I Restored a Rust Damaged Vintage Tool Box - Liked the color?
Hi guys! How are you doing?
In this video i restored a damaged rust yintage tool box.
I find this tool box in a place that sell all tipes wastes of iron, as you can see the tool box was in a very bad shape and damaged.
The brand that made this tool box is Marcon, a very big company here in Brazil.
To begin the restoration i use my handdrill (i dont know the right name of this tool) to mill the rivets, this took some good time.
After all the rivets removed i use a screwdriver to disassemble, that part was not very hard.
First i had to brush all the dust and sand to started to clean, than i use some degreaser to make a deep cleaning and washed the parts.
Time to Remove the old red paint, i dont know if the red was the original color.
When all the painted was removed i begin to make a process to remove the rust, things getting hard here when you don't have a sandblaster.
To rid off the rust i use hydrochloric acid with hot water, this process make be more easier to wire brush.
After all brushed, i begin to fill the little holes with Plastic filler, the right solution for the problem.
When the filler is dried i sand and painted with Primer.
I chose Pink to be the color, its my favorite color you know? Just kidding!
The color choise was Red.
With the parts dring from paint i decide to make a mirror polish in some pieces.
And with all done, is time to assemble.
The Assembly was easy, i didn't find rivets so i used screws, i also make some rubber bases just for protection.
And thats all, this one is not a perfect and a super glossy restoration but for me to use this tool box, is enough. Yep! I was needing a new one hehe'

Very nice clean up job, especially with the tools available. Takes a lot of patience. If you can find rubber feet for it, that will keep it from scratching up your floor or table.
Thanks Pat's! ❤️
Well done! Back to being a useful box.
Thanks Mitch!
Sweet!
Thanks Bro! 🍬 ❤️
I LOVE A PINK TOOL BOX!

A ideia da borracha no fundo... Gostei! Vou copiar! Parabéns mais uma vez.
Muito obrigado Marcio!
I would put plastic washers between the metals to assist with the leverage when opening closing.
Que legal! O português brasileiro é a língua da minha mãe.

Muchas gracias Amilcar! ♥️
Now, you just need a vintage key lock to complete the project.
It's a highly addictive video.
Thanks Metal! ❤️
Great job!!!
Thanks Colin! ❤️
Another fantastic restoration, my friend. Nicely done, looks great! 👍👍👊
Thanks Dirty! ❤️
In a lifetime I've owned half a dozen cantilevered toolboxes. Everyone of them self destructed after about 6 months of transporting tools to job sites . The other thing I found is that when you pack enough tools for the job, you can't lift the thing.
Good job , though , on the restoration!
Stavros
Thanks Steve! ❤️

Sweet 👍🏻 👍🏻

I have the exact same one, in grey and rust
Muito bom !
Obrigado Pérsio! ❤️
I’ve a toolbox just like that, the before version obviously. Probably going to stay like that too, but I can dream the fairies 🧚♀️ will come along some night and make it like your final product. Nice job 👍🏻
😆😆😆😆
Thanks Paul! ❤️🧚♀️🧚♀️
I have a bigger version. It has three layers of trays rather than two and is shaped like a barn.
Thanks Phillip! ❤️
Hey, I just wanted to jump in here and let you know I enjoyed the video. I have one that is as bad if not worse than the one you have. I want to restore it soon, I was very anxious to see how you did it. It seemed to be a very old box as is mine and wa curious how you removed the rust..I usually use The magic juice Evapo rust but it would take too much of it to soak. it. I may use the battery charger and soda method I cant remember what it's called but it would be cheap which I am. Grea video and the box looks great.
I put it in a bucket with water and a bit of hydrochloric ácid and let it for a day. If u wanted to do that please be careful wear mask and glasses for eye protection.
The pink was very red, I would have liked seeing it a little more pastel XD
I really thinked in paint with pink but, some subscribers probably will hate me for that 😆😆😆
Good job 👍 , see u on ur next Vlog ☺️ .
Thanks Mina! ❤️
Me: No way he can restore this
Workshop DC: Hold my tools
Thanks! 😆😆
Nice, though I'm worried that you may haver thrown out these parts at 1:48. You never know, in 20 years you may be looking for a couple broken pieces of plastic identical to these and will regret not keeping them 😆
😆😆😆
Yep, you never know If some day you will need unkown pieces hehe'
But these ones I throw in the garbage.
Thanks Bro! ❤️
You were very brave as I would have left it as too far gone. Nice job.
Thanks Tony! ❤️
😆oh~great's‼️
Thanks! ❤️
Great job mate. I fully enjoyed it. 👍🇦🇺
Thank you so much! ❤️
Removing the paint alone was really time consuming, nice restoration
Onde 1:
I don't know why but sometimes these box get awfully rusty by the time.
Correction: One 1...
Yep! This step took me some good time. Thanks One1!
@@aridemedina8770 maybe because the paint not good enough I think
Wow! you need to get a media blaster. Nice job though.
Is everything I wanted hehe'
Thanks John! ❤️
A media blaster would cut the work in half.
In the furure I'll bought a sandblaster 😉
Já me inscrevi! Grande abraço
Muito obrigado pela ajuda Ridi! ❤️
Hydrochloric acid partly removes rust but also forms iron chloride that has the same problems. The best way to remove rust is to brush it with a wire brush that eliminates unstable crusts and then treat the remaining pitted rust (that was along all of the inside corners and edging of the tool box) with phosphoric acid. It's cheap and will last a long time.
I wire brushed all the parts before paint, but thanks for the tip. And thanks for Watching! ❤️

Seen a lot of undending left to do LOL Looks nice but it's not undending it's straightening ;)
Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
Yep, but unfortunately i couldn't do most for some bend parts. Thanks oneshot!
I envy You all that time to spare.
Hehe' 😉
Obrigado Caio! ❤️
Hey brother, not sure it's asmr, had to really crank the volume for any effect. My .02 cents :)
It turned out just fine as you mention in the description. Function over form!
Thanks Doc! Next time I'll make a better sound.
What was used for the lining at 12.00mins?
Rubber EVA
What is that black material they put i the Box? Thanks for the super Video!
The material is Rubber. Thanks for Watching! ❤️

@@WorkshopDC thanks!🙂👍🏼💐
Hello what strength acid did you use? Great project btw😎
Hydrochloric acid.
Thanks Laurence! ❤️
nice job! check out our restorations too! thanks!
Thanks! ❤️
for me it looks red, not pink
Yep, is red. I was kidding when I say pink 😆😆❤️
@@WorkshopDC Great! I was worried I am colour blind😁.
The title should probably say "rust-damaged" but I'm not entirely sure. Don't worry about it my native language is English and I still don't say it right all the time😂. Great content as always!
Thanks Matthew! I'll change. ♥️
@@WorkshopDC no problem man. Keep up the great work!
You are correct but hardly anyone uses a hypen properly anymore.
@@pfadiva That's a good point
Help me..
