@truth teller there are lands to explore in the world and oceans, but they are largely inhospitable due to the climate or pressure. Nothing like what it would have been like to cross the Appalachians for the first time, or to head your way west until you found a marker that said this 50 acres is yours. You could explore the Amazon i suppose but that is largely unexplored for a reason as well. That's why i think that quote is a true sentiment.

I'm beginning to understand what the driving force behind JP might be. It's become pretty clear with the political discourse in the wake of the George Floyd riots, seeing how my friends who are more accepting of the postmodern doctrine behave in response. There are a lot of people out there stuck in self-victimization and destruction impulses. Scary world coming. I am 21 years-old studying as hard as I can every day.

Holodomor sounds like something from Lord of The Rings, it's historical reality is tragic and an indictment of Communism. My own experience is meeting Vasile, a hard-working Romanian immigrant living in the UK today: His story is of the wholesale suppression of individual expression, of education under dogma and mistrust of others, under Chowchescu which was ever present until his overthrow. You don't have to be sent to a Gulag to suffer under Communism.

But they chose to not believe as they were ideologically-possessed, a term JP has used. Have you ever looked into what he says regarding this topic?
What he's actually criticizing is what we call "synthetic leftism" - or, the efforts put forward by the state (in the USA, mostly) to fight against Marxism by creating a fake left, designed to draw people away from Marxism, play on all the horrible aspects of liberalism Peterson correctly criticizes.
The only problem is, he's been taken in by the same lies the synthetic leftists have been. Look up "Congress for Cultural Freedom". The CIA founded things like "Partisan Review Magazine", which was what got Noam Chomsky his start. The idea was not to advance Marxism, however, but to fight AGAINST it and protect capitalism.

Thus, they lobby to have his Free Speech talks shut down and have 3-year-old-Level temper tantrums until they get their way.

Well he is a very smart guy and very erudite. He does show some bias though. Like, how does calling white privilege majority privilege help in the least concerning blacks in America? They went from slaves to second class citizens to minority and still underprivileged. And white society made boatloads of money with them.

    • @watchingforicarus3807
      @watchingforicarus3807 Před 6 lety +18

I think his point was that it was not inherently "whiteness" that caused it. To view "whiteness" as the problem (which the phrase "white privilege" suggests) is to suggest race is the key factor. This distinction is EXTREMELY important because viewing "whiteness" as the problem causes people to actually ignore the real problems society faces.
Think of this way, let's say you've got a swollen hand... all the ice in the world won't solve the problem if you're having a severe allergic reaction to something, you need to take a benadryl. This is why identifying the correct cause is way more critical than identifying merely the symptom.

+Stephen Marshall It sounds like you're still under many false assumptions from the marxist slanted education system that we allowed to slip in. Only very rich plantation owning whites (or free blacks or Indians) benefited from slavery. The rest of the population actually suffered from it. Impoverished whites suffered more than slaves because they couldn't compete. Also whites, esp. the Irish were also an early slave class and many whites were sent over to the early US penal colonies, as w/ Australia. Unfortunately those facts of history are now lost to you. Do check out Stephan Molyneux's, The Truth About Slavery, for a primer on this. You'll be shocked what you find out if you go digging. A narrative has been spun for you.

He obviously refers to communism when speaking of the 20th century simply because the Soviet Union and the communist experiments that happened, he refers to Marxism when alluding to Post Modernist ideology and socialism which are other forms of Marxism. It’s a very easy distinction. Marxism and Communism are essentially synonymous. They are one and the same, however Marxism is a much broader term that envelops are Marxism based ideologies. I was a crime and justice studies major and granted I had absolutely wonderful professors, who were passionate about law in the context of history and how laws have helped shape society, and who actually sought to educate and not indoctrinate, but as I analyze my time at UMass dartmouth, the more I listen to Jordan Peterson the more I see how corrupt the university is truly becoming. Some professors did attempt to indoctrinate and feed post modern doctrine which to my shame I did eat some of it up. Dr. Peterson,
While in my masters program, we had a couple people who based their thesis on precisely what 57:00 lays out. THERE WAS NOTHING TO BACK IT UP! There was one woman I remember in particular, her entire thesis was HER opinion and HER experience alone, regarding being the wife of a Hmong man and experiencing white privilege, and I called BS during her presentation and, OH BOY then did the academic hazing begin for me! They lorded over me with their post modernistic gavel, and said my comprehensive exams weren't "comprehensive" enough. Then they weren't written in an "academic enough" voice. Then they told me it wasn't concise enough, which made me laugh. WTH do you want? If you want comprehensive and academic, it sure the hell won't be "concise"! And anyone who has an advanced degree, knows what the hell I'm talking about.

