The term "snob" is thrown around quite liberally in the online fragrance community. But we hardly take the time to define it.
    So I'm doing just that.
This video discusses 3 attributes that, in my opinion, indicate that you may in fact be a fragrance snob.
If you identify with these attributes, it's ok. It is not a reflection of your character. It is just simply invaluable to know as much about yourself as possible. I hope this video offers you some tools of self-awareness, at least from my point of view!
After all the deep stuff, I also discuss 5 phenomenal niche fragrances in this video that can be had at Max Aroma! The link to check them out is below. Don’t forget about the discount code listed above!

Same here. I’m 55 and started about a year ago. Started out with designer fragrances and then I got my first niche for a Christmas gift. It was Amouage Interlude black iris. There’s a distinct difference between niche and designer, mainly quality and and uniqueness of the scent. Justin is a big influence in my fragrance purchases. In a good way. If you haven’t tried anything from Argos you should sample their stuff. Absolutely phenomenal!

How I realised I am becoming a fragrance snob for the first time:
I remember how I wanted to show to a friend how awful some niche fragrances can be. Smelling animalic and actually fecal. I chose my decant of Desert Caravan by the Gate for this. It was the worst thing I ever smelled. So awful, it was beyond me why anyone would pay money to smell like this. I hadn't smelled it for about a year when I sprayed it on a test stripe and prepared to be hilariously disgusted like before … But no. To my own surprise, I actually liked it! I liked the smelly poopy weird fragrance that disgusted me before! This was disturbing. Something had fundamentally changed. It was this moment that I realised that in only 3 years of collecting I had turned into a niche snob. It will be only a matter of time until I wear stuff like Tyrannosaurus Rex on a hot summer day in the office, laughing ignorantly at those peasants that will try to escape my fallout like scent cloud of extravagant perfume art. 😅

Please don't! I tried it at work and I was locked away in a small room with no windows or airflow. 😆 I love some poopy weird stuff myself but T-Rex... I just can't. I love Zoologist but man... you know how sometimes you get that mental reference and you can't get rid of it and it totally ruins a fragrance to you? T-Rex smells like pastrami to me, lol.

I'm not a snob, although it's all about me, myself and I. It's not all about niche fragrances. I tend to show more of a favor for fragrances that smells extraordinary, and projects like a beast, with at least 8 hours of longevity; therefore it doesn't matter to me whether it's Niche, or a main stream fragrance. I also don't rain on other people parade; no matter what floats your boat. I congratulate; not hate.

I don’t judge but I don’t always appreciate the scents others have chosen. Not because of the name or style or definition of the fragrance smell but how the fragrance smells on them. Some people smell amazing wearing Aqua de Gio (sic?) but some people shouldn’t wear it.

I am always asked what perfume are you wearing. It is difficult to respond because I know that the person asking me is not really a perfume wearer, but I tell them anyway, and they have no idea about niche perfumes. However, I also have lots of designer perfumes as well as I have been in this game probably before you were born. Thus, I have a huge collection, for which I am grateful as now I am unable to purchase anything new as I am now “retired” (not my choice) and have to watch every Penny I spend. I just got the Alghabra discovery set about a month ago and, wow, they have some bangers. Labyrinth of Spices is great, as is Eye of the Seven Hills. Istanbul's Soul is probably my favorite and will likely be my first full bottle. However, I feel like I have to mention Ancient Fortress because it was so unexpected and different. I didn't expect to love it because of its aquatic notes, but I have to say it is one of the most unique and well-crafted aquatics I've ever tried. Yes, it has that typical marine scent we all know but it doesn't define the experience. There is so much more surrounding it - leather, spices, and amber. Very unique and definitely worth checking out.

    Hey Justin
It is certainly interesting once you start the fragrance journey where discovery and sampling takes you... Up until the last 12months for me it's been the standard Acqua Di Gio and the likes of Davidoff and CK..
I sampled Amouage Rose incense recently and xerjoff range. World's apart in price but the depth of the fragrances are world's apart too.. my advice to anyone is sample sample sample and find fragrances that you like . And save for them... Don't need a 300+ bottle collection..
Another great informative video from you.. Cheers

Designer = this is what we should wear
Niche = this is what you could smell like
This insight right here seems obvious and yet hardly observed by most; like common sense..
I may also be just 2/3 because i dont judge people who like mainstream perfumes like BDC Sauvage and even Y. Also, i myself am open to designers so long as the composition seems different like Joop Splash, Boss Pure, Gianfranco Ferre in the mood for love, Tom Ford Grey Vetiver and Dunhill Century.
On top of your 5 fragrances which as you said were mostly spicy, my niche perfume is ganymede which has a fresh side but has depth or development with its leather, spice and a touch of woods.
This is great video that no content creator will think of discussing. Thanks JC

