Josh Pate take on Dabo just mirrors what Big Dave, DJ’s Father, basically said. Dabo being too prideful about the portal and not wanting to evolve like everyone else will be the reason why Clemson will not ever go back to the college playoffs. Big Dave was right all along. We all owe DJ an apology. It was not his fault. Dabo failed him, the fans failed him. Cade is not the answer. By a long shot.

Heard my first Canes game at 5 years old on a Friday night in 1948 on my dad's car radio WQAM 560 AM as he worked at National Airlines Maintenace hanger on 36th street. The coach then was Andy Gustason. I like the UofM so much I attended 1961-65 and never missed a home game in the Orange Bowl as a student graduating in 1965 with George Mira the Matador. The drought may be over after years in the wilderness. Only if we could redo that Georgia Tech game and win by taking 3-4 knee downs. Go Canes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So don’t tell me that Tony Elliott is the missing piece but the hottest name last year in hires was the oc for Clemson this year…. You could have forgotten because he’s stunk but Lincoln Riley’s brother Garrett.
I think Venables will prove to be not the guy at Oklahoma. Dabo’s coordinator loyalty and player loyalty helped Clemson a lot, but I wouldn’t say Dabo isnt the main reason clemson was successful
Reuben Bain wasn’t given five stars simply because he’s listed at 6’2” but he is an absolute monster.

Bain is a generational type player. Miami has had some of the best player that have gone out and dominated the NFL. Mr Bain is as good as any of those great Miami players.
Tyler Grisham - WR coach. Ex player and friend of the program with no coaching history before.
Thomas Austin - O Line coach. Ex player and friend of the program with no coaching history before.
CJ Spiller - RB coach. Ex player and friend of the program with no coaching history before.
Since these coaches took over their roles, the players they lead have shown ZERO improvement from the time they step on campus. Wes Goodwin, another guy who's never coached is now defensive coordinator. There is not a single top level program who would make these hires, but Dabo did after his second title, and its really showing. Clemson still recruits 4 and 5 star talent but from the time they are a freshman to the time they leave as JR or SR, they do not seem to get any better. He's refused the transfer portal because he wants to keep everything in house, the Clemson Culture. Last week, he even went as far as calling out the fan base for being upset with the direction the program seems to be going. What I saw Saturday night gave me the most terrified feeling I've had as a Tiger fan in a VERY long time. I'm afraid that even if the transfer portal is finally used this off season, that there are too many underlying issues that can't be fixed in a single year. Dabo hit a home run with the Morris and Venebles hires. But this staff he has now just isnt cutting it. And to all the haters that say "Clemson only won because they had 2 generational QB's" .. well yeah. Championship teams tend to have top level QB. That's why they win Championships. But even if a Deshaun Watson or Trevor Lawrence walks on campus, the team I see on the field right now is so scrambled that even they couldn't fix it. The team is terrified of short yardage situations because they know they can't man up and get one yard. The WR's can't seem to get open more than 10 yards down the field unless a defender falls down. Cade Klubnik seems to be struggling with the bright lights. This team had 2 weeks to prepare for Miami. And that is the product Dabo put on the field and expected this fan base to cheer for. I love my Tigers and always will. But a LOT of people in Clemson, coaches and players, need to take a long look in the mirror.

Well said. People want to talk about NIL and Transfer portal and ignore how our receivers look promising as freshmen and can't catch by year 2. We desperately need to shake up this coaching AND CONDITIONING staff. we can't seem to figure out a way to keep our players healthy the rate we used to.

As a hurricane fan you hit the nail on the head we have done the same for 20 years by always hiring unproven coaches and hometown boys. And it just don’t work out. Not really sold on Mario but he’s beginning to change a little to understand his way is not always the best way. You gotta bring in experienced coaches who has proven to develop players and get the best out of them and demand excellence. Great defense from Clemson but that offense needs some playmakers I’m afraid to say but if Tyler had played I don’t think it would have been close

There has been a comparison between Verse and Bain since week 1. Verse is already a future NFL player. Bain is showing us he was a 5 STAR TALENT +, but Verse isn't playing against Bain no no he's going against another future Freshman All American in #61 Mauigoa!!! Look up how many sacks he's given up, pancakes and pressures aloud! Destroyed Tex a&m and Clemson dline !!! Mauigoa is doing what Bain is doing on the other side of the trenches. I can't wait !
This season is the best thing that could possibly happen for Clemson and Dabo. I'm a lifelong fan. There are changes that need to be made. Now somebody can finally swallow their pride and adjust to the unfortunate landscape of college football today.
That seems to be the attitude of my in-laws family as well (all Clemson fans by geography or alumni status) . The youngest one is 13 now with dreams of being a cheerleader for the team, and she doesn't quite understand what it means to have Clemson not be good this year, but everyone else knows that the program is going to get dragged kicking and screaming into the 12 team playoff era based on how this season is going. Dabo is going to need to find better coordinators and accept dipping into the transfer portal to fill deficiencies.

