I am so devasted, I feel like XL is the one that loves her the most of the three suitors, and yet they kill him off in the book. He dies tormented by thousands of vicious soldiers and his body dissolves into the ground all alone, no one by his side. But that is not the worst part, the worst part is that the female lead, upon hearing of his death, solidifies her opinion that XL never loved her! How could she be so blind to his obsessive love for her? XL always took her on the most interesting and fascinating dates, she was the most sexually attracted to him, he exchanged his one heart for her to live countless times, he taught her how to protect herself (archery because she had weak spirit power), his gifts were always from the knowledge of what she wanted or lacked in her life, so personal and useful. He listened to her every word no matter how much she repeated the same sob story, he listened and memorized and believed everything she said. He made the moon interesting again after she had seen it for over 400 years.... how could she say he didn't love her? For starters she knew he was a demon and could kill her, but he never did. She knew of the sacrifice he made to save her life after she was assassinated, she knew of the sacrifice he made when he took on the love bug for her, she knew how he could have killed her that night on the white horse with his sister....it wasn't like she didn't know of his intensity towards her, the helpless way he needed and enjoyed her blood...and in the end she yells at him, screaming and disrespecting him because" he never loved me, he was always just calculating and manipulative". I was so hurt by her words, it really left a bad taste in my mouth, like why even show us XL's story line if it would all be for nothing? Poor thing, he dies in a battle we never see, he dies alone without her and when she finds out about his death, she curses him out. XL deserved so much better, although he was a demon (so rough, so rude, so mean...), with all of his defects he was more courageous and way too good for her. It's not even the fact that he dies that upsets me, it's the fact that he dies alone, and she hates him for dying alone. Tushan Jin deserves to be with her, they deserve each other because they were both basic, they deserve their boring and predictable life together.
I can understand your anger and devastation that's how I felt exactly feel after finishing the book! My heart broke when he died alone and he has no one and those soldiers wanted to stab his dead body but it was already a matter of time for him in the battlefield, he was dying the moment he revived her. Honestly, XL actually did everything he could for her not to end with him which is very heartbreaking knowing he suffered all throughout without her knowing. I wished she could have seen through his lies and the fact that he has always, always been there for her even at the expense of his pain, he comforts her the most since the day he met her, and yes XL listens to her and memorized everything she said HAHA. Yet XL also knew what she needed the most. T.T XL knew the story of her parents all the reason more he pushed her away. It may look like XY is the one who chases him but in truth he is just always there, waiting.
He really loves her the most enough to decide what's best for her and his love is nothing but crystalized clear ocean, deep and ever unwavering. T.T

It's nice to know there's someone else who appreciated XL's character as much as I did. Furthermore, you were right about him pushing her away, he did.
All in all, the storyline of the entire cdrama and book was excellent, I enjoyed it thoroughly.
@kang0528 I would have chosen him a million times over. Because a life with him would never be boring, he would always keep his woman excited, pampered, safe, provided for, challenged, entertained, surprised, and yes oh yes $exually satisfied...he's so hot, like seriously.
@@DivineDiamond Thank you his love is really great, he has a great understanding in life and death. Yes, he deserved much and more. I really appreciate his character better than the most books I've read and K-dramas I've watched. I commend the author for writing him uniquely but a stand out. Honestly, there's a lot of us who loves him and appreciates him. You just have to find them in the right platforms. He is so good that I somehow realized XY is unworthy of his love. The brat became selfish.
