    We might as well call her “The First Lady of the Monkees.” She was part of the magic too. Thank you Lady Coco.

    OMG that was her voice on the Monkees ep? I love it!
    Coco will always be the fifth Monkee to me, always there quietly working behind the scenes but equally as important. Her blood harmonies with Micky are so soothing to the ear, and I can hear her backing vocals on many Monkees songs. I love how Micky and Coco are such a brother-sister team. They enter endeavors together and both benefit. Being an only child myself, it's so sweet to see two siblings support each other so much. When I watch the clip of Janelle acting, she's brilliant and I see the same spark that her children have.

    My very first concert was seeing Micky and Davy at Magic Mountain in CA back in 1977. I remember seeing Coco as a back up singer. I remember she wore a white blouse and purple pants. I still got the pictures from the show. It was a very special moment for me. Thanks for this upload.

      Saw Mickyand Davy at a rather large club in ‘77 in Fort Lauderdale Florida and I must admit, I was pretty disappointed. They did a lot of Broadway songs, and at the end, a very short Monkees medley. It seemed like they were trying to disAssociate themselves from the very thing that made them pop stars.

      I'm so pleased that is your take-away, which was the intent. As I mentioned in the show, I have been
      a tremendous admirer of hers for decades and wanted to provide insight into the the depth of her talent and spirit for others. It should be noted, Michael Pomarico works with me on the assembly of the show. He takes what I give him and makes it all technically presentable, a vital part of each production.

    I love your channel, and this interview is great! In addition to your encyclopedic knowledge of all things Monkee, you also put a lot of love & care into the editing of these videos. Thanks so much! I've been a Monkee fan since I first saw them the night that 33 1/3 aired in 1969. I had just turned five! Does Coco sing in the outro to Pleasant Valley Sunday? I can't find info on who that great voice is!

      Thank you for your wonderful comments, they are the measure that let's us know we're in touch with our audience and are doing good work. The man-hours involved in crafting each episode is tremendous, but we envision these shows standing as time capsules for the future, so it's worth it to get it right for future generations. I don't believe that's Coco on PVS...likely Bill Chadwick or Micky himself. Please keep watching, and above all, please share! (PS-I'm wondering what impression did the bizarre "33 1/3" special leave on a 5 year old girl in 1969?-JR

    I mever realised that was Coco in The Golden Great Hits... video. I think I am right in saying that until Good Times! in 2016, Coco was the only non Monkee to sing lead vocals on a Monkees song. Coco sings lead vocal on the first verse of Shorty Blackwell.

    • @TheMonkeesPadPODCAST
      @TheMonkeesPadPODCAST  Před 2 lety +2

      I would question that it's Coco and not Micky on the first verse of "Shorty Blackwell", though their voices can sound very similar-almost interchangeable

    • @paulcropper9655

      @@TheMonkeesPadPODCAST I could have sworn I read somewhere that it was Coco on the first verse. I was so surprised that it stuck in my mind. But having just checked the booklet with the Instant Replay Deluxe boxset it lists Coco as Lead harmony and backing vocals so I think you are right and it is Micky not Coco.
