That is the Saw Guide. The better saws out there come with a saw guide. However most saws have them available, but you'll need to order it. It is similar to the rip fence on a table saw... well I guess that's exactly what it is. It is basically a rip fence for a skill saw.

What was the metal bracket you had to remove to make the cut? I did not see you reattach it or use it in any way.
That was an alignment bracket to help keep the bottom of the bifold doors in alignment.
I reinstalled it after the cut.
