbox you will find that peugots automatics are pure garbage. I would know as my private car is an Audi a4 and my workplace car is a peugeot with the eat8 gearbox.
I love my Peugeot 508 , it is my first car and I love the fact that the info panel is apart from the steering wheel , I’m 6ft 8 and it feels perfect 👌 except for the rear sets
For me Peugeot now have find the way to go but need improve to be competitive!
244 KM/h with a 1.6L is very very good. My C5 2.8L Audi A6 Quattro which is a 200HP V6 barely reaches 240 and it also takes a pretty long... So this is very very good, and the top speed is 250KM/h, you would reach it if you had enough road, they didn't say how fast you would reach it, just that it can.
I tested the iCockpit in the 508 and I love it! (I'm 1,86m btw)
That's literally the best driving position I ever had in a car. Yes the steering wheel is a bit lower than on most cars, but it feels a lot more natural to me. I actually struggle with most car as I can't go low enough without obstructing the dials, no issues with the 508.
I learned to drive with an Aygo were the dials move with the steering wheel, so I could set the steering wheel in the most confortable way and know that I'm used to it, I struggle with most cars.
The truth is that race cars have the dials over a low steering wheel!
I also tested the engine, if it doesn't fit a sport car, on a GT like this 508 it's actually really nice and I love the gearbox. More the a DSG in town (even if the DSG is better on a track but that's not the real world).
In my 208 I also liked the small steering wheel and the high positioned speedometer. I dont like these big steering Wheels where you watch through the steering wheel.
Agree 100%!
@@markod1353 Marko D13 You realise that besides the peugeot having a small steering wheel, any other car can also have their steering wheel lowered? I dislike the 508's cabin as it is too cramped. I can't relax in it all!
Tested the 508 again today and hell yeah! Best seating position ever and the center console is not hurting my knees like in many German cars with way too large "altar" as center console.
@@Henry_Jr_Watsson Of course you can lower the steering wheel in other cars as well. The problem is that in many cars you can't lower it too much because then you can't see the whole speedometer. Take the VW Up for example. If I lower the steering wheel how I like, I can't see the speed range from about 70km/h to 160km/h. The way the VW designed the instrument cluster is too high up so as soon as you lower the steering wheel, the upper rim of the wheel blocks your view in the above mentioned speed range. Such ergonomic fuck ups really piss me off. So then, A) I have to raise the driver's seat, which with my 1,92m height is a no go, or, B) I'm forced to keep the steering wheel uncomfortably high. Whoever signed off the Up with such instrument cluster for production should get fired.
I'd love to have the VW Up as a second car for daily errands. I think it's really cool and has those lovely 3 cylinder engines, especially the 95hp TSI. But then they totally ruin it for me with that stupid instrument cluster. Oh, and no center armrest. Another total flop in my book.
None of that happens in Peugeot cars. I haven't driven the 508 yet, only the 308 GTI and the 208 with the 82hp engine. But yeah, by the looks of it, especially in the rear, it looks pretty damn cramped. Also, I imagine the rear view visibility is crap. Add to that that there seems to be no rear wiper option. With such flat rear window, that should be standard, and I don't care about how much it spoils the design of the rear hatch. How's rear view visibility in your experience?
For me, i love the driving position that steering wheel lower to the knee and seat up high as much as possible (like an suv). In the long run it’s less fatigue.
It's a 225 hp mid size sedan, what were you expecting. A 265 hp sedan can barely reach 250km/h.
Yea and most people who are going to buy this are those who want a good car to commute to work, carry their family in and maybe the occasional road trip. I want to think this as sort of a BMW 5-series alternative
I dont think he get the point of a nice good looking commuter car with some extra spice under the bonnet. Price is good, fuel economy is very great, interior easy to use. Dis dodo thinks it is a rolls royce with 500+hp
Well his problem wasn't that it doesn't do 250 but the fact that Peugeot advertised it as the top speed, which in reality is not true
I have tested this engine in a ds car (forgot wich one) and I understand his statement, I was quite disapointed about the acceleration, I was looking for more much performance compared to my own 17year old bmw with a little 170hp
The new 508 is actually a very well engineered car! Not too heavy and well balanced

I think with Peugeot, it's always been either love it or hate it. The brand has always been trying to be "different" than anyone else, so it does many things on extreme.

I mean after testing super cars I can see why you fee it drives like a POS but for an econobox/midsize sedan it’s looks very great and plenty of power for the tiny engine. That would sell really well in the US based on the design alone.
Thank you for your opinion.
The top speed is 230 according to the people at Peugeot. So wtf Max?
It's actually 240, but not 250 as factory says. As he said you need to cross 200 km flooring it to reach effectively 250
Hmmm, no. Both the French and German brochures claim that the top speed of the 1.6 THP 225 is 250 km/h. You can always expect some variation around the factory claims but not as much.
@@herrv1906 Copy paste from my answer to another person : Remember the Bugatti veyron was announced with a top speed of 405 kph. That speed was indeed achieved, on a 8km straight line, with perfect temperature and perfect wind. That's something that would never happen in real conditions but because they achieved it once meant they were able to set it as their top speed. My question is : Why wouldn't the 508 be given a 250 kph top speed if they did it at least once ?
@@Dipierox Indeed, aerodynamics could explain the trick as the SCx is 0.62 for the 508 while it reaches 0.68 for the 308 GTI. In this setting, he is doing a 4km run slightly downhill.
For the Bugatti Veyron, as the drag force increases at the square of the speed meaning that at 400 km/h it has to spend 16 times the energy necessary at 100km/h. In the case of the Peugeot here, between 200 (reached easily) and 250 km/h, the difference represents "merely" 50% more drag force to counter.
No-one does this kind of speeds on a daily basis but I must say that each time that I have the occasion (as I am close to Germany), I do so.
I am 1,90 and drove the new 508 last week for a day. I think the main problem for most people with finding a good seating position is, that many drivers tend to adjust their backrest to flat back, so that they sit a bit like in a formula racecar, more lying.
You see that a lot, I guess they think that this sporty or something. I sit a bit more upright with the backrest in a upright position (as the rally drivers tend to do it) and then it is no problem at all. So: I had no problems with the cockpit position.
And Topspeed? Really? We are talking about Top seep in the year 2018/19? I don't know if thats relevant anymore.
I absolutely love 508's. Strange that the GT has that knob for cruise control, because our 508 1st gen has buttons on the steering wheel for everything you need really.
