- Last week, I finally flew with ZIPAIR to try out their Boeing 787-8 in Business Class from Tokyo Narita to Singapore. I wanted to try ZIPAIR Business Class for last 2 years, but it was not possible due to Japan’s strict border restrictions. So I was very excited to try the airline!
ZIPAIR is Japan Airlines’ wholly owned low cost carrier. The airline's slogan is “New Basic Airline". They sells its Full-flat Business Class seat relatively cheaply, but you should pay extra for everything else including meals, amenities, and even bags if you choose. ZIPAIR doesn’t also provide an exclusive check-in counter service, and the priority boarding for Business Class passengers. I think ZIPAIR is the World’s Most Basic Business Class. ZIPAIR is an airline that truly unbundles its products! But, amazingly, at least the Wi-Fi is free on board.
The ZIPAIR's Business Class seat with individual aisle access was excellent. I think perhaps the best Business Class seating among Low-cost carriers. The cabin crew were pretty awesome, very caring and attentive. I really enjoyed the flight. Check out the Vlog! :)

지난주 드디어 일본의 최신 항공사, 집에어(ZIPAIR) 비즈니스 클래스에 탑승했습니다! 도쿄 나리타공항에서 싱가포르 창이공항까지 7시간 35분을 함께 했네요.
집에어는 일본항공(JAL)이 만든 저비용항공사로, 보잉 787-8을 사용합니다. "가장 기본적인 항공사"라는 슬로건 답게, 비즈니스석에서도 모든 서비스는 옵션이지만 좌석은 그 어떤 저비용 항공사보다 훌륭했습니다.
모든 비즈니스석에서 통로 접근이 자유로운 좌석으로, 개인 모니터만 없을 뿐 사실상 풀서비스항공사의 좌석이었습니다. 오히려, 일부 풀서비스항공사의 좌석보다 좋다고 느껴질 만큼 좌석이 아주 편하고 좋았습니다. 개인 모니터는 없지만, 기내 와이파이를 무료로 제공하기에, 개인 스마트폰, 태블릿 기기를 이용하면 이 부분도 전혀 문제 되지 않았네요.
비즈니스석에 모든 서비스를 옵션으로 제공하는 대신 비용을 합리적인 가격대로 낮춘 집에어의 미래가 더욱 기대됩니다.

This would never work in the U.S. market. The keyword you mentioned is "civilized." And we know that Americans in general are NOT civilized. We have a stronger degree of ENTITLEMENT mentality.
American airflight companies only want to make money, not service the ppl.

Another very nice report, short and to the point. I have to say I find Zipair's business model VERY interesting. The lie-flat seat is indeed for me the biggest draw in business class, being able to take a nice nap and arrive refreshed. So unbundling everything makes a lot of sense. If it means saving some money I'm ok with not pounding bottles of champagne during the flight. It also removes the pressure of feeling that if you don't, you are missing out, as the price has already been factored in.
Thank you very much, Tomas. I think so. I totally agree with you. Sometimes I just slept during the whole flight, I didn't need any champagne or fancy food on the flight. So I think the ZIPAIR's business class is a very good price for some red-eye flight. I'll definitely consider flying with them.
Was on the fence about flying business with them from LA to Tokyo... but it looks like a really comfortable experience! Honestly don't mind having to pay for all the extras since its still cheaper than standard business class seats ^^ Great video!
The seat is better than lots of full fare business class products . If you just want a seat that gives you the need for sleep this is it !

I just flew Zipair and will be traveling back on it to Japan in a couple of days. I was originally scheduled to travel with United, but they have the bad habit of making too many airport, plane, and time changes to my well thought-out itinerary, so I decided to canceled with them and reserved with Zipair. I make this trip 4x a year and plan to stay with Zipair. They definitely have a good business plan.
This is amazing! Majority of the time when I flight I almost literally just either sleep or work or play offline games in my laptop. I paid little to no attention to inflight entertainment because Im easy to fall asleep or I have my own laptop to work or entertain myself. I also sometimes don’t eat much rather than little snacks. I basically paid a good amount for things that I barely use at all!This is perfect for my case! All I need is a good seat so I can stretch my leg and lay my back comfortably. Definitely will check this out whenever I travel to Asia
Other than paying for food and amenities I wouldn't known it was a low cost because the service was very very good and the lay flat seats and cleanliness puts them in the same category if not higher than lots of other full service carriers. Thanks for another great video

Great. Love to try Zipair someday. Less expensive than normal carrier but you get exceptional service as in full fare airlines. JAL brand is quality guaranteed, as always.

This is the best i have ever seen for low cost carrier !!! Cheers for Zip Air . Hopefully one day they fly to Jakarta & Denpasar. Compare with Scoot , Scoot So So So Terrible! Scoot economy class seat , the service button is right behind our leg / hand so it will accidentally mistaken the bell . Zip air economy class the service call button is right in front of our seat so it easy to press it. Thumb up 👍

Great trip report. I would love to give this low cost airlines a try. The seats are similar to those premium airlines' standard business class such as Cathay, Thai, China Airlines and etc. Great vlog. I wish I can fly on this airline in the near future.

