Sandisk extreme is cheaper than the nintendo licensed sandisk sd card. It’s overkill but the sandisk ultra which is even more affordable seems is always out of stock. Sandisk ultra is probably the best value for the switch from sandisk if you could find the 512 available
gotta love it when the price skyrockets just because it got that authentic nintendo logo on it
@@asutora.5363 WD did the same thing with thier Internal SSD’s they used to be cheap for 1 tb now its $200+ just cause its has the PlayStation logo
@@christiansantamaria7233 i wonder what causes this other than splitting profits
thanks! You just saved me 8 min and 46 seconds
Not always the case
When you're choosing a micro SD card for a game console or a phone, it's important to look at something called IOPS, not just the linear writing speed. Why? Because consoles like the Nintendo Switch often need to quickly access many small files during game loading and gameplay, not just read or write big chunks of data in a straight line.
The key is to look for SD cards with an 'A2' rating. This A2 rating shows that the card is really good at this quick accessing of small files. It's usually the case that these A2 cards also have something called UHS Speed Class and Video Speed Class ratings, but don't worry about these too much.
In simple terms: when you're shopping for a new SD card, focus on finding an A2 card from a brand you trust. That's the best way to make sure your games load and run smoothly.
What is the difference between a1 and a2?
@OddYDaPiMp, the main difference between A1 and A2 is their ability to handle small data. A1 can handle 1,500 reads and 500 writes per second, while A2 can handle 4,000 reads and 2,000 writes. For devices like phones or the Nintendo Switch, where you load a game or read/write small data during gameplay, this matters. It helps reduce any possible lag. But it shouldn't impact the gaming experience unless the SD card is extremely slow or faulty.
Cards not labeled A1 or A2? They often fall behind the A1 in terms of performance. Both A1 and A2 cards typically offer fast continuous reading and writing speeds. So, A1 or A2 cards are a good choice unless you have specific needs like high-definition video recording.
For the Nintendo Switch, some games might load a bit faster on an A1 or A2 card, maybe by 1-15 seconds. But it's always good to check game-specific tests before deciding to upgrade. The real benefit is seen when transferring a lot of data. If you're moving data between the Switch and the SD card or making backups, you could save a lot of time with an A1 or A2 card, maybe around 20 minutes or even an hour.
In my area, the price difference between A1 and A2 cards isn't much. I usually go for the better one for a smoother experience, especially for backups. However, if you have a large SD card for your Switch and rarely transfer files, you're likely okay with what you have.
So the Liscense cards are worse for you switch lol
@@ParanoiaGentlman, in some sense, yes. A SanDisk 512GB Nintendo-branded card costs around €80-100, while a slightly faster Samsung Evo of the same size costs €35-40. If you don't get a Nintendo-branded card for free or as a bonus with a Switch purchase, then it's definitely a better option to buy just any other A2 class card from the shelf.
How do I find the IOPS rating on a product box? None of the cards ive been browsing seem to have it on their respective boxes.
Just barely upgraded to 256GB, it feels so good to install games without having to archive anything

Hey, dude. I just ran out of space on my 256 GB card, and haven't had to get a new card in probably 3 years so I found this video because I wanted to see if anything had changed since then. This video was excellent. Honestly, keep up the good work. 8 minutes and you covered everything. Awesome job.
Thank you so much for the support!
About how many games did the 256 GB card hold I just picked one up last night and all my games are still downloading
@@Marrero_05 That's really tough to say. If you're downloading a lot of games like Doom Eternal, then not as much as if you were downloading games like Cult of the Lamb. A lot of my big games, Witcher 3 for instance, were on the cartridge. But I have a lot of indie games that are digital and maybe a gig max. So I can't really answer that considering it depends on what you like to play.

So glad to have helped! Your Grandson will LOVE the Switch OLED I'm sure, it's a great system!
@@128KB thank you for the response.
My Grandson got the Switch OLED for Christmas and was truly excited. The biggest challenge is understanding the buttons on the joycons. He has played on touchscreen tablet for most of his gaming and is not familiar with controllers (joycon or otherwise). I have not been able to find a video on this topic: "How the buttons function in different games". Do you have one like this or can you point me to a place to learn about this?
Does the Switch OLED have the same read/write max limits as the older switch models or can it handle higher speeds? Great videos btw really appreciate them!

I have a 512 Samsung in my Switch Lite and a 1GB lexar in my OLED and both have been solid. I highly recommend sticking with the well known and reputable memory brands such as Sandisk, Samsung, PNY, and Lexar. I stay away from SP (Silicon Power) after one of their microsd cards failed and got so hot inside my retropie that it burned my hand after I ejected it. The one I replaced it with from a reputable brand worked fine.

