Which of these titles are you most excited about?
Pinocchio!!
Easily one of the most hype months of announcements for me! Cannot wait.
I was actually shown the red balloon in Public school in NYC in the early 90s. Really cool that i still love it to this day
I really wish they would still show it in schools these days. I hate the stuff they show my kids at school. Nothing but loud obnoxious 3D Animated stuff.
DJ! Your enthusiasm is infectious! I’m so happy to get TWO wishes to come true for the holiday season.
Thanks man! I might have drunk a cup of coffee right before I recorded this 😅
Blast of Silence is a very solid Noir but it's definitely not very Christmasy. Although it takes place around Christmas, you wouldn't know it except for the fact that Christmas is mentioned several times. I would still recommend it though.
Oh yeah, I'm not expecting it to be very Christmasy. I just enjoy the novelty of watching stuff even tangentially related to the theme in December. Glad to hear you recommend it. I'm looking forward to it.
been loving these latest annoucements - these titles harmonize so well with your tastes! great video dj
I'm so happy about Pinocchio. I adore that film.
Me too, man. So cool that it's getting a proper release. I can't wait
It's such a universal experience too. I showed it to my mom who hardly watches any movies and she loved it.
Your enthusiasm just is so infectious!!!
Thanks man. I don't know if you could tell, but I'm excited. Haha!
@@FilmsByColor I couldn’t tell at all!
What an awesome way to finish a really strong year for Criterion. Would love to see you show these off in December DJ. Thanks for the video. Cheers.
Sure thing, man. Thanks for watching! I'll definitely be dropping a video in December when I pick these up. Stay tuned!
Yes! Super-excited for these releases.
I watched ‘the Red Balloon’ in elementary school on a 16mm print! In the mid-80s.
I loved ‘Pinocchio’. ‘Blast of Silence’, I haven’t seen, but Patton Oswalt speaks highly of it. Looking forward to picking up all these.
@@Bob-Savage Whoa! Your elementary school sounds amazing. I wish mine was that cool.
Hey! Can you pitch to Criterion a simple box set with Aliens, The Abyss and Titanic? Thanks, you’re a mensch!
Hahaha, sure thing. I'm on it!
Can’t believe we’re getting Pinocchio! One of my favorite films from last year AND one of the few I wanted to go into the collection!! 2023 has been a great year for criterion releases , and to go out with another film from
My “dream criterion” wishlist is great. Maybe next year we can finally get a proper (not bare bones) release of Tar and The banshees of an Inisherin. Great Vid!
Oh wow, Tar and Banshees would be awesome. Two more of my favorites from last year
I knew you'd be excited by these December releases, especially for the Lamorisse set and Pinocchio. I haven't seen BLAST OF SILENCE yet, so, I really cannot comment on the film itself, although I've been getting into noir heavily myself over the past 5 years. I'm excited for the Lamorisse set, I love both films THE RED BALLOON and WHITE MANE, although I feel that WHITE MANE is underappreciated, since everyone talks about and loves RED BALLOON. The non- Lamorisse release children film that CC released at the same time is PADDLE BY THE SEA, a very good film, perhaps not as strong as the two Lamorisse releases, but still worth watching and getting. I'm also excited for PINOCCHIO, which I also loved. Although, I am a little surprised because I was expecting NIGHTMARE ALLEY (both the color & B&W del Toto films) to be releases before PINOCCHIO, so it is a bit of a shock to see. Anyway, it is a great month. Merry Christmas, DJ and Grace and your children. Lots of merry wishes and good fortune comes your way. Enjoy Christmas. Santa will be treating your family right this year.
Thanks, Henry! And thanks for the the reminder to pick up Paddle by the Sea. I'm gonna have to order that one in the next sale, because I never see it in stores. It is surprising to see Pinocchio before Nightmare Alley, since we've already heard rumors about that one coming. Hopefully that joins the collection soon. I never picked up the standard release.
Hi, DJ! A few years ago I watched a CZcams interview with the comedian Patton Oswalt in which he praised "Blast of Silence," which I had not heard of up to that point. So, being a big noir fan, I immediately ordered the Criterion DVD and was really impressed. I think you'll like it. And even though the story has nothing to do with Christmas, there are some really nice Christmas decorations in the background as the main character walks through the city. I am excited about the del Toro "Pinocchio," which looks like a really nice release with excellent extras. Finally, I probably will have to pick up the Lamorisse set also as "The Red Balloon" is the only one of those films I've seen.
Hey Kevin! Thanks for the info about Patton Oswalt. Really cool that he endorses that film so much. I'm really looking forward to checking that one out.
Never heard of these films! Thanks for your comments!
Sure thing! Thanks for watching!
@@FilmsByColor Thank you, DJ! (It's DJ, right)?
I just heard about Blast of Silence a couple of months from a Christmas list of films on MUBI’s site. So I will be purchasing this year. Pinocchio and Red Balloon will wait until next half price sale.
I have Hammer’s Cash on Demand on Mill Creek’s 20 film blu ray set. I plan to double bill that with another Hammer film that has a Major Christmas scene in it, Curse of Werewolf.
@@brunomachado7279 Yep. You got it. My name's DJ 👍
@@plinfesty Oh cool! I'll have to check out Curse of the Werewolf. Thanks for the info
Del Toro on blu is an automatic day 1 purchase. Actually I've double dipped previous versions of his films once the Criterion Collection announced some of his films would be added to their collection. I have all of his films on either DVD or Blu-ray, 2 versions of Crimson Peak, the initial release and the Arrow blu. I have 70 titles from the Criterion Collection, including 3 box sets.
Agreed. Really hope criterion puts out his Nightmare Alley soon!
I thought about you, when I heard the announcement :) Not so much my taste, but I'm happy for you.
Oh wow. Thanks for thinking of me, man. And thanks for watching even though the titles don't interest you. I really appreciate the support.
Will you do a collection video soon?
What do you mean by collection video? You mean like go through my entire Criterion Collection?
DJ will be invited to the closet very soon.
haha! That would be the dream
