Easily one of thee best lyricists ever. Even Ra the rugged man, thinks he’s one of the greatest lyricist. That’s coming from one of the better lyricist for 20 years.
Lost my mother in 2016... was really tough because we butted heads a lot and as I got older I accepted all the bad, and we started getting really close, and then she passed when I was in high school. . And when he says “ I threw the duces up to dilla, dapped up tin, and then I hug my momma slow” broke my heart
Rest in Peace J Dilla. Shouts out to Eminem and every other artist out of Detroit, a major city in a major peace of this wonder world we call music. Elzhi: Showing us the evolution of a true tribute song, and the home grown lyrical style.
This was, and still my favorite track from the orignal Illmatic. This and the whole album is the best homage to anything in hip-hop I've ever listened to.
Imagine being Elzhi, knowing and hearing how talented that you are, but yet there are artists who are embarrassingly bad have hundreds of millions of views and streams. What a truly fucked up world we live in.
It’s not ab talent it’s ab the influence music has on ur listeners and so far people love the mumble rapping rage rap artist that have a huge influence on the game rn
I first heard this record about six years ago and to this day I'm not sure which is more pure; the video or the song. This was a masterpiece. Beautiful video/footage.
I feel the lyric where he says "and then I hugged my momma slow". My mother passed away september 2019 and then thats why I understand that when it comes to memory lane sometimes it feels wrong going. Elzhi mentioned that his mother had cemo and her hair was or used to be long flowing. my mother was diagnosed with COPD and she passed away from suffering so much and I miss her and this track stirs up those memories because we used to do so much together and i used to have this track on my phone when we used to travel together.
Freaking addicted. This song has an amazing flow and the lyricist is great, Thanks Elzhi, you just made my parents say for the first time in their lives that thei actually like hip-hop. And I took 18 years to do it.
i was theirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr im looking at this video and reminse like a mug with almost tears in my eyessssssss. proof,5 ela,em,d12,slum,phat cat, dj head, royce 5,9,all mighty dred, buzz,fuzz,jdilla,3rd kind, tone,dj house shoes and dj dez at one time they was fam I was there so i know. dang iiiiiiiiiii miss da hiphop shop thanks maurice malone
Elzhi's 1 of the best ever!!! You can't name 10 better lyricists!! Only El can do justice to an Illmatic remix album! This live jazz production is so smooth!!
@@407zero2 Kdot is not doper than Elzhi in any way shape or form lol and I love Kdot, I don’t think you can put him in the same league as the legends who came before him, but you can for Elzhi, I’d even say Elzhi>>Jay, but I’m not a big Jay fan, but yes 3K, Nas and DOOM might be my top 3
@@docm4544 Nah man listen to yo boys latest stuff, its lackin and he aint coming like L or Lupe or Kanye or even J Cole. You big time sleep. Its cool to have personal favorites but the skill and focus difference is too steep. I haven't listen to jay but what i do know say yo claim is ridiculous hes elite and this guy just isn't, like he got steez n shit but i bet you cant even name 9 tracks of his that blew yo mind. All the names I mentioned I could name at least that. And you severely lackin on kdots top tier lyrics and vocals btw. Thats a top 10 rapper right there. His album this year could bring eem up to top 5.
@@407zero2 Lol bro, Ye is nowhere near Elzhi, same with Cole, not even the same league. I’ve been following Kdot since the mixtape days, I love Kdot, but he’s nit even top TDE member to me, that’s Soul and Zay’s my personal fav, Elzhi has been around since Slum Village days, check out his solo albums, the 1 with Khrysis and the 1 before and not to mention The Preface, his wordplay and metaphors and storytelling is top tier bro
R.I.P Big D'Tanyum aka He. Great Writer, Lyricist and Singer. Loved 💕 Always and Forever. Floss Mode for Life! A Real One. R.i.P Momma...I Miss You My❤️.
The 2nd coming of Nas. I haven't heard a finer like-for-like tribute/cover than this right here (and the overall project Elmatic). Sounds just like him - and "Self Made" from his Jericho Jackson project sounds exactly like something Nas would rhyme on/choose as a beat.
This is tha sickest hip hop track ive heard in a while......bringin back the realness.....no skinny jeans, no fake lyrics, jus a story and a REAL rapper! Respect to all tha ppl who know real hip hop.....
Damn I remember buying this album in grade 11 and listening to it constantly. My house caught fire and my iPod got burnt in the process and I lost the album and forgot about it. 2 days ago I saw elzhis name again and I came right to this album. Godamn memories.
Anyone else get goosebumps? These lyrics pierce the heart.
Yes, Elzhi is one of the best fo sho man. I was listening again to this like GOD DAMN
Brought tears to my eyes...I can’t even lie.

