Bastien Salabanzi: The Lost Part

- It's hard to imagine footage like this getting "lost", but things happen. When Ewan Bowman told us he was working on a never-before-seen part of Bastien we were stoked, but the final product is heavier than we ever could have imagined.

If this would've been released 10 years ago skater's brains couldn't of handled it. People would've died
Justin Butcher Not only was this shit amazing. He was fucking 18, Now this dude is 29 and he still killing shit.
.... ...
@@aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa405 lmao yeah I’d think so he hasn’t passed yet bud
I wish, for Bastien's sake, his story would've played out a little differently. He definitely deserves to have a SOTY under his belt. Hard to accept that all of this footage went completely unused & UNSEEN throughout an entire era of skateboarding. Makes you wonder how something like that could even happen.
+Ryan Drehmann this was the best skateboarding of its time. and nobody knew
imagine this if one of the flip videos or something, sure SOTY for him, Salabanzi for ever
man i remember him blasting a switch heel up 6 stairs in KOTR. His sorry parts and his STYLE. holy shit. this video and your comment made me think a bit.
Brick Schitthouse he was the fucking best and suddenly nothing from him anymore no parts nothing while he had the footy
Brick Schitthouse I don't think anyone is saying he should be a current SOTY candidate, but back in the early 2000's there's no question he had good enough years. Those cab flips you see everyone doing now, he was the first person I ever saw hucking them down big shit.. nollie heel back lip down handrails.. I could go on. He was definitely a tech-gnar pioneer & without a doubt SOTY quality.
This dude officially owns cab flips. What a beast....
Been skating for 30 years -this is one of the best part i have ever seen. Bastien came from another planet and he is still up there in the hegemony of skateboarding
This was filmed ten years ago and its still better than 90% of the parts released now
Such a gnarly part!
RIP Lewis Marnell
That song was perfect for the part. Music can make or break a video part and this song made this a memorable video part to go along with his next level skating. This seriously could've been brand new footage and it still would've been the best video part to come out in a while. Bastien is an often overlooked legend.
people need to take notice on his style, the baggier pants and the way things were...please lets all go back to then for the love of all that is good and pure in this world
Damn, it must be heartbreaking to have a part like this wind up getting 'lost'. I'm hyped for Bastien to have this footage come out finally. I only wish it ended with a 'Welcome back to Flip!' or something.
supernewuser Flip fucked him hard. He made the same decision as Tom Penny to leave from the US to Europe, but ended getting the boot
flip kept his footage hostage, didnt get lost
We’ll I think we see now flip is nothing without all these guys…lost everyone that was probably the best team ever assembled and they got content…when I think of flip all I think of is those sorry days
This is fucking WORLDS better than some parts I've seen come out recently. And for this to be filmed ten years ago holy shit he was way ahead of the game
Would be pretty interesting to se Bastien Salabanzi on Epicly Later´d
yup !!! vice needs to do a story
welp, got the next best thing

THE NINE CLUB
@@82PeRK the show where skaters talk for skaters!
This was filmed in the 2003-2004 era. To give you proof that his skill was way ahead of his time, Chris Cole and P-Rod were at their peak, Sheckler was still on Almost, Shane O'neill and Nyjah were am, Koston was still on eS shoes, and Nike SB was new and not as popular as it is today. Bastien is a beast
This doesn't live up to today's standard. It's way better.
its kinda scary lol
I just watched this for an hour straight, fucking amazing
One of the best parts in skateboards history
This man did full cab double flips down stairs...
and double flip front board
this guy deserves recognition, this dude has true talent i dont think the skateboarding industry gives this the full credit he deserves
I had that cab flip front board sequence on my bedroom wall for years and have been waiting to see the footage forever. This made it worth the wait, holy shit that part was amazing.
thats the greatest thing i've ever seen. its a crime this didnt drop a decade ago
if there was a street league like 10 years ago Bastien would be so fucking rich jeez
The filming in this is AMAZING
Still one of my favorite skaters of all time, this video part is still a banger 10+ years later and a lot of pros still cant pull half the tricks he did is this part
I saw so many videos ...
for me, this is still the best part i've ever seen
I will never get rid of it
technical, fast, stylish and powerful !!!
impressive !!
