This seems like an interesting group of candidates so far! I work in the biological sciences, so I think I will have to root for Anna as either the winner or the mole (although in saying that I have probably doomed her to get eliminated early). I really liked the preview letter on the WIDM website; it’s neat to get a little taste of what the candidates will be experiencing/what we have to look forward to. And, I am proud to say that my Dutch lessons are paying off-I read the letter without translating it and I was actually able to understand a lot! I also studied Spanish in college, so I am all set for this season 😎. At first, I was thinking that it would be fun if the images on the tarot cards had a connection to the candidates, and could be used for hidden clues in the episodes. But then I thought about it…and having to be on the lookout for 10 different types of items would be kind of exhausting. I would definitely drive myself crazy keeping track of every single time bread appeared on screen, or every time we heard a bell ring, etc. And I can just hear the producers saying “if you thought it was hilarious watching them search for ducks last year…this year we are giving them TEN DIFFERENT THINGS to look for!!!” Maybe the images on the cards each refer to an assignment that the candidates will participate in. I think I prefer this idea, lol. In any case, I can’t wait for January! Looking forward to the new season of theorizing with everyone 💚
I feel the same about Anna, and by picking her as my most likely winner, I feel that I'm dooming her to an early out!
As for the items... I feel they can't honestly do "clues" based on those. Imagine if the Mole were Babs (mermaid), Justin (cactus) or Tooske (umbrella)! And on the other end of the scale... "bread" is an item. Has any non-finale episode of WIDM not featured bread in some form or another? Candidates gotta eat!
I love the idea of freaking out at every piece of bread we see 😂😂 Reminds me a bit of "De Mol" last season where fans freaked out when there wasn't any toast in an episode and then wondered if Toos would have to leave the game 😂

I'm both excited but inexplicably nervous for this intro. Always excited because it's the start of a new WIDM season and (despite declining quality of several of the last few seasons we've had) I'm always (cautiously) optimistic they'll churn out a good season! And this crop of contestants seem particularly interesting! But I can't help but be nervous at the tarot card introductions. I'd really like to get through one candidate intro/first episode without a million hidden hints being presented to us. But I could be overthinking things as I tend to do.
Is Anna gonna be 'crowned' the winner? Will Babs be swimming with the fishes (like mermaids I guess) and be our first boot? Will Fons' bell be rung as another early boot? Or will Jeroen be 'cut' early instead? Maybe Jip will be waving a white flag with a quick bow out. All's I know is Justin could be in a 'prickly' situation trying to hunt for the mole. Kees will certainly be rubbing his temples in frustration too! Perhaps Rian will

Well this is a fascinating puzzle, isn't it? Who will win and who is the Mole? Mild spoilers for previous WIDM seasons so I'm adding spoiler tags.

First of all, I've been saying it's time to have another run of female Moles for ages now... and they haven't done it! (Man, that one time they had four women in a row seems a long time ago, doesn't it?) With the result that of the last nine Moles we've had in WIDM, seven have been male. It also feels as though the Moles have had quite similar personalities in terms of the way they interact with people, with a lot of "background leader" Moles. While this is probably the best way to do it - S15s Margriet was far more forceful, and she got sussed out quick by a lot of people - I think we can rule out the oddballs and the socially divisive players. With that in mind, here's my thoughts...
Anna (crown) - 37-year-old science journalist - seems like a potential oddball right off the bat. Reminds me a bit of Season 13's winner in the way she presents herself. Obviously she's got to be pretty intelligent to do her job. I think she will either be a first boot through overthinking things, or make it far. Is she the Mole? - She not my top choice.
Babs (mermaid) - first, I love that they gave the mermaid to a younger male! Entrusting the job of the Mole to a 24-year-old is something the Belgian producers would do. Would WIDM do it? I have my doubts. I also question whether Babs will have the fortitude and the focus to make it far. My guess? Early to mid-game boot. He'd be a good surprise Mole but I don't think it's likely.
Fons (bell) - a 37-year-old presenter, reporter and journalist - this one could be a serious Mole pick. That mix of occupations leads me to think he's probably got the smarts and social skills needed to play the Mole. As a player, on paper he's a potential winner. I wonder, will he be a bit overconfident and suffer the dreaded tunnel vision? Or will his strategy carry him through to the end?
Jeroen (scissors) - 47-year-old actor - another possible Mole pick here. Actors are always suspect. Again, I can see him having the experience to pull it off, but will he have the social skills, especially as an older contestant?
Jip (flag) - 30-year-old image columnist - on paper I don't see her as a likely Mole, but it may very well be that the producers expect her to be underestimated. As a player - I don't see her making it to the end, but again, she could surprise me. On paper you wouldn't expect Nikki of the Anniversary season to make it far against her competition, and yet she took the win.
Justin (cactus) - 31-year-old drag queen - I feel that this is a little too left-field for a Mole pick, especially as Justin won't be in drag for most of the season (I presume!) I think he'll be fun to have around but I haven't got a clue how long he'll last.
Kees (temple) - 59-year-old journalist - I just don't see this guy as the Mole unless they're going for another Renee-like pick, just because of his age. Also Renee was an actor. Kees is not. He's probably at the bottom of my Mole list, which means it's probably him. Will he have the focus and determination to beat out the energy of the younger players? Again, I don't see it.
Rian (heart) - 52-year-old actress - again, I just don't see her being chosen as the Mole because I think she's going to have a hard time mixing it up with the under-40s. I hate picking all the oldies out as early boots, but historically that's kinda happened an awful lot on this show.
Rosario (bread) - 26-year-old musician - again, these guys just don't seem to do well on this show, and I don't see Soar doing any different. It'd be awesome if he was the Mole (every male Mole in WIDM so far has been caucasian, so he'd be breaking ground) but based on history I gotta put him as an early out.
Tooske (umbrella) - 49-year-old actress - I feel like she's a more likely older female Mole pick than Rian. She could pull it off. Again, actresses are tricky. If she's not the Mole, she could be the first boot, or make it to the mid-game, but I don't see her as a likely winner.
So my boot order would be, from earliest to winner: Rosario, Rian, Kees, Babs, Tooske, Jip, Justin, Jeroen, Fons, Anna.
And my Mole picks would be, from least to most likely: Babs, Justin, Rian, Kees, Rosario, Anna, Jip, Tooske, Jeroen, Fons.
Final thought... it will be really, really interesting to see how the "cards" play into things. If for example they have a clue each round that ties into a single player's item, but in different ways. For "bread" for example, you could have shots of flour, sandwiches, religious symbols (always popular in WIDM), mead, etc.

Turns out: The majority of moles was between 30 and 34 years (47 %) which only leaves to candidates for this season: Jip and Justin 😉
So for locals, on average, how many of the candidates would you say are celebrities you've actually heard of and for how many would you say the term "celebrity" is a bit generous?
Most of the contestants throughout WIDMs history have been B/C-list celebirties, often they'll get more widely known only AFTER their appearence. While the occasional A-lister will pop up now and again, you won't see a Dutch Beyoncé-type celebrity appearing any time soon. Not to say these B/C-listers AREN'T known though. As for myself I knew 7 out of 10 contestants this edition but that number always fluctuates between editions and depends on how engaged one is with the Dutch media. Although the world celebirty is in the eye of the beholder, I'd say they've all earned it.
