    Good teaching...
    There is one correction if I may ad. Beneficial bacteria does NOT live in the water. I do 80% water change to maintain a crystal clear water. Beneficial bacteria lives in our substrates and decor 🤙
    beneficial bacteria dies if you don't
    1) dechlorinate water
    2) let your decor dry off

    Good video, very helpful. The bacteria bloom had me scratching my head when I started my first tank lol. Later on when the water starts going green my green killing machine worked wonders!

    This clears up a lot, since when I set up my aquarium it was cloudy for a while. It eventually cleared up but I always wondered what happened 🥰

    and another reason that l just went through on an established tank was the plastic flower pot that had no more plants in but still had the fertilizer enriched material in it . . took me several days and several water changes till i evetually stumbled across the problem . but not even 12 hrs after removing the pot my water is almost 100% free of the bacterial bloom and is very much back on track to being crystal clear

    I got a new 5 gallon aquarium for Christmas and bought some decor today. I also bought some wood. I set it up today but it already went hazy. And when I shine my phone flashlight through the water, the reflection of the light off of the opposite wall looks like a light tea. Is the wood still dirty and needs boiling or is it just the bacteria?

    • @EverydayAquarist
      @EverydayAquarist  Před 3 lety +1

      Tea colour is tannin from wood and isn't bad for an aquarium. Add some activated carbon to your filter amd it should clear up

    Thank you for the great video. I have a well established tank which is over filtered. The water is always clear except for after I do a water change it stays cloudy for at least a day then clears up. Any thoughts on why this might happen?

    • @EverydayAquarist
      @EverydayAquarist  Před 3 lety +3

      You're welcome. Possibly high ammonia or phosphate in your tap water causing a bacteria bloom this can also happen if you don't use decolonisation liquid

      @@EverydayAquarist Its worth checking, I will have to test my water, its only happened the last month ish. I also added about 20 pot scrubbers to my canister hoping to increase the biological filtration, maybe its not working so well..

    I have a 5 gallon with a really good filtration system, thriving live plants, a couple glofish and cool mystery snail and I have done LITERALLY everything to clear this tank. The cloudiness will not go away and any slight improvement is destroyed by the next day. It’s so unbelievably cloudy and no matter what trick I see I cannot get it to clear. Why won’t it clear and what am I to do?

    So I set up a new tank and waited about 48 hours before testing it and everything read as though it’s safe to inhabit fish but now after getting my fish I’m starting to notice the bacteria bloom happen about 4 days later is it still safe to keep my fish in there?

      You will just have to monitor ammonia, add some bacteria starter and maybe ammonia remover. Really other than taking the fish back you will just try and keep the fish alive until the tank matures