I just want to ask for your opinion on the SD card Nintendo released which has 512 GB of storage 100 MB/s for read speed and 90 MB/s in write speed.
Also, does the type of Switch matter? ‘Cause I have the first Switch that came out

Hello,Does the 1TB have any problems such as; running the game slower or etc?
I am having my games bought from the Nintendo E shop, will the Nintendo SanDisk 256 work perfectly?
I’m just about to buy a switch oled and for Xmas and use it as a family console so want to get lots of space for a good price so I will defo look into that integral, does it almost seem to good to be true as the sd cards with the Nintendo branding are soo much more money??
The integral is amazing, never had an issue
@@128KB excellent thank you soo much I will buy one now 👍 also as someone that is new to a switch how does it work say for example I filled the memory card up can I buy another card for different games then say I went to play a game that has a save on a different card could I just put the other memory card in? Or do I have to transfer all game saves over to a bigger card?
I got x3 1.5TB Sandisk microSD. One in the Chamber with x2 in my fake cartridge/microSD holder.
How you need to transfer the game back into the switch inorder to play it? Or can it play straight from the sd card? Such as a sandisk
I always get the class 10 sd cards from san disk I have a 400gb sd card on my switch I ran out of space on my 128gb sd card and had to upgrade to a 400gb for more storage as games these are getting much bigger
can't go wrong with an official 1tb nintendo micro sd (the one that's TotK themed) :)
I have a question for Nintendo E shop will downloading games from the shop take more space ?
What do you mean? Compared to using cartridges? Yes, downloading games from the eShop will take up space
What about white and red sandisk it's 100 read and write 128 gb it's about 10$ it is worth it ?
The only thing different about the Nintendo sd card vs the regular sandisk sd xc card is the logo. That’s about it. It’s essentially the same thing.
I bought my switch and a 128 gb memory card cause I wanted to play breath of the wild. But I didn’t want to spend 360 bucks for a switch and Zelda. So i went to get one and they just stocked I didn’t think I would need a bigger memory card since I like to have physical games well covid hit so I got a 512gb the first one died after a year my second one was great but I bought to many games it was at the point of having 2- 512gb memory cards or buy a 1 tb. Since they became affordable I got a sandisk for 90 bucks so that’s what I am using I have 250 gb left to buy some more games
Awesome
Will the “image mate sandisk” work ??😂😅 or it like a camera thing
I bought a new switch AND a new card (more storage).
I transferred the data from my old card to the PC, and back onto the new card in the PC. Then I put the new card into the new Switch (now Primary).
The new card shows the data was transferred (120gb), but now I have to redownload all the games, which will be about another 90GBs.
How did my old 128gb card turn into a 220gb card on my new switch?
Would u think the Amazon basics micro SD card would work for switch oled? There's a comment they had to convert it to a type that is compatible for the switch?
Not sure on the read/write speeds of that, I'd say it's probably too slow
will any microsdxc card will do? even with the ones with only a picture of a phone on the box?
As I say in the video it needs to have a read speed of around 100mb/s, best to buy a known brand or the card may fail/corrupt
I had 1tb Sandisk Extreme under my Nintendo Switch Lite. is that enough?
Bought one when i have the switch lite then realized i would only be able to use it on that switch so now im waiting for a new switch to come out to use the sd card in it😂😂
How much is the price? I’m about to run out of storage by 18 GBs lol
i want to buy one for my switch lite (only for fortnite updates)
i see that there are different kinds of sandisk though...
ones witch the nintendo switch branding indeed, but also cheaper ones.
will the cheaper ones also be fine ?
Yeah better deals can be had like the Integral I show in the video
I am looking at the integral 512gb too. Does it still stand up?
Onn at Walmart that is the way I have had it for 2 years and it works wonderfully and I still can’t fill up and it may be 1 second slower ( that means you have to wait a whole sec for &20.00 less)
yeah off brand SD cards like sandisk is cheaper then nintendo brand. like when i went best buy to order online. there was a 1TB micro SD card sandisc for 200 dollers canada money. and for the nintendo brand it was 300 dollers for a 1TB micro SD card. i went with the biggest because my 256GB is full now. but it lasted me 4 years so thats really good. the 1TB micro SD card will last me the whole switchs life since switch 2 will be next year. i just hope switch 2 will still use micro SD card.
SanDisk isn't an off brand, it's one of/the leading brand in SD cards. The Nintendo cards are actually made by SanDisk, they just cost more because you're paying for the Nintendo logo on it. Glad yours is going strong and I'm sure Switch 2 will take microSD cards too but maybe the after A2 cards for better performance.

Just got my Lite couple days ago. About to buy a microsd at the moment and got so overwhelmed by class10, UHS, speeds, and all the names like extreme pro ultra plus evo etc etc. Still am so confused. If I can sort of grasp this is.... get a card thats uhs1 around 100mb/s. I was about to buy a card that was way too fast for my switch anyways so now I have dialed back abit and gone for more storage size than before. I just dont want to make a mistake and have my games tank hard and run slow etc. tldr which sd card = uh yes
That's right though, providing its around 100mb/s you're good, just make sure it's a good brand

Amazon basics 1TB card is $99 really tempted but not sure about it's quality.
I have a Sandisc Image Gate 512 GB A1 sd card. Is that one good enough?
What about Kingston MicroSD? Will they work on a Switch or Switch Lite?
Kingston is a great brand, just make sure the read speed is around 100mb/s
@@128KB Okay. Thank you^^
I got a 128GB SDXC Kingston Card with 80mb/sec, I just get slightly slower load times?

Does the write speed matter for the micro sd?
I have a Switch Lite and this would be my first time putting a micro sd card in it.
If I were to buy a smaller micro sd card now and eventually fill that up is it a lot of trouble to upgrade my micro sd card size later?
Or am I better off getting a larger micro sd card now, like a 1 tb? And just save myself the trouble of having to upgrade later?
Any input on this is appreciated!

HC is high capacity up to either 32GB or 64GB, XC is extended capacity up to 2TB. It's just the way they label them. It's all down to what I explain in the video, you need one with a high read speed up to 100MB/s.