Bastien, t'es stylé et techniquement impressionnant ! on ne peut se lasser de cette vidéo !!
why in the freaking world 3 people disliked this video? have you no idea of what this thing means for the whole world?!?!?! MAN!!!! this is a guy that EVERYBODY misjudged and went MIA for ages and he KNEW there was a mindblowing part of his stocked somewhere in the depths of hell that could've made him have the career of a Nyjah a full decade before! most pros don't compare to this part TODAY, let alone 10 years ago! Beastien Salabangin, you're the shit!!!
This era was when I was skating a lot and I loved bastien. Its hard to believe he fell under the radar for how sick he is. Glad he got some new recognition with street league he really deserves it.
With out a doubt one of the best video parts I've ever seen
geez. it must really suck having full cab flips as your go-to trick
Footage like this isn't "lost", Flip blackballed him.
Do you know why?
Bastien says they wanted him to jump down bigger rails and halfway kill himself and he didn't want to. That's all I've heard about the situation.
It was a combo of factors all of which played a roll
You have a point
Yinns never seen me.
Lewis Marnell and Bastien salabanzi in the same video, DAMN!
Song is by: The Ragid Jubilee "She's Gone"
Cool to see some old Lewis Marnell footage in there too! RIP.
That Blizzard flip at 2:43! I hate how Bastien gets ripped apart for "his cockiness." He is so damn consistent and gets really competitive but that's how he entertains the crowd and you can tell he's still having fun. I feel like that's looked down on in Pro-level contests now and judges want to see more people who don't try anything difficult but make it look good. If that's how they want to skate in a video part, fine but I think they need more skaters like Bastien in contests because competitiveness is exciting to watch.
the fuck is a blizzard flip?
Forrest Edwards
***** 360 kickflip
biilybob1 nope. its a kickflip 360
I'm pretty sure more people love him for his enthusiasm and excitement during contests than hate on it. I would seriously KILL to watch him win a Street League stop
Bastien is one of the best skaters of all time, this is crazy
bastian will never snap a deck because he always lands bolts
Uhhhh, he broke a board in this very video
lewis marnell & bastien = dream combo. R.I.P. Lewis
I've skated for a very long time and seen a lot of footage. This though... He is amazing! Solid and every trick was a banger! Def was the best part ever!!! From every direction about it!!
best part ive seen all year by far
Filmed ten years ago and still next level. Bastien Salabanzi is one of the most talented skaters I've ever seen. I hope continues to be active and put footy out, but even if he doesn't, he's still a legend.
This dude was seriously keeping up with present day skating with this part. Amazing.
This was my homies favorite skater in 2007 in high school. We were surfers at the time, but seeing this I can understand where his style came from and his apparel and dreads.Bastien was crushing it for that time
This video is one of the best videos i have ever seen this skater is so crazy good and I never even heard of him and all of this was ten years ago this guy needs to be crowned of some sort of way more because he is one of the greatest skaters to live and all I've seen is this video and I'm saying that this is crazy
he gave us a taste of the future
Fr all skaters skate like him nowadays
One of the greatest video parts that will ever be.
Incredible skating. This guy isn't afraid to go for anything. How does anybody dislike this?
ten years ago! shit, this part could be plan b's ender part its that good
Got that right my dude, makes bangers look simple as Fuck
he put full cab flip at the gap 2:07 which better than toery's ender
Man that's some great footage. I remember skating the Bastien pros from vans in all gray back in the day. Great stuff
I was like 12 the first time I saw flip 'sorry' and first heard of Bastien there. He was only 15 in that part and had already won the European skate championships by then. The man was godly on a board. Skateboard beast!!! One of the true greats!
This part was film like ten years ago and it's still better than most put out today
Bastien was killing it when Ryan Sheckler was still wearing helmets and doing early grabs in skateparks
Bastien is older than Sheckler dumbass.
Taylor Anthony ??
Taylor Anthony Wow. Just...wow.
