On these units you use a Sata to NGFF m.2 adapter to upgrade the storage. I have the Wyse 7020 and I went with 8GB DDR3 Sodomm memory, and 2 NGFF adapters for the storage. and, yes... I did get the 2nd. Sata channel fitting to use it. went with 2 512GB NGFF M.2 drives and it works great!

My ssd (2.5" Silicon Power 256GB SSd SD nand) was in a plastic housing. I opened it, measured and marked where to cut, and cut off the extra half that was not being used with a band saw. :) I 3d printed a "cap" to fit over the end that was cut. Fits nice and easy in the case with the cable extension.

I actually came to comment the same thing.

You totally compromised the passive cooling of the case. Also there are much shorter versions of that wire. You could have also gotten a higher capacity drive like the one it came with.

not really the air from the case fan is enough to cool your ssd and look at all the moderne m.2 ssd they dont put them into case they are all naked lol and they are faster .... if you realy want to be overly secure you could added a eathsink for m.2 ssd

If you open that SSD there it will be a PCB the size of the one you removed and you won't need cables. The video was funny and entertaining, but IMO you made it harder than it is.

Remove ssd from case, is the same size as ssd from mini pc, so you can use without extension cables

Good job. I saw somewhere you can split the plastic case and remove the actual electronics to halve its length.

    Thanks for your videos!
Was looking for a WinXP-capable machine in a small form factor, and found the Dell FX170. From your videos, it seemed a capble machine, but the 44pin IDE was a letdown, wanted something with sata ports, hopefully a PCI expansion and a couple video connectors. The 5010 seems to fit all these parameters, albeit is somewhat larger than I'd wanted (my goal was roughly 140mm wide, and this unit is 185mm or so, but hopefully without the case it'll shave off some width). Bough a unit from ebay for 38€, comes with 2GB RAM, 4GB flash and is supposedly brand new in opened box, with Win Embedded 7. Will add an external USB sata adapter for storage to test, and then upgrade the internal drive with your method. Planning to make a portable UMPC with it, to play some XP games on the go. Maybe will add active cooling to reduce height of the heatsink, 3D print a case with some small Aliexpress screen and reuse an Acer laptop battery pack for it. Certainly much more exciting than using Virtualbox (albeit perhaps a tad slower compared to my i5-8300H laptop with 16GB ram hahah)))) But well, for now will have to get it up and running first))))
    Cheers from Spain!

    THIS WAS STUPID
.... EASY TO FIND SHORTER CABLES.. THAN FUGGIN THAT 14 INCHER
.... IN FACT.. PAST TIME TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO SHORTEN A CABLE UP
    ... THIS WAS STUPID
... ALONG WITH THE FACT.. IF HE HAD REMOVED THE 4GB MEMORY
..... WHE WOULD HAVE DISCOVERED THE SLOT UNDERNEATH THE 4GB DRIVE
.... WHERE HE COULD HAVE PUT AN 8GB...
