I'm in no way an expert, so that's why I ask: while studying The Lover by Marguerite Duras at school, I once wrote an essay calling the city Saigon, as the novel calls it, but my teacher said it is no longer Saigon, but Ho Chi Minh, and hearing you call it Saigon made me wonder if locals still call it that way, maybe because they got used to it, like it happened with Sri Lanka (or like the British named it, Ceylan). Do you (or anyone) know something about this? I think it's interesting.
Hi!! thank you for the sweet comment! my family is from the south and they still call it Saigon but I think it is out of habit and also bc it is shorter and easier to say(?)! From what I know, a lot of Vietnamese people who migrated after the fall of Saigon (like my parents) still call it Saigon. Officially it is Ho Chi Minh City! I think it depends on the person and how they were affected by the war as well.

when i visit family in the Philippines I’m considered really dark or tan lol 😂 just colorism tingz my relatives make me carry umbrellas and wear long sleeves like what it’s hot and humid weather there 😭 haha
I used to get so insecure from my relatives telling me i am too tan but now I embrace it!! I was happy to show my skin while I was out in vietnam!