Taylor Anthony Just shut up forever
Don't mind this Brick Schitthouse guy, he seems to be a jelly hater who thinks Bastien wasn't gnarly enough to be SOTY 10 years ago with that level of skating, and no arse, Sheckler didn't do stuff equally as gnarly as bastien did when he was a kid, as a grown up? Sure he did, not as a kid though, which is fairly understable, not gonna hate on Sheckler, he's insane at the game as well :) You are still a jelly kid though :P
In my opinion hes the greatest
Holy crap! Definitely one of the best. Thanks for posting this
this is INSANE, WTF 10 years ago!
BASTIEN SALABANZI LEGEND ... RESPECT!
THE DAYS.
I still remember watching Sorry for the first time and thinkin'....this guy.............this guy......
And then his part from Really Sorry!? Jesus...
OMG...so great to see this footage...totally stoked...would have been a shame to be never shown...thanks !
Wow. Thanks for sharing this Thrasher. It's an amazing part.
Bastien will go do down as one of the greatest skaters in history, at least in my book
Bastien was always a great skater. I wonder what happened to make his career slow up so much...but he's been killing it...
***** I dunno chris cole got a kid and he still killed and kills it
talk to much shit on past sponsors (especially ones that have 3 SOTY from the past on em') and no other company's wanna sponsor you if your just gonna run your mouth when the sponsorship is over. Loose lips sink ships, especially in the skate biz.
he was always known as a kook and a cocky little kid and i guess people just didn't get him. I am suprised he slept on all this footy for this time and didn't want some kind of release in the past to good to not show the world
Cocaine is a helluva drug
He went back to France to be with his family and sponsors dropped him as he wasn't in the US skating.
It's absolutely mind-boggling that this was filmed the 10 years ago. All hail the king of full cabs!
His roll away steeze/knee bend when doing stuff off stairs or anything high is so cool looking...unmistakable Bastien that so many try to imitate.
I remember paying like $40 bucks for the Sorry Vhs....shit was expensive back in the day
Mikey B yup. we didnt have youtube then
Mikey B it was also the best time to be a skater imo. times are different
kevinso187 yup
Mikey B Yeah, but I guess it was worth it.
There was always the one kid who had skate videos. Poor bastard. Everyone always borrowing his VHS tapes.
My god this is hands down the best skate part I've seen. "
Seriously some of the best Bastian footage/montage goin around...🎥🎬
This randomly popped up on my screen and im so happy I watched it one of the best parts I have seen in a while and if it was not lost would be a classic and would have pushed street skating so far ahead of it's time
He was Nyjah good before Nyjah was even pro.
Nyjah was definitely pro when this was filmed lol
this was filmed in 2004 lmao
Brick Schitthouse Are you drunk ?
@@sKyWIperzzz nope
thank u
he took nyjah out he full cab flip lip down an 8 and bastien did it down a 9 and this was 10 years ago and nyjah barely did it 2013....wow speechless! bastien deserves so much respect man!
thank you just recently picked the guitar back up and been skating more. this was the perfect thing to get me stoked!
This guy was on fire early to mid 2000s. Peak was around the time he won Tampa pro full cab flipping the fun box a hundred times that weekend
damn yo, fakie flipping the Santa Monica triple..dude rips
I could honestly watch him do full cab flips all day
Style is everything... from the simplest skate trick to the greatest. This guy has it all. Blessings
I can not express how dope that video was to see. That beyond sick and that she's gone song was perfection.
Its weird to think that this footage got lost considering how its such a gnarly part for back then and now
it wasn't "lost" he made enemies at Flip. this part was filmed by like 8 different people they ALL lost the footage? lol
Facts. Only thing that makes sense
I have a new respect for Bastien!!
Always loved Bastien agressive style...So ahead of his time
pure excellence! thanks thrasher and cheers to you Bastien!!
One day when we look back at skateboarding Salabanzi and Penny will two of the only names worth mentioning when we talk about real skateboarding!
now Ewan should release an ERIC FLETCHER lost part!!!
So good, one of the best!