It’s an upset because of the so called talent blue chip ratio, returning starters, coaching, who both teams have losses against and past history of head to head match ups so with that, it’s an upset in that sense. Other than Miami playing at home, Clemson should be favored to win regardless of their win loss record. Oh and Miami starting a true freshman QB. Miami has closed the gap against Clemson who is the standard.

I’ll say it now like I said it before, I saw this situation coming for Clemson 4 years ago before they got run out of the playoff by Ohio state. This program got by on talent, and it covered up the poor coaching. They don’t develop talent. And Dabo is nepotistic with his hires.
It’s quite the opposite, all of those coaches 4 years ago have since gone and Dabo did hire their replacements internally who can’t develop 4-5 stars and have no actual coaching experience. But those coaches 4 years ago definitely built championship teams with 3-stars and walk-ons.
Brooks, Caldwell, Elliot, Venables, Scott, all top notch coaches. All gone now. Dabo needs to get rid of the incompetent coaches he now has and hire experienced winners. He did it before. And even a little dipping into the portal would not be a bad idea. We shall see.

Clemson doesn't even need to do anything "uncomfortable" to free up roster space. There's no rule that says you have to sign 22 or 23 high school kids each class. You can sign 18 and get 5 transfers. Those lower-end guys that you aren't taking out of high school you can try to get them to transfer in later IF they turn out to be players. It's not like the transfer portal was brand new this year. Dabo is just too stubborn to admit he was wrong.

Long time Clemson fan here. You are 100% correct in your assessment. Until the pride issue is fixed it is only going to get worse.
Dabo has done what every narcissistic coach, pastor, tyrant and CEO has done in the past... surrounded himself with yes-men and created an echo chamber. This all by itself will prevent Clemson from returning to a high level of performance. I've seen it over and over again... Adversity and diversity of opinion breed excellence because they expose and deal with blind spots. Whereas unrivaled success which leads to a dictatorial control by the leader will eventually breed mediocrity.
With the segment that begins at 4:40. I agree to an extent but it does suck that your "top" teams lose any real reason to play. I've heard your take on the 12 team playoff but I truly believe it will help CFB. The teams like Air Force and James Madison as well as other 1 loss teams that lost because of luck not falling their way get another shot at glory. There is still incentive to be the top 4 but it helps "spread the wealth" of success or at least the chance at it.
I know everyone says they don't want to see the same 4-5 teams in the playoff every year and this is a great way to help that. The National Championship isn't about finding the best team. It's about finding the team that wants it the most, with a little bit of luck, maybe a lot of luck.
So if we did the 12 Team Playoffs like you want- Dawgs would play No. 12 Raanked Airforce and would whoop up on them. it’ll still be the same 6 teams that are always there.

Don't call it an upset. Clemson has been struggling all year. Miami has more talent and dare I say it after the GATech debacle, better coached.
Don't forget about Clem - This Miami fan is still on cloud nine over the Miami win - I would not take Clem lightly - Dabo had fsu on the mat ready to give them the knock out punch when their kicker misfired on a 20 yard field goal at the end of the game. Miami fumbled last week going into the end zone, this week it was Clem. I look for Dabo to win out, they have too much talent to fold the tent up yet.

Clemson lost some really good coordinators in recent years and Dabo's ego has tanked his program. I think Dabo is done if he doesn't change. The game has changed he has to adapt or die.

