  • Tim Keller delves into the resurrection of Jesus from Luke 24, emphasizing its historical and spiritual significance. He contends that the disciples experienced Jesus' post-death presence, empowering them with forgiveness and a renewed mission. Keller sees these events as symbolic representations of deeper truths like forgiveness, hope, and new life. He stresses the ongoing impact of the resurrection and explores its role in reconciling beliefs and understanding sacrifices in the Old Testament. Keller concludes by highlighting the resurrection's significance in elevating Jesus as the true King in our lives and as a key to understanding the Scriptures.
Watch Tim Keller preach on Jesus' vindication from Luke 24 at The Gospel Coalition's 2013 National Conference at Rosen Shingle Creek in Orlando.

"You were made to be ruled. If you don't acknowledge Jesus as King, you will serve/bow the knee to somebody. You won't admit that's what you're doing. Human nature will be served. If it doesn't get food it will gobble poison. You need a King. You will serve somebody. This is your King. Obey Him."

This is such a rich tapestry of truth and wonder. At 23:50 "God is pleased with him. He must have been cursed and abandoned for the sins of somebody else." I had never considered Paul's thought processes after he saw our resurrected Lord. Thank you, Pastor Keller, for one of the best messages I've ever heard.

Dr. Keller is now my favorite communicator of the Gospel, now more than ever. In 2012 I suffered a brain aneurism that put me in a coma for four weeks. When I regained consciousness, I said about my wife of 17 years, I'm not sure WHO she is, but I think I like her a lot. (And no, I don't remember saying this!). In 2013, the congregation I was serving when I got sick hosted a 'celebration service' that we filmed and posted onto CZcams. Run a search on my full name, "Charles Frank Kurtz" and you'll find it. Then tell everyone you know that miracles STILL happen!!! The fact that I'm alive to even SAY that is a miracle!!!

Tim begins this by speaking of how change comes about. Change could possibly come to the world of first century Jews, gentiles, even Romans, and no doubt did. Seeing Jesus as the image of God was for outliers only at the start, but spread through Jews, primarily Paul, and found a home with gentiles. Elements of his story, such as the resurrection, were a factor in the explosion of the faith. Yet we still see, thousands of years later, many Christians dubious about the resurrection who stay committed to the faith. There is something important in it, especially for the least, the humble, the poor; for any who see the beauty of it. The world is not founded on love. God is love.

I noticed you have no icons or any crosses in your building; my question is why then do you have a Bible. A Bible is a picture in word form and once you read it’s words it is a living well of information. The Bible is thee most iconic icon there is. God said you will not make any physical representation of me but Jesus Christ came on earth in the flesh and that in itself is an Icon. Perhaps in an idealistic way there should be no Bible and purely a passing of the scriptures by way of mouth. Words are icons and often more vivid than pictures.

Wow, almost don’t know how to respond to this but feel I need to try. First the Bible has 783,137 words per google. Think we should memorize this and pass on orally? My faith is lifted by the Bible, the depth and continuity that exists through out the Bible from page one to the last page is so beyond what men could do it had to be inspired by the Holy Spirit. Next Jesus himself is an icon? Here is what you have wrong, Jesus was not representing God, He was/is God.
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us…
Our God is one God in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. They are the same God. I will be honest I don’t really understand it and don’t think anyone this side of heaven does but Jesus said if you have seen Him you have seen the Father John 14:9.
Praying for you, hope someday we can continue this discussion in heaven where we both will have a much better understanding.

Jesus came as the pure icon/image of God. The Scriptures reveal Him accurately to us today.

Keller is one of my favorites but he is very wrong in that Paul never saw the risen Christ acts only saw he saw a light which blinded him , Paul only heard the voice . Show me any scripture that Paul was an eve witness of the risen Christ. The Bible defines an apostle an eye witness of the Resurrection of christ only. This is proof that Paul wan not an apostle but just a discipline of Jesus.

“and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me.”
