  • Dr. Jay Bhattacharya is a professor of medicine, economics, and health research policy at Stanford University, where he is also the director of Stanford's Center for Demography and Economics of Health and Aging. After dedicating much of his career to studying the economics of health care, when the COVID-19 crisis began, Dr. Bhattacharya shifted his research focus to the epidemiology of COVID-19, the lethality of COVID-19 infection, and the effectiveness and effects of lockdown policies. This led him to co-author an open letter, The Great Barrington Declaration, which advocated for a lift of restrictions on lower-risk groups to develop herd immunity. He is also the co-author of the widely acclaimed textbook Health Economics, a staple in undergraduate and graduate curricula worldwide. He holds four degrees from Stanford: a BA, an AM, an MD, and a PhD in economics.

It's the same for engineers, they really need to teach them Business and economics as well. "The business of medicine" or "The business of engineering" should be mandatory classes in our professional educations. If only to prepare these folks for the reality of our world and how to work within it as a professional.

I might not have all the info especially since I learned alot on the internet and through screens but Maybe our biology hasnt caught up to the technology we have ie phones and computer screens are a relatively recent addition to daily human life. I wish we used our land for a variety of fruits and vegetables not just monocrop like pineapples or corn.

I don't think people have a clear understanding of what happened and why. This is my first hearing of these details. We just need a better way to communicate details and educate people that science evolves.

Interesting topic. I didn’t know about this doctor. Reading more about him and this interview it seems he might have gotten swept away in the flood of issues when he was trying to be more nuanced. He does seem
Politically naive and maybe that was the main problem. Him trying to find out more about the situation at a time when people where either panicking because it’s a new desease or panicking because their business was shut down is a big factor in his story and people’s view about him. Switzerland is a small rich country while the USA is 50 different countries with a history of government skepticism so at a time when the pandemic hit the top doctors and policy makers did not want wishy washy nuanced that would confuse the general public. Not to mention having trump trying to make this whole thing go away so he wouldn’t look bad.
So I think he was naive politically and didn’t understand the bigger picture but at the same time, now it’s a great time for him and everyone to study what happened, what went wrong and what went right so we don’t commit the same mistake. For example; not giving mandatory paid time off to sick employees after the pandemic seems the most insane thing ever. Clearly it worked in Switzerland. And also not giving money to everyone equally so the rich could buy Jpeg monkeys for half a billion dollars. So yeah, lots to learn and these interview help get a more nuanced and truthful answer to what to do next.

The whole thing was a control scam. And some made billions out of it. Some people were awake to it, and were demonized for refusing it, and some were sheep and some were lambs. The W.H.O are trying to control everybody in every country. It wont work