So much of this is in Melbourne! Mapstone taking pics on the side... soooo rad, Bastien is a true talent
10 YEARS AGO? Few humans produce a part of skate as good 10 years ago. King of the "SOTY" One of the best skateboarding talent. Lost recordings or envy?
I know the history.. www.jenkemmag.com/home/2011/10/06/squashing-rumors-with-bastien-salabanzi/ Bastien was tired of his sponsors when he was a star when he was just 15 years, the clips of " the lost part" is just before disappearing, when he left his hometown and he disappeared, I'm sure someone did not publish his part to remove of the United States skateboarding scene
I miss those massive shoes from the time. Those were durable things, not those today's "boardfeel" craps.
Krisztián Tornai get some accels
+Harrison Maddox My god dude...
ES accel was my shiit! I literly had over 10 pairs in my life... Accels... Accel PLUS with the straps... Suede... Leather... My favorite ones were the Accel Plus black yellow and gray
they definitely are the most comfortable shoes i own, got the accel OG when eS re-released them in brown/gum. Havent skated them yet though, i just love walking in them cause they are like feet pillows :)
Seriously, I skate through a pair of the Evan smiths in one day, ONE DAY!
Ryan W I love Evan Smith, just not his shoes. And I’m not one that was in it for the style just thought they looked like a good kickflippin shoe but they almost literally disintegrated after one full session
Incredible, so happy to see this! Bastien has always killed it, even 10 years back. The funny thing is, is that new kids nowadays think that almost everything crazy they see is a NBD - When in fact a REAL NBD is very very rare, all the legends have done tricks no one could possibly think of, it's crazy!
I can honestly say he was my favorite skaters back in the day after the Sorry video, always looked for new footy but he was pretty much off the grid. Stoked to see him back on the map these days
Bastien salabanzi is a beast!!!!!
perfect style
I never get tired of watching Bastien. Such an amazing skater.
This thing deserves a million views!
He is a legend for me, just as Chris Cole, Andrew Reynolds, Eric Koston, Daewon Song etc. I don't know why he'd never been SOTY...
Exactly. Have you seen some of the winners they picked over the years? Of course there's some legends that have won but there's plenty that haven't.
so underrated holy shit
***** No i know but now a days people barley know of him
***** Holy Shit someone else who gets it. When I first started skating the Flip Sorry/Really Sorry team was, and is, the greatest team in skateboarding.
Then Bastien literally just vanished. Until 2012 I never knew it was because other pros blackballed him. I was so hyped on him, he seemed stoked just riding a skateboard.
As much as I hate Street League, they're to thank for his return to the spotlight. Now if they can bring Colt Cannon back, just promise to leave Tosh Townend working at that VW dealership.
still to this day, shit holds weight.. balls out, make it or break it type shit
my favorite skater since day -1.. sick style, and very fresh with the board. this is who I wanted to be growing up skating.. this is so sick.. im happy to know there are skaters out there that have never heard of bastien, but are captured by his powers off first impression.. im happy to say that bastien held it down for all of his fans and his love for skating.. he has always been underrated but the skate world has opened a bastien vision for us.. though bastien earned it all himself.. cheers bro!! btw.. the kickflip back nose grind, kickflip back tail to fakie, and kick flip back lip on the hubba is at my old high school. East Bakersfield high.. I have retro footage skating that as well.. keep skatin.. quit hatin.
This part is so Dope!
I really missed watch video parts of bastien, made me remember when i was more young.
So much sick shit. At 4:00 that memorial gap in Miami is scary as shit to bs flip it years ago is insane.
that spot is at the Melbourne museum not Miami haha
RIP Lewis Marnell
Bastien you fucking shred like no other
best part i've ever seen, you cant even tell if stuff is switch or not. absolutely crazy!
This is straight inspiration. So glad this surfaced. The song in it by The Ragged Jubilee was the right choice. Great skate, song and video. Thanks Thrasher Mag.
so many underrated skaters out here just like cody mcentire
everyone talks about nyjah bastian was doing this shit ten years ago
Jup this footage of him is ten times better than Nyah's.
Please, Bastien skate like this today!
this was way ahead of its time.
Very strong personality and skating style. The king of cab flips!
