    Hi man!
    Thanks for the 3 tutorials!
    I was about to start a diy shit and start burning myself with but you prevented all of this. I get I need more preparation and more safety than what I've thought.
    I'll stick to fire for now but definitely will rewatch part 1 for your how to do the cage, felt more sturdy design!

    Was wondering how do you ignite the wood shavings in the cages. Soak in white gas and light same as with the poi or . . . ?

    never thought of smolding wood for charcoal dust, nice idea!
    we get charcoal dust from smashing charcoal with hammer again and again, with newspaper covered.
    not sure if they have different effect or not
    must try it someday.

    nice - this is something i simply had not thought about, had you thought about making removable cages so that you could have several sets pre-made? maybe making pots with a central core that slips over the shaft of your fire staff shaft. also how do you light it? dipped in paraffin like any other staff?

    • @TamedFire
      @TamedFire  Před 10 lety +1

      I just squeeze some lighter fluid on them to light. I have seen many designs for cages and this design in my opinion is the best. Reasons why are weight......and weight. Cages break down regardless of how strong they are with time and usage.

    Have you tried mixing the charcoal with stuff that changes the colour of fire? I know they are meant for fire and you are using charcoal but do you think it would have any effect?

    • @TamedFire
      @TamedFire  Před 10 lety

      I don't like messing with colored flame. It's too dim. I prefer dragons dust more than any. Mostly because of the weight. I will talk about it in the update videos releasing soon.

    • @autumnphyre
      @autumnphyre Před 10 lety

      excellent ok! Look forward to the update!
      Yeah I've stayed away from the coloured flame because it supposedly ruins the wicks.
      There's a video of you spinning at EJC in 2012 (which is how I first found your channel! I can link you if you don't know the one I mean.) What combination/ratio of devils popcorn to dragons dust did you use there as its spectacular!? (from the videos looks more in favour of devils popcorn?)

    What type of metal is the staff? I read your comment that aluminum will melt. I made a staff from steel before, it was very heavy and extremely hot if touched anywhere but the center. Would you recommend this design for use with steel wool? If so, would aluminum be ok then? Or it'd still melt? Thanks for sharing your knowledge! Much gratitude for taking it to a whole 'nother level and supporting others to go there too. Love n Fire 💞🔥M

    What type of staff do you use for the charcoal. I know it needs to be metal but all the ones ive seen are too heavy or not usable?

  • @Codyjb818
    @Codyjb818 Před 8 lety

    What is this metal drum/fire pit that you use to cook the paint can & shavings in? How important is it to have the paint can surrounded by fire/coals?... I have a firepit but it doesn't have tall walls on the sides to enclose it so i'm wondering if it would still turn the shavings to charcoal effectively

    • @TamedFire
      @TamedFire  Před 8 lety +1

      +Codyjb818 It's an old dryer bin. The base was welded on to make it into a standing pit. You don't need to have one. Just push the coals up against the sides of the can and you shouldn't have any problems. A pit will get the can plenty hot enough to turn the shavings into charcoal. You can always dig a hole in the ground to get the same effect.

    How do you light it once its in the cage? Just a lighter or do you soak the whole thing in fuel?

    • @TamedFire
      @TamedFire  Před 6 lety

      I use lighter fluid. Just enough to light them for about 5 minutes to warm them up. You want enough to where they are still on fire when you start though. Or you can just light them and go. I have found the effect to be more reactive when you let them heat up for a bit though. Good luck!

    Is there any website that sells charcoal staffs or is it always a DIY job ?
    I have a fire staff, could I make the cages as an extension to the staff or would the charcoal destroy the Kevlar wicks ?
    Thanks

    • @TamedFire
      @TamedFire  Před 8 lety

      +F Boylan I'll sell you one. It's more cost effective to build it yourself though. They take time to make.

    • @fritzbox4864
      @fritzbox4864 Před 8 lety

      +F Boylan Please be careful...Charcoal and fresh air is what a smith uses to melt steel. Your kevlar wicks will absolutely be over. I´ve seen people using aluminium for their staff-it took a few seconds to see the cages flying around. Aluminium melts at about 600°C. Iron/Steel needs a higher temperature to melt-but it is possible to melt it just with charcoal and air.

    what is the difference between charcoal, dragons dust and devil's popcorn?

    • @TamedFire
      @TamedFire  Před 9 lety +1

      Charcoal can be dragons dust or devils popcorn and is just a generalized term such as coal is. Coal and charcoal vary slightly in their literal definitions. Dragons dust is what I have called the pine shavings or any flake blend of charcoal. Devils popcorn is the name I have given sparkly blends that are really reactive whether agitated or spun around due to pockets of trapped gas.
