Newsted is Metallica's battery.
Jason Newsted was so important to the Megaforce Metallica is. Such a pity creative differences and egos got in the way of the band's foundations. Guess we just have to accept Robert Trujillo is there. Jason will always be missed. I grew up with Jason on bass and the black album been released. Metallica are in my heart, mind and soul. They defy the odds so many bands have fallen down to the wasteland.

Ikr, there are bands that have multiple members playing the same instrument. Iron Maiden has three lead guitarists, Grateful Dead had two drummers, you couldn't fucking count how many bands have multiple vocalists, Metallica could work with two bass players. Especially considering how badass they sound that way.

@@JustAPairofLegs Actually, Dave probably had rehearsed the original album recording, because he starts playing that part, but stops quickly because the Metallica boys did not go into that section.

Trujillo is such a talented bass player with great, thick sound the size of a house. Jason is just pure and raw fucking aggression, shoving the song down your throat and I'm fucking loving it. Huge respect for both guys.

There's no denying the fact that rob is a kick as bassist, I have much love for him but Jason just fits the bill so much better. He plays with them for one night and they sound better than they have in a decade. He has what they've been missing.
There's so much more Metallica energy and aggressiveness when Jason's with them. It's so sad but amazing

Up until that point, James had do his own "battery" since Robert joined the band. I bet he was stoked when he heard Jason barking "BA-TOR-RAY". You see James stopped saying after the first time.

Metallica with Newsted is the real Metallica. The Metallica I fell in love with over 27 years ago. They are not the same band without him. Rob is alright but I don't really care what they do anymore since 2001. Now they are more of a corporate act than a Metal band. It's sad but true.

i grew up with Jason as the Metallica bassist. Since Cliff (RIP) cant be there, Jason SHOULD be. His playing style fits Metallica better in my opinion.

I will listen to Skelitonwitch, the new Carcass and be happy. Also what I meant by corporate act is about them letting their management controlling them and having them do stupid shit like that awful rendition of One with Ling Ling. Of course they do it for the fucking money what would they be doing it for a pat on the back. They haven't had a good album in 23 years!! anything after The Black Album is shit. The reason why were once the greatest band in the world. they played with precision and speed. Now a shell of themselves. Old and sloppy doesn't cut it when you are up to Metallica standards. Those standards are long gone.

Goddamn, I really miss Jason. Of all their bassists, he definitely had the best vocals - by a long shot. I really like the feel I get from Rob, as well, but he's not nearly as good of a singer. Although he has gotten better over the years. Be that as it may, it took him many years to get this good, but it only took Jason one or two years.
It'd be awesome if Jason re-joined the band, while Rob was still playing. Either that, or Jason would be the only bassist in Metallica.

You can't compare Cliff to Jason, or Robert. Cliff died at 24. Robert is 50, Jason is 52. Cliff started playing bass around 13 years old. That's 11 years of bass playing. Jason, and Rob have had decades to become what they are. Cliff was little more than a kid when he died. Who knows how good he would be now. The only way to compare is how good were they at 24? A quarter century more experience is... A LOT.
