      This movie was animated by the precursor to Ghibli Studios in Japan. Regardless of any differences, like the wood elves, it's perfect, weird creative animated flick. It's just godamn perfect in it's own right. Personally I like the goblins in this the most.

    Fact: One of the singers of this song is none other than the legendary Thurl Ravenscroft himself. The Goblin King, in the subsequent scene in this film was the late and legendary voice actor John Stephenson, who also voiced Bard the Bowman in this film. Stephenson made a name for himself with work for Hanna-Barbera during the 60s and 70s and beyond, also doing work for Rankin-Bass for this film as well as "The Return of the King." Otherwise, he is best known for his work on various 80s cartoons, namely GI Joe, The Smurfs, Bionic Six and above all others of that decade, The Transformers.

    "Trapped! The Goblins have us!"
    Second main opposition the company faces in the movie but definitely memorable. I very much like this version because the true menace is shown in the darkness--the towering monsters, sinister laughter and the 13 Dwarves and Bilbo, ALL captured and led to face who knows what fate. If it were in the firelight it would be one thing but that shot of the rock being rolled back, and Thorin's line above, makes it that much more ominous.

    I’m still a teenager kid and even though this movie was released 30 years before me, it is a huge part of my childhood, watching it on an old VHS TV with greasy popcorn hands and with my cousins over and over and I remember being obsessed with the hobbit so much I wanted to live in a hobbit hole, go outside barefoot, and go on a great adventure with my friends. This is truly the most memorable and important movie ever

    • @giornojoestar4411
      @giornojoestar4411 Před 9 lety +4

      Well I'm not Tolkien or his family. If they like it that's their opinion. Desolation of Smaug and Battle of the Five Armies felt awkward, cluttered, rushed, and (to me) did not carry the same amazing spirit of adventure I felt with the book version of The Hobbit.
      Tamriel, the Mayor and his aide's inclusion in the movies cut the pacing and dragged the story on, and without them the movies would have run the same exact way. Tamriel was in there to have a strong female lead and nothing else, The Mayor and his aide were "comic relief" and the aide repeatedly reminded us that he was useless and annoying. He didn't even change his ways, or something generic like that, and he just dissapears from the story afterwards.
      Smaug's attitude was completely different, which to me is the crux of "The Hobbit", to keep Smaug as he was; a strong, potent monster who was as wise as he was smug, not pissed and grouchy. I didn't like his voice either, it wasn't booming, ancient or commanding, just British. And voice deepened.
      The thing is that there was some real rubbish that felt so out of place and thought that you should just deal with it, like the barrel chase, Dwarves v Smaug "fight" with so much build up to a confusing and embarassing finale, and the Battle of the 5 armies (parts with Thorin and the Pale Orc and his lackey vs. Tamriel, mostly).
      I just feel that the adaption wasn't as good as it could be, and that many mistakes were made. My dad felt the same way, and he's read everything, including the Silmarillion.

      @laynerice4012 Před 9 lety

    • @pjdougherty6442
      @pjdougherty6442 Před 6 lety +28

      Nick Lancial I'm pretty sure the necromancer wasn't brought up in the book. Really Peter Jackson added a lot of things that weren't in the book, like a love interest for one of the dwarves, or Radagast the Brown who was mentioned but not shown, or Alfrid. They also turned multiple scenes that weren't fight scenes into fight scenes for the sake of having lots of action like the barrel ride or the confrontation with Smaug. Honestly, I think the Hobbit could have worked fine as 2 movies and been far more true to the book. As the film trilogy is, it's kinda overdone in my opinion.
