From a silver and goldsmith / gem cutter and someone that works with Baltic amber perspective: I kept waiting for them to talk about how far back in human history the use of amber goes. It's a deep history and just one of the uses of amber in ancient times was as a fire starter. Amber burns, as it burns and more of it melts the fire will just keep increasing. Given the battle damage visible on the castle and then the possible torching of it after, I've always felt the amber room burned. If that's true then nothing would be found of it after a fire bad enough to destroy an entire castle.

@@gonefishing167 A good friend that got me into working with Baltic amber was an older lady from Latvia on the Baltic coast, where much amber is found. During WW2 her father was taken by the nazis and never came back. Many years later she learned her father had be executed by them because they released the photos they took of people before executing them. Her fathers photo was part of that release. I love working with amber but there's a part of it that's bitter sweet to me because of her fathers fate.

This documentary makes it appear as if the Amber Room had been Russian from the get go and only shortly mentions that it was crafted by Germans before being “presented” to the Russian Tsar.
But in fact is was a German art work ordered by the Prussian King Friedrich I for his Berlin Castle, designed by a German (Johann Friedrich Eosander) and manufactured by German craftsmen.
Although it belonged to the Russian empire later in history this is an important background story and not making that clear is a red flag in any documentary!
