The videographer is mingling Venice Beach with Santa Monica -- two distinctly different places (albeit next to each other geographically). Santa Monica can be flavorful but doesn't have the grit of Venice. It's simple really: if you don't like urban danger and prefer a posh vacation, stay in Santa Monica and venture south to Venice for a brief taste of what it's about.
The fences ar protecting the beach to be eroded by the wind. In the winter time most if the beaches uses fences made mostly out of reed in my place on the Black Sea coast.
We live just off Fleet Street and we triple lock our doors at night, it's changed so much around here over the years. Safety first man, safety first.....👏
Anyone that orders KFC instead of Chick-fil-A is kinda sus to me. But to be serious, yes Venice Beach can be a little bit scary at night but i live there for several months now and walked from Santa Monica back home many times and nothing ever happened, so it does look much worse then it is in the end.
Venice beach at night is like the sketchy areas of the Rockaways (Hammels) but due to the fact the commercial strips are mroe inland the boardwalk area is nicer since is mainly residential. And again Rockaways are less commercial. I would like to visit Venice and I encourage those from La to check the Rockaways for comparison --- both are fascinating places with some great beauty.
Honestly Venice reminds me somewhat of the busier sections of the Rockaways (around 116th as well as parts of Coney Island and the beaches themselves a little like the South Jersey Shore. I like the variety of restaurants and shops Venice has and i sdeems the city really tries to keep the park and beach areas clean (better than here in NYC at least) but I love the quiet and nature you find in the Rockaways Queens - basically from Jacob Riis to Breezy Point. Well worth the visit.
Venice Beach is way more sketch these days. I lived there about 25 years ago and could walk freely any time of day or night without fear and nothing bad ever happened. Place seemed so tense when I went last summer - so many poseurs, way more drugs and definitely not fam friendly.
I’ve spent a lot of time in Venice. Still bummed I didn’t move there. It def is sketch at night for sure. But it has its own set of rules and sub culture. Most homeless don’t mess with ya. But the crazy ones will
Back in the late 90s my friends and I used to hang out there all night while tripping on acid. It was somewhat sketchy even back then. I don't know what it'd be like doing that now. We were all from Orange County, about thirty miles away. I recall one such night we stayed on through the morning, buying more acid once the beach woke up and became crowded. At some point we had to drive home, but no one wanted to drive. One of the girls did, reluctantly. We could feel the cleanliness in the air as we left Los Angeles and drove back into Orange County. We were very lucky that she didn't get into an accident. At one point she was driving into a gas station, and instead of pressing on the brakes, she pressed on the accelerator. She just barely managed to gain control of the car as we started yelling at her.
Hollywood Boulevard is not very safe after dark either. I was randomly punched in the nose by a mentally ill homeless person right before sunset at that place. I just stepped away from the crowd and was looking down at my phone trying to call Uber.
are all hotel views like that there? I've only stayed in Santa Monica and about 4 other coastal areas of California. Not Venice Beach. Drove right on by...
3:03 Do we Americans really sound like Borat to you? 😂 I'm not offended at all, I'm just as bad at an English accent, but it made me laugh for a few minutes, so thanks for that!
OMG I love your blog but definitely if you are not a local dont walk at night around the beach, you will for sure feel so out of touch, like the Thriller video from Michael jackson. Dont dress up too much leave all your designer clothes out. But, Venice Beach is a must visit for anyone who goes to California. Venice Beach is Hippie and fun.
i met a girl from LA online and went out to Venice beach to meet her, this was in like 2015 before the homeless rampage but i stayed at the Cadillac and clapped cheeks m8
As someone who spent a lot of time in Venice beach homeless. Y’all need to get inside before dark
The fence is to help keep the sand from blowing up on the bike path and Boardwalk
And stop the creation of dunes

Good point. West L.A got a good social vibe
The eyes are too innocent for sure lol ❤ we can tell lol

I agree. Hollywood and Downtown LA makes this place look like Disneyland.
😂🍗 will go for chill-fil-A next time we visit the 🇺🇸
I agree with that 💯🤣
Just carry your weapons at night. Its the Venice way.
😂 so American!

Good point. Why would they put fences on a beach? They block off nothing.

I was there making and selling jewelry back then. More hippies than vagrants. I would leave before dark though. It's a sad mess now 😮
can you compare it to South Beach Miami? I was there recently and felt really safe walking around even at night, off to LA soon 😊

Nice, been there done the questionable acid
Omg! We want to hear the end of that story! Did you make it to Orange County???
@@Guidotv222 yeah we made it home unscathed.
Nice
😊
Air Venice is the only hotel that allows dogs.

Wow ! We had a similar experience with a crazy homeless man on Hollywood Boulevard! Luckily he didn’t punch me
Venice Beach Florida is perfectly safe to walk at night.

Not all hotels I don’t think

Glad it made you laugh 😂 and even more glad you didn’t take offence! I’d love to hear that English accent 😂