Some say that Dabo Swinney lost the game on purpose to get rid of bandwagon jumpers. It must be nice making eleven million dollars per season just to lose games on purpose. Dabo Swinney has his life made
This falls on Dabo and his terrible hiring practices. Every position group looked bad even tho they have talent at those positions. If he doesn’t go out and get the best coaches to coach the best talent this will continue to be the results. Even strength and conditioning is taking a hit with the amount of injuries they accumulate weekly. I don’t think Dabo has it in his to admit his little project of hiring internally is a failure yet along the guts to fire all of those guys he gave jobs to. QB position should also be opened up to the other guys for a shot, Cade isn’t the answer, he plays too scared and is actually not listening to coaches at this point.
Reminds me of FSU doing a dirty hit to knock out Duke QB because FSU was losing. Yes, they got the penalty but they won the game. FSU wanted to win so bad that they were willing to play dirty. Duke did not try dirty plays to take out FSU QB. So, Duke lost because FSU wanted it more. Same point applies to Clemson. College Football is a money and transfer portal game now. If you don’t adapt, you will lose.

There isn’t a talent defiency at Clemson. The players that Clemson sign are the same players that Alabama, UGA, Ohio State, FSU and any other of the top programs in the country recruit.
Sometimes you hit and miss on certain players and back in 2018 Clemson Freshman class brought in Joseph Ngata, Frank Ladson who were #6 and #8 at the WR position. They were brought in to compliment Justyn Ross but they didn’t pan out and that hurt DJs production on the field the previous two years because they stayed hurt more than they were healthy.
Here is another reason Clemson doesn’t lack elite talent. Go look at the last 5 classes at Clemson and you will see that Clemson continues to go into Georgia, Alabama and Texas and get some of the top talent in those talent rich states.
Over those same five previous draft class you will see that Clemson is signing the best QBs in the country.
Losing Venables didn’t hurt Clemson as much as you think. Wes Godwin is still getting the best defensive player just like when Venables was here. No drop off at all on the defensive side of the ball.
When it comes to the assistant coaches. CJ Spiller was one of the best to do it at Clemson. He knows the position and he know how to coach that position.
The only other new addition is Garret Riley who was named the best assistant coach in all of football and Nick Eason who has coached previously at Auburn and in the NFL. So, I don’t understand what you mean when you bring up the assistant coaches.
What is happening at Clemson is what happens at many of the top programs. Alabama and Ohio St usually has amongst the top 5 recruiting classes and they both have loss at least 2 games the past 4 years. Ohio State haven’t won a national championship in almost 10 years.
Clemson isn’t going anywhere. This years WRs Wesco and Moore along with the WRs already at Clemson is gonna propel Clemson back to the top.
You acting like Clemson is getting beat down and losing by 10-20 points a game. That isn’t the case. They are losing because of ball security.
You say there are some things that need to be fixed at Clemson. The only thing that need to be fixed is the players in particular Cade Klubnik and Shipley holding onto the ball in the red zone or in critical moments in the game.
That is the only problem. Every player on Clemson team would be scooped up immediately if they hit the portal so why would we go enter the portal looking for players to replace the players we already have when the players we have are amongst the best in college football.
You don’t just throw away players that you believe in. It’s not a good look on the recruiting trail because a player or a parent my say “ hmmm what happens if my son go to Clemson and doesn’t do well his first year, are they gonna ask him to leave”. It’s not a message or loyalty if that is what you are advocating as a coach.

The coaching and recruiting has slipped at Clemson.
FSU was left for dead and had to adapt and evolve with the times. They did and they sit atop the ACC and are in the playoff hunt.
Dabo is as stubborn, hard-headed and holier-than-thou as they come and he refuses to adapt and evolve with the times. The result is that Clemson is going back to being what they were before Watson and Lawrence. An average team that can have a few good years here and there.
I'm not a Clemson fan, so it's interesting to see Clemson fans start noticing the annoying things Dabo does and says that others have seen for years. You can ignore it when they win, but now you can't.
You have described Clemson to perfection. Clemson is an average program that stole two national championships due to a cupcake ACC schedule. If Clemson switches to a more competitive conference they will be exposed mightily.

From what Ive heard, becuase there is a better chance to make the playoff now then it was in the bcs, people are starting to only worry about who's in when college football is more than that. like for example I believe rivalries were better back then (from what Ive watched). Miami and FSU now if they aren't contenders then the games dont mean as much, same for FSU v Florida. Back then I beleive those games meant more to the players no matter their record and it was always their biggest game of the year. I like the playoff but I get his argument.

You know it’s kind of messed up how this is being downplayed with the “this a down Clemson thing”. But I’ve never seen that said for Clemson beating these “down Miami teams” Miami hasn’t had consistent 10 win teams. Clemson has had at least 10 wins since 2011!! Don’t give me this they down.