Yep, as a doctoral student I saw a great deal of this. Dissertations have become nothing more than opinions. Often they are decorated with statistics, pseudo-experiments, mathematics, etc., But in the end they are ultimately ideological opinions. I'm not saying there's anything at all wrong with using different types of quantitative methods. I'm just saying it's clear to me that most these people don't really know what they're doing and what they're saying and that they think that using quantitative methods washes out all the opinion and ideology. It does not. the opinions are rooted in the very basics of the research; determines the questions, how those questions will be approached, the development of hypothesis, the collection of data, the cleaning of data, interpretation of analysis, it's all routed in a complex hierarchy of opinions. and don't get me wrong it all the cosmetology is of all the universes everything is ultimately an opinion, but if it is a reasonable and rigorous opinion and Analysis you want then you need to have some background and philosophy metaphysics logic and philosophy of logic. Then we simply don't do that anymore.

It's identitarian politics that is evil. Not anyone's skin color. Plenty of white liberals that are the problem...plenty of Black conservatives that are part of the solution. Watching this to try to clear my confusion about everything that’s going on in the debate on race in the US. Personally I’m digesting some of JP’s ideas on social issues as: the wrong way to solve a problem is to project your interpretation of that problem onto the entire structure of the universe and try to solve it top-down, as some of the ‘new radicals’ have done with race by adopting Marxist ideologies in their pursuit of justice. The right way to solve a problem is to solve it from the bottom-up, from the suffering-up so to speak; so that your solutions may be specific and realistic, so that your efforts to galvanize change may be rooted in the living reality of other individuals and the suffering you share, and so that we can avoid the all too present problem of subjugating others to our control in a vain attempt to escape the pain of living. In short, that our acceptance of suffering is the only hope for connection, connection is our only hope for democracy, and democracy our only hope for social progress.

Liberals? few if any, he has made little to no challenge to Liberalism, or Liberal policies. You might want to educate yourself on political philosophy if you think the Marxist lunatics who complain about white privilege are Liberals. The principles of Liberalism, and the principles of Marxism are fundamentally irreconcilable, and one cannot be both. The question is how many Neo-Progressives, and Leftists has he awoken? Many Liberals may vote for the Democratic party, but the Democratic party is not a Liberal party. I kept voting for them myself until 2016, but with Clinton's policy positions it became impossible, so I held my nose and voted for Trump hoping he had enough New Yorker in him to steer clear of authoritarian social conservative prohibitions, and so far that has proven to be largely true, luckily. However, if he makes good on his moronic promise to crack down on cannabis, and trample on states rights in so doing, he'll never get my vote again.

The difference between fascists and communist is fascist want run everything and the communist wants to own everything, they both want to have a one party system and destroy all opposition.
If you read history, you will find both have come about through anarchy.
The left, not necessarily the liberals, want the state to run everything.
The Democrats want you to believe in individual rights through governmental fiat.
The left wants you to believe that you can have rights without responsibilities and consequences. The history of the Democrats shows they act, in large part, just the opposite to what they profess.

We should have listened to his warnings and tried to fix this...now it seems infinitely harder here in 2020

Someone just introduced me to Yuri Bezmenov. The brilliant Bezmenov was speaking about ideological subversion back in the 1980s. Too bad he didn't live to see his predictions coming true.
