Jason Newsted was so important to the Megaforce Metallica is. Such a pity creative differences and egos got in the way of the band's foundations. Guess we just have to accept Robert Trujillo is there. Jason will always be missed. I grew up with Jason on bass and the black album been released. Metallica are in my heart, mind and soul. They defy the odds so many bands have fallen down to the wasteland.
Ikr, there are bands that have multiple members playing the same instrument. Iron Maiden has three lead guitarists, Grateful Dead had two drummers, you couldn't fucking count how many bands have multiple vocalists, Metallica could work with two bass players. Especially considering how badass they sound that way.
@@JustAPairofLegs Actually, Dave probably had rehearsed the original album recording, because he starts playing that part, but stops quickly because the Metallica boys did not go into that section.
The vibe is SO MUCH better with Jason on stage with them... The proof is right here ladies and gentlemen!! Goddamn, I miss Jason!! Metallica was heavier with him. There is NO denying that fact.

Trujillo is such a talented bass player with great, thick sound the size of a house. Jason is just pure and raw fucking aggression, shoving the song down your throat and I'm fucking loving it. Huge respect for both guys.
Imagine if metallica called back Jason and we had a new setup where rob is the lead bassist and Jason is the rhythm bassist and backing vocals . just like a guitar setup. imagine a bass off during their live shows. it would be beautiful to witness
There's no denying the fact that rob is a kick as bassist, I have much love for him but Jason just fits the bill so much better. He plays with them for one night and they sound better than they have in a decade. He has what they've been missing.
I agree. james vocals from the black album on..has irritated me...no aggression, you wouldnt ever imagine they were once a thrash band with the way he sings now...i know age is a factor.
Up until that point, James had do his own "battery" since Robert joined the band. I bet he was stoked when he heard Jason barking "BA-TOR-RAY". You see James stopped saying after the first time.
4:19 Probably the coolest Rob moment ever!!! Kinda ruined by James doing the wicked witch laugh and Kirk dropping his pick and hitting the wrong chord. haha. :)
Look at Kirk during this performance. He can't fucking hide it. He misses Jason SO much. If he had had the at the right time then Jason never would have left. Unfortunately, Kirk still has no balls. He just does whatever James and Lars say.
Wow, there is a significant difference between this performance and other performances of Battery without Jason. Jason makes James sing better and Lars actually play like a drum player
Metallica with Newsted is the real Metallica. The Metallica I fell in love with over 27 years ago. They are not the same band without him. Rob is alright but I don't really care what they do anymore since 2001. Now they are more of a corporate act than a Metal band. It's sad but true.
Danimal300zx i grew up with Jason as the Metallica bassist. Since Cliff (RIP) cant be there, Jason SHOULD be. His playing style fits Metallica better in my opinion.
Fernando Idalgo Here is the thing, Metallica they are also rans or has been's. I don't really care what they do or how many shitty drum fills Lars can not do. I will listen to Skelitonwitch, the new Carcass and be happy. Also what I meant by corporate act is about them letting their management controlling them and having them do stupid shit like that awful rendition of One with Ling Ling. Of course they do it for the fucking money what would they be doing it for a pat on the back. They haven't had a good album in 23 years!! anything after The Black Album is shit. The reason why were once the greatest band in the world. they played with precision and speed. Now a shell of themselves. Old and sloppy doesn't cut it when you are up to Metallica standards. Those standards are long gone.
Jason or Rob have nothing to do with what Metallica have become. Do you think they would still sound like they were in there 20's/30's if Jason was still in the band?
Goddamn, I really miss Jason. Of all their bassists, he definitely had the best vocals - by a long shot. I really like the feel I get from Rob, as well, but he's not nearly as good of a singer. Although he has gotten better over the years. Be that as it may, it took him many years to get this good, but it only took Jason one or two years. It'd be awesome if Jason re-joined the band, while Rob was still playing. Either that, or Jason would be the only bassist in Metallica.
I've been playing guitar for 16 years and I still don't understand how James can sing and play this at the same time. The syncopation of the mind that is required is crazy
I love Rob and the new cd, but dammit Jason was the shit! Those backing vocals. So much more energy. And if you all notice, the crowd is the loudest with Newsted up there.
Seeing jason enjoy this in that level, imagine the feeling when decide to left the band for the right reasons,a true warrior that choose the right instead of passion.
I fucking love Jason. He's one of my idols as a bassplayer. But you gotta give Rob credit for keeping Metallica together. I prefer Jason over any other bassplayer, but Rob kept the band together. Probably because he seems chill as fuck.
That was tight!! Like good old Metallica! nothing wrong with so called "new" metallica, its still the same old... but oh Jason... oh!! Jesus Christ dude, you are something.
omg, this is one of their best, you can tell they love playing together. They sound so great together. Jason needs to come back. sorry Robert your a nice dude but Jason is Metallica fam 💯.
Wow, they actually played the middle section live for once, instead of the usual stupid "AWWWW YUUUU ALIVEEEE" nonsense. And Kirk pretty much nailed the solo. Bravo!
You can't compare Cliff to Jason, or Robert. Cliff died at 24. Robert is 50, Jason is 52. Cliff started playing bass around 13 years old. That's 11 years of bass playing. It sounds awesome plus bass is super clear from the bass war
Dude, it'd even be great for a new album, imagine a song where Jason & Rob have a clean bass intro duo style harmonic crazy shit going on!
They should add Jason and add Lombardo for Lars 🤣
Yeah..exactly I think it would give more punch
All of a sudden it's 1989... except for James' vocals. Jason is a beast!
Lukeblueslover and lars' drumming

There's so much more Metallica energy and aggressiveness when Jason's with them. It's so sad but amazing
I didn't know Seth Rogan was a bad motherfucker on bass.

LeBron Irving I see what you did there.