Great channel and great work! I agree with the distinction you made but IMHO I think that the fragrance community tends to oversimplify the distinction between the 2 groups. I have a lot of fragrances that (exception made for fragrance enthusiasts) are not exactly mainstream. I think about Dior Homme Intense, Dior Homme Parfum, Eau Sauvage Parfum, Prada Luna Rossa Black, Gentleman Reserve Privee. Some of these were super hyped or popular in the "fragrance community" but not so much outside. Never found anyone wearing the same type of fragrance in years of working in the office. The fact that the mainstream brands are deciding what we wear is true just partially, there is plenty of choice in the ouside world to smell unique and yet buy designer products. It largely depends also on taste. I'd probably pick Dior Homme intense over 100 other niche fragrances because that creation tells me a story and evokes unique feelings in me. But I get your point, designers are more concerned in what the public likes and more targeted to "please the masses" while there is more freedom and creativity on the niche side. Fragrance recommendations: if you have any change to get it in the US try Les Couvent fragrances, the perfumer is Jean-Claude Ellena. 2 in particular: Vetivera that became quickly my favourite vetiver fragrance, dark, wild and marine at the same time (something unique) and Ambra from the same collection, a magic scent!

I at this point have more niche frags in my collection it is not that I feel I am a niche snob but more that I love perfumery and love finding new things. With that out of the way I feel the best most iconic frags come from the designer private lines. And even the most iconic frags come from designers much more so then the niche side. I feel in the search to be unique and different many niche frags become more art and less of a timeless feel. Not all of course but in general this is how I feel

I wouldn't call myself one, since I do enjoy some designer releases as much as my niche favorites and I certainly don't judge people for being only into the ADGs or Polo of this world (in fact, I find the new ADG parfum release quite pleasant). That said, I do primarily wear my fragrances for myself, unless of course I have another goal in mind (ex: pleasing my SO while dining out or while at the office). I DO sometimes avoid things that are super popular at the time simply because I DO like to stand out when possible......but I won't be defiant simply for that reason. If I like it, I like it regardless...I will prob just roll my eyes a bit as I spray it on lol. And I'm ok with that.....I'm looking at YOU BR540 pwahahaha

Boundless is a wonderful rich scent. It's a little sweeter than most Amouage, but I love it. Wish it had stronger longevity, Thanks for the preso. Yeah....I concur on the distinction between niche and designer. My tastes are pretty broad, and if the weather is accommodating my rotation can be as diverse from day to day as: Overture Man, Hamdani, Angels Share, Jasmine Rouge, Akaster, to Myths Man. I am definitely a niche snob. When I look back at my Top 10 For Life list from 2019, compared to now, I can only look back in utter distain at that mostly designer 2019 list. The odd times I wear those fragrances now, I feel I may as well have worn nothing that day because I get nothing from it. Many of the reviewers I used to watch back in the day, I no longer watch because I don't want to hear about the new designer flanker "compliment monster" (or the same ole tired oldies from several years ago) they are raving about. It's a matter of personal growth for me.

Accessiblity is not considered or mentioned here. Designer frags are much more accessible, rather than having to mail order to sample or buy. I think of it like those who just watch mainstream corporate media. They are comfortable with what they're being told. Whereas, if you go and research news out of the box (niche), you'll learn of some real good things, and some really not so..... if that makes any sense...... For me, if you cover my eyes and I love the scent......Well, I'll love the scent regardless of the audience it's being catered and marketed too.

I think i'm literally the opposite of a niche snob.
    I. I'm largely apathetic to Niche releases. I'm curious, and watch videos but it's so expensive i so I'm not following closely.
    2. I don't seek to wear artistic fragrances and I 100% want to appeal to masses. Though i do wear only what I like.
    3. I judge people overtly and covertly for only liking niche fragrances & judging those that don't buy just niche.
Note re: #2: I get lots of decants of niche but 90% of the time my what smells good to me ends up being a mass appeal. Example, I'd take most blue/acquatics (BDC for example) over the decant i have of Elysium. Not for me. That happens most of the time. I mean my Scent of the Day is fricken Sean John Unforgivable baby! Not even high end designer lol.

These three signs make me more of a snob than I would've thought, with still more designer bottles than niche. 2/3rds snob. Flanker number 20 in a Designer range doesn't get me excited just by hearing about it, though I do actually like my gifted AdG parfum more than I would've thought. Also, mostly I wear what I feel like wearing, only adjusting the sprays to my surroundings if needed. Amouage overture to the office? Why not? I do like to expand my friends' horizons by letting them try something a bit more off the beaten path, but if they like their Armani Code, Versace Eros or Dior Sauvage better, then that's great for them, no judgement from me.