Nice video. Love the 180 degree flat seats. Bring some snacks from home, a laptop with movies on a USB and I`m set for 6~8 hrs.
Wow lcc and basically the same service and hard product as most full service carriers, except for no ife and extras must be bought. But the IFE problem is resolved with free Wi-Fi. I would really love to fly with them soon when I’m visiting family in Japan

Thanks for the nice video. ZipAir recently started service from Narita to San Jose, CA. Service will be expanded to 5 days a week starting in January. The fare are so much cheaper than regular carriers, I plan on trying them in March.

I just realised that Zip Air flies between Korea and Japan too. I might give them a try instead of Korean Air,Asiana , JAL, ANA etc.
It looks fantastic for 7 hours! Shame about the lack of champagne but at that price, you cannot complain. I don't think I would like to try a 16-hour like that - in business class.
I booked the 1k seat, so exited to fly zip air. p.s. the price was around a full service economy class for (Thai & ANA) and a lot cheaper than JAL eco

In the age of Netflix and youtube, I think it's great they offer free wifi and cut the cost of TVs. I already don't use the on-seat TV when I watch downloaded content on my Ipad.

I really would have liked to see a Standard seat since that's how most people will be flying, but overall the experience seems to be about what I would expect for a budget airline, except with Japan's top-quality customer service.
Looks great for the price! I am worried that the lie-flat might not accommodate some taller people after seeing how close you were to the top. Would you say it will accommodate people up to 6 feet tall at least?

Interesting to see basically an economy meal served in business class for a low-cost airline. ZIPAIR started to fly out of the US and I have heard very negative things about up-charges for everything. Carry-On luggage is weighed and Checked Luggage is charged by weight. The only "free" thing was the internet, but it wasn't working for my friends that tried. At their current price, it's only marginally lower than flying full-service airline if you factor in all the paid items for a bare minimum essentials for a long haul. They even have a paid annual membership with the benefit of "discount on checked luggage"... I think the European low-cost airline fly into the US is more reasonable.

If they cancel a flight, ZipAir will not book you on another airline. They tell you to come back tomorrow and try standby.

Apart from no PTV, the refit of the aircraft seems better than those 788 still with JAL. A good option if availble!

국내 에어프레미아랑 비슷한 개념인데 서로 장단점이 있네요
좌석은 집에어가 월등한거 같고 기본 제공서비스는 에어프레미아가 더 나아보이고(기내식 술 어매니티 무료)
에어프레미아는 와이파이 유료인데 집은 무료이고
하긴 에어프레미아는 비지니스가 아닌 프리미엄 이코노미라고 부르니까 완전 같다고 보긴 어렵긴 하겠네요 ㅎㅎ

How did the restrooms look?
Hi I booked a flight and chose the 23kg Baggage option. For mine, it didn’t specify if it’s hand-carry/check-in baggage. May i know does it mean that the total weight of all baggage (irregardless hand-carry or check-in) can be up to 23kg? Also, is there a limit to the number of luggage that i can bring even if i don’t exceed the weight limit? Thanks a lot and look forward to ur reply 😊
I did a check on baggage to and you can add extra bags i did 2 extra at 32 kg plus the 23kg bag from Los Angeles to Tokyo and it was only $68.00 for each bag one way

Why did they need to check your boarding pass again when you ordered the food?
Thank you for watching. Sometimes some passengers move to other empty seats during flight. So the ZIPAIR cabin crew want to give the pre-ordered meals correctly to someone who pre-ordered that online.

Frankly spoken, if you add all the ameneties, included with regular carriers, you don't pay much more than with so-called low cost carriers. If you add checked-in luggage, all meals, drinks, amenity kit, lounge access, etc., you MAY save just a few bucks, but not a fortune.
Not to mention the missing IFE.
If someone is happy to spend hours without almost anything aboard an aircraft, you might be happy with low cost carriers.

영상 잘 봐주셔서 감사합니다. 한일 노선의 경우, 워낙 짧은 노선이고 다양한 선택지가 있어서 경쟁력이 떨어질 수도 있지만, 집에어의 핵심 노선들이 있는 중거리, 장거리 노선에서는 경쟁력이 충분히 있다고 생각되었습니다. 현재 집에어는 로스앤젤레스, 호놀룰루 등의 장거리를 취항 중이며, 산호세도 곧 취항 예정입니다. :)

영상 봐주시고 댓글 남겨주셔서 감사합니다. 와이파이도 무료이고, 기내 와이파이로 IFE를 제공하고 있어서 좋았습니다. 집에어는 모니터를 모든 좌석에서 제거하여, 기내 전체 무게를 줄였다고 합니다. 그로 인해 연료비용과 모니터 설비 운영 비용을 줄이는 대신, 더 합리적인 가격으로 티켓을 제공할 수 있다고 하네요. 모니터가 있을 경우 그와 관련된 설비까지 모두 설치해야 해서, 모든 좌석에 설치 시 무게를 비교하면 무게가 꽤 더 나간다고 합니다.
