A tutorial on how many ways to play CHEROKEE by the master. I once was with Steve on a gig at the 880 club in Hartford CT and he really was digging the drummer, as a result he played solos so long and intense that most of the time it ended up being sax and drums. He was really on fire that night🎷🎵💜
One of the magical things about Steve during his hard bop days is when you transcribe his solos that seem like he's playing in, you see that he's not. Most of it is totally altered and pretty out there. Yet at times it sounds straight ahead. What a musical prodigy. I miss him.
Absolutely killing!! Steve had such mastery of his horn and of the material over which he played such exciting and creative improvisations. What an ear he had and an incredible ability to take things 'out there' but with real meaning and he always got back inside with such a command.....unbelievable musician. God bless you Steve, you are missed and much admired by us all!
Richie,Drummer George Brown who lived in Paris worked with Steve and he gave me cassettes of their gigs..Great stuff that I gave to Craig Handy..So if u see Craig maybe an inquiry would be appreciated!!
