  • Join me in another solo vlog as I venture out in to the county of Kent and visit the awesome Hornby Hobbies Visitor Centre just outside of Margate
This is home to the world famous Hornby train set brand and where there original factory used to be, it is now just offices as the sets are now made in other parts of the world
This well put together visitors centre is obviously home to Hornby but also Scalextric, Corgi and Airfix as the Hornby brand bought them out and now owns the rights, if you love classic toys this place is a must

Music by Epidemic Sound - www.epidemicso...
All footage was filmed in HD 1080p 50fps using a GoPro Hero 9 Black with a Max Lens Mod attached and using official GoPro accessories

I appreciate these vlogs. All the vlogs. The UK theme park youtube world has been a refuge the last year while I have been caring for my dad, grieving his passing, and cleaning out my childhood home. Theme park worldwide led to you, while you led to Slothy vlogs and Lift hills and thrills. I live just outside Niagara Falls, NY, and now know everything about the themeparks and funfairs in the UK and Europe. I know letting the ads play through all adds up, and I do so whenever possible as a way to contribute at least a little while I binge watch away. Again, Thank you. Right now I am literally throwing garbage bags in a Dumpster, Watching and listening to you!

I like these vlogs, too! It's a nice chance of pace from the parks and fairs. They're especially enjoyable when you're enthusiastic about it like here and the RAF Museum.

In case you're interested a bit about the history, without using actual dates:
Frank Hornby introduced Hornby Trains, which were O Gauge, after introducing Meccano, the parent company were Meccano Limited and based in Binns Lane, Liverpool. Meccano later introduced Hornby Dublo (pronounced the same as the scale, OO) and also Hornby Acho (HO) mainly for the export market. These were mainly metal/tin plate models, although did also make plastic ones.
In the 1950's Tri-Ang, who made several different types of toys, introduced Tri-Ang Railways, which were mainly made of plastic. Scalextric was also purchased by them at a later date.
At the end of the 1960's, Hornby Dublo was purchased by Tri-Ang and the became known as Tri-Ang Hornby. When Tri-Ang went into receivership in the 1970's they brand was changed to Hornby Railways and so Hornby were now the parent company but they did not now own Scalextric and also became a separate company.
As was mentioned in the video, in 2006 Hornby acquired the Scalextric, Airfix, Humbrol and Corgi brands and became known as Hornby Hobbies, who later acquired the other foreign companies in the group such as Lima and Rivarossi, and more recently acquired Oxford Diecast.

Lots wrong with summary. Hornby just a name used as owned by Rovex after Hornby Liverpool went broke in 1964 and asked Triang to buy them out. Rovex Triang just then could use the name. Hornby Liverpool people were mostly already sacked and the factory soon demolished.
The Hornby later 1971 name just a renaming of the Rovex Margate operation. Always owned Scalextric just shifted production to Margate from Havant.
Name changes were just reorganisation of key people and Margate facilities not a takeover by any existing company.
History vids of Triang Hornby and Scalextric on CZcams give great insight by Richard Lines who was the key high up making the decisions.
Valuable to them to have the pretence that Hornby carried on for name snobs.

Cheers for another interesting vlog, really enjoyed and was a good insight to what's inside Hornby Visitor Centre. Never again ever visited this place, but love Hornby Railways and Corgi Models and would be and have always wanted to visit here, but again have been too busy to attend. Shame its no longer a factory anymore, was thinking with space maybe a coaster could be built inside? Or a miniature railway? But then thought hold on, its a historical museum for models only, so model railways, planes and cars only. No rollercoasters, rides or miniature railways at least in standard gauge. Yeah talking about Dreamland, think in my honest opinion its a good park for history, but think they could do with a big massive indoor area, new rides and attraction & coaster types like you see & people can ride at Southend on Sea but unique attractions. Aswell have an area where it features classic rides with new types of attractions surrounding it. Offers a mix of all types of rides both modern and classic, with wristbands system like Adventure Island. They have loads of space there for expansion currently, for new rides, coasters and attractions. But apparently what I found out when visiting there in July was where Pinball X was, a big stage is going in that corner for live events, thats the main focus for the next 7 years. I know events is good for them, but I do think they could get bonus from rides current and new. But I guess we will have to see what happens in future? There was supposed to be a new hotel being constructed in the location where they filmed Empire of Light movie starring Olivia Coleman and Colin Firth, but what's going on with that I have no idea? But anyways, cheers for this video and look forward to the next. 😀👍
