    Your gonna come back better than ever. Sparky you think you would ever do a sub panel for a detached building tutorial?

    • @SparkyChannel
      @SparkyChannel  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks so much! Onward and upward! No plans for a sub panel right now but I'm going to have to install a main panel sometime in the future. The city will be coming through my area and taking out overhead lines and installing underground lines so the main panel will have to be changed out. Have a great Sunday!

    Buying one one of these to replace the piece of crap yellow one that I got from Amazon for $19. Lasted 6 years so I guess I got my money's worth. I mostly use it for checking tire, bearing and drive line temps while towing my RV on regular walk arounds. I once ignored the slight temp increase on one trailer tire since I was only a few miles from home on an eight state trip. Bam, $3,200 worth of damages from a shredded blowout. Mostly covered by insurance but two months without my camper sucked!

    Looks like a good value. Also makes a nice cat toy. The pouch adds some value, many IR thermometers especially popular priced ones don' t come with case.

    • @SparkyChannel
      @SparkyChannel  Před 3 lety

      I like it because it's easy to aim the laser thru the vents in AC so you're measuring the temp of the air, not the metal. It's a good entry level digital thermometer at a good price. Thanks Gary!

    What do you find are your primary uses with this Infrared Thermometer? Do they also have a specific use in the field?

    • @SparkyChannel
      @SparkyChannel  Před 3 lety

      I would say the primary use is to test the temperature of air conditioners and heating elements. Yes, they definitely have field uses.

    Will this measure snow surface temp? Seems accurate, did it think they would measure liquid temp? Thanks that's the one I was looking at.

    I don't think I've ever seen an IR thermometer without a targeting laser.

      @garydudgeon Před 3 lety

      I think some of the IR thermometers that are being used to check people's temperature do not come with the familiar red pointer. There are a lot employers and businesses checking temps at the door with relatively inexpensive non targeting thermometers.

      @@garydudgeon I guess that's the difference between one used for medical purpose and one used for HVAC, etc.

      Not for human use ! Its not meant for that. That would mean exposure to laser light, and the device is not calibrated for humans. (Back during Rona times, I looked into these as well and those were the reasons your not supposed to use them for human beans)

    The Infrared thermometer picks up the heat of objects, so it doesn't pick up air temperature. This takes me to the next point, emissivity.
    On most contactless temperature readers you may have noticed the emissivity, or EMS, setting. This represents the reflective quality of the object being scanned. Scanning a flat black surface will give a slightly different reading the a slightly glossy white surface, even though a contact temperature measurement will show the same temperature. This is due to the reflection of the Infrared beam used to measure the temperature.
    To make things more complicated it's difficult to scan the actual temperature of water or glass because it is clear.
    As far as reading the temp of an HVAC vent, an Infrared contactless reading isn't accurate and shouldn't be used if a precise measurement is required, but an actual psychometric air temp should be taken with the proper meter. That being said, the contactless Infrared reading has its place to get a 'ballpark' reading at the vent, but a more accurate reading can be obtained by focusing on the grill of the vent that has had enough time to reach the temperature of the air coming out.
    By the way, emissivity is generally by default set at 0.95. This is a general starting place for most measurements. There are online resources that can be found to show what you should set the EMS setting at to measure different types of surfaces.
    Hopefully this helps clear some of the common misconceptions around these devises.
    If anyone finds anything in my explanation askew, please don't hesitate to state the correction.
    One last thing, this meter can be used to scan a breaker panel for hot breakers to indicate a potential bad breaker, overload condition, or loose lug. Although, using an Infrared camera will give you a better picture of what you are looking at.

    Yes I'm late to the party so to speak but if you are in doubt of whatever mechanism you buy regarding a laser thermometer, first thing in the morning go to your home thermostat with no air on at all and see what it is reading, do you trust what is reading, doesn't matter. Point your laser thermometer at and around your thermostat on the wall and you should read at or exactly what the thermostat is reading, mine did!!
