  • This video talks about the process to register your personal Gold Jewelry with the Customs Bureau and Protection (CBP) before traveling out of USA. This talks about how to fill CBP Form 4455. Note that this process is relevant to US and not to other countries.
    Some CBP offices might ask for evidence to prove that you own your personal jewelry. So, take some kind of evidence such as purchase receipts (if you purchased them in US) or Jewelry appraisal or Jewelry insurance policy or pictures wearing those Jewelry etc.

    Good to know there’s an official form for this. I take pics of any jewelry I take to India and keep it ony phone as it’d have date/time stamps showing that I had them even before I traveled. This form is more official way I suppose. CBP hasn’t mandated this form to travelers yet… I’m sure that’ll come at some point. people wearing small jewelry like bangles or simple necklace etc on them may not raise a red flag… but one must use common sense and our best judgement imho. I have been lucky I haven’t been asked much in my decades of travel back/forth, but when asked, I’ll never lie. I don’t volunteer if they don’t ask but nothing is worth lying imo.

    Hi Swathi, I spoke to the CBP office at our port of entry. They told the declaration can be done only to personal jewellery that has unique serial number engraved on it. Otherwise they don’t accept. But I don’t think the jewellery purchased in India will have this unique code engraved on it. So in short, this form cannot be used for jewellery purchased in India

Suppose I carry some old gold/silver jewelry from here and exchange/sell them for new jewelry paying incremental cost, I am supposing I do not have to fill the form while leaving US to show what I am taking, and I declare only the final incremental cost for the new jewelry while coming into US. • @VAIS-SwaWorld
      @VAIS-SwaWorld  Před 7 dny

      Hi, from what I know, gold should be declared if it's above the allowed limit. You can check the India customs related links in the video description. Also if it's a jewelry purchased in India and if you have some receipts to prove it, I don't think you'll need to pay customs duty again since you must have paid tax in India when purchasing those Jewelry but I'm not 100% sure on what the customs officers might do there, hence try to contact the agents mentioned in the links or call India customs offices before traveling and find out the exact details. If you return to US again with that Jewelry, remember to declare them as your personal jewelry, have some pictures to prove that u own them and be prepared to pay import duty here if they ask you to.
