I own a sig sauer p220 and a Springfield 1911 TRP. As much as it pains me to say this. If it was an end of the world situation and I had to get up and go with only 1 gun. I'd pick the Sig...I'd probably cry the whole time though becuz God do I love my 1911. But I gotta call a strike a strike and a ball a ball. The Sig seems a hell of alot more less finicky.

Interesting video. I have not been keeping up with what is new at SIG for over 2 decades and it's for the simple reason my P220 I bought in 1992 has been my go to gun since that day that I never bothered looking to replace it. But now you done it. BTW: I still have the receipt and it says $295. And it was a brand new gun. Won't be seeing those kind of prices ever again.

Superb video and comparison. Love that Dan Wesson. Now, if I were to pick a .45 out of the box for defensive purposes, I would get a SIG P220. A 1911 can be extremely reliable (and I have no doubt that DW are excellent in that department), but typically one would have to run a few 100's round into it to be comfortable that it works reliably. The P220, on the other hand, just tends to work out of the box.

I think you had a very interesting and valid comparison going here, and not one that most people would have thought to do. But you lose some points, if I understood you correctly, for comparing a stock Dan Wesson to a SIG P220 with an aftermarket recoil reduction system installed. This hardly seems like a fair comparison, but at least you disclosed it. Sorry if that seems like nitpicking, but I probably would have put the factory recoil system back in for the video.
I knew something was up when you said the P220 had less muzzle flip than a similar weight 1911. I've owned P220's since the arrived in 1975 as the BDA, and low muzzle flip has never been their strong suit in stock guns. But other than that, I think this was an interesting comparison of two guns designed for the same mission and at similar price points. I find it interesting that we are looking at a top of the line SIG, versus an entry level Dan Wesson. I own both and they are fine handguns.

The Dan Wesson Rust on the interior of the hammers still mystifies me. Is it only inside of the skeletonized hammer and not on the outer surfaces ? If so the issue might be the sanding tool that was used to get inside the hammer was most likely also used to sand soft steel with imbedded into the tooling then transferring into the hammer stainless and then rusting. This is one of the most likely causes.

    • @BERETTA9mmUSA

robin taylor thanks for the comment. We had really bad luck with our Dan Wesson 10mm 1911... so that comparison video because of our experience would have been basically saying the DW 10mm Kodiak is not worth the money.. we haven’t had one single issue with the P220 Legion 10mm.. buy it with confidence and plenty of 10mm ammunition with that money you are saving from buying the SIG over the DW. So bottom line tbh, I don’t exactly remember what we said in this video, we filmed it six months ago... So I can’t remember if it was one way or the other. These 2 pistols I can say have never had an issue, aside from the very rusty hammers on both of the DW vigils.. - YB

About that rust on the D&W hammers, you can’t really knock it. People ask for tool steel and carbon steel and whatnot for the superior quality or performance they perceive over a MIM part or a stainless part that may not hold a trigger job as well. It is actually a selling point for a lot of people. It is one of the reasons we pick a more expensive gun over lower priced 1911’s. We asked for the old school cool.
Edit (because I’m a nerd): If the rusty hammer thing really bugged me, I would send the small parts off to have some type of high tech finish applied that wouldn’t affect the dimensions. This goes back to us (the market) requesting a nice steel part. What if the part you replace it with isn’t fit as well as the original? Might be the cheapest and best thing to do refinishing it.

Jim the fact of the matter is Dan Wesson knows of this issue and isn’t doing anything about it. That is horrible customer service and pushing out an inferior product to save a few nickles. The right thing to do would have been to bead blast blue, cerakote or dlc the hammers from the start at their expense… But Dan Wesson/CZ USA didn’t because they don’t care.

@@BERETTA9mmUSA have you by chance replaced it with a Stainless hammer? I reached out to DW, and they recommended my not doing it. Basically told me to keep it oiled, and polish as needed.
I have however been using something called EESOX. I am not a seller by any means. But it does help slow the rust issues.

I still have the Commander Dan Wesson Vigil and I just brush the hammer the best I can and then oil it. Not for everyone..... kinda like Glock, or 1911 Pistols. I know people who dislike all 3, several who hate the 1911 pistols.... they think they are all like the World War 2 1911 pistols and are not willing to even look at the new ones. (Their Loss) The Sig P220 Legion is Awesome! But not for everyone. 👊🥳😎👍🇺🇸. Beretta Sr.

Pistol Pete To be 100% honest it is 4 or 5 of my Cop Friends that come to mind and a “Discussion” I was having with them about how they love Glocks and hate 1911’s as I am the only Cop walking out to my car with a 1911 on my hip and my Glock in its Rig and it is hung over my shoulder. Anyway, I held up my end of the conversation and I am not sure if I changed their minds, but I still respect them..... they just do not like the Best Pistol on Planet Earth. Beretta Sr.

Hey Beretta Sr. & Jr., Talk about internal strief and sometimes turmoil trying to decide what to carry and be proficient with! As you guys know, I come from a 1911 family and can shoot them relatively well, but the safety of a DA/SA semi auto also has it's benefits. Although I have never owned a Sig Legion Series I have had and still own quite a few Sigs in 9mm and 45 acp with what I thought to be the best of both worlds being the P245 and or the P227. I've just acquired a primo DW Guardian imgur.com/a/nUji0lq that is a real shooter, but I still have a bunch of "Safe-Queen" 1911 that my Dad built that right now are seemingly inheritance pieces to my LEO Son as they are just too ultimate and sentimental to shoot or carry! Anyway, welcome to my life and good seeing you guys on a regular basis ';-)

Pictures look great! Always good to enjoy them and then pass them on to your Kiddos if the will appreciate them. We sure do love these two types of pistols. Sig P-Series, and 1911 full-size or Commanders Size are just so very good I just have to own 4 or 5 of all of them..... and with 1911’s make that 10 or more. :) I really dig the Legions for new buy Sigs.
Have a good one my friend. 👊🥳😎👍🇺🇸 Beretta Sr.

Beretta SR loves that single handed shooting. I like that.I don't do much of it. I will have to try that more while at the range. At the end of Covid...so, in bed watching some videos. Young Beretta sure can shoot! The Kid is good!!! Both of these are super nice firearms. My favorite trigger on a 1911 is the three triangle model. Just My opinion for The Dan Wesson, it needs a black trigger to complete the "Darth Vader" look. Do You agree? or, do You like it how it is? There isn't a better trigger on earth in a pistol than The 1911. Bar None!