@@ello7034 I think most GE lyricists do. He's one of the best ever. And gotta be top 2 for post 2k rappers.
Lupe
Elzhi
Steez
The rest.
Especially at the hug my momma slow line

that part
Yep I have a delima. As I'm extending my mom's life...but drama surrounds.
Same but since 89
Be strong for her.
❤
“And then i hug my mama slow.... yo” this shit hits home. Id do anything to hug my mama slow right now. RIP 💚
This song is very emotional. He put his heart on this track! Elzhi is the dopest in the game!
Yeah..especially about the Jay Dee, Baatin, Proof.
Behind lupe fiasco
word, especially when he rapped about his moms being sick and eventually passing away
This is real hip-hop. R.I.P Bugz R.I.P Proof R.I.P J Dilla
All day baby !!!
R.I.P. Baatin
It still baffles me that this doesn't have more views. This track is a masterpiece.
Sometimes hip-hop can be so personal....it just not for everyone. Including other hip-hop fans. But you're definitely right.
that "Then i Hugged my mama slow" line always makes me tear up
Factz
xBastardx Yeah I teared up too. It's too deep.
xBastardx Definitely
Every time
Its def the most hard hitting line without a metaphor or punchline. Just realness

This is better than remixing an album
I love how he put his version to it while using the same beats and samples.
I've had enough of these over-stylized MC's. Thank you Elzhi for bringing it back.
Man, i hope we can keep you for more years to come L, you're more than a legend, even if some don't see it.
detroits mad underlooked in this rap shit, swear the whole midwest is slept on forreal
I am the first face you see in this joint. MUDD HOLLE and Swifty McVay what a day!
"I chucked the deuce to Dilla, then I hugged my momma slow." That was heavy
Man, that line hits so deep!! Everytime it gets me!!
yo just close your eyes and picture what the dude is saying.. damn
"I threw the dueces up to Dilla, dap up Tin. And then I hug my momma slow.".... I can't. It's too much.
THE REAL ONES STILL BUMPING THIS SHIT IN 2022!!!!
much respect for Elzhi. hes paying respect to the greatest hip hop album
Thumbs up if you agree that this is easily one of the best songs of 2011... So much meaning in his words.

"This'll be the 12th time I lose my virginity!" Haha love this line
Straight fire. Best remake of a song I've heard in a while

This song is kind of sad but beautiful at the same time
Lyrical genius
This is one of the greatest albums in a very long time. Still hearing new things all these years later. Classic
Hey this is an album that’s arguably as good if not better called The Black Rosary Certificate by Umang 💎
One of the few songs that gives me chills the whole time. Since 13'
still less than 500k? smh this gem is more slept on than beds fam
Real talk
Tony Orozco just remembered this song and still sad thats he heavily slept on and under rated

Like i said elzhi is the goat

This is one of the best songs I've heard in a while.
Great tribute for Nas, my favorite MC ever. Thanx for that. Peace from Marseille, France.

This video is gold
You love hip hop when you're able to relate to the artist
How can anyone dislike this song???C'mon people this is true hip-hop.
Hip Hop is coming back thank God.
Only this guy can flip it without disrespecting Nas' flawless 5-mic album, especially since he was part of Slum Village. It's fucking fire.
GREAT FEELINGS very emotional song back in the days....
Masterpiece. incredible writing
Wonder if Nas has peeped this. Imitation is THEE highest form of flattery. Elzhi is an A1 lyricist in his own right.
Gives me chills with the first line💘
