    Chose between Polestar 2 and Tesla Model 3. First drove the Tesla and was impressed. Then 2 hours later I was in the Polestar 2 and it blew me away. I fell instantly in love withe the Polestar. It simply looks stunning, very high quality and super nice little details. We went for the Polestar 2 Dual Motor with Performance Upgrade. One big point is also that the Polestar 2 can pull significantly more than the Tesla. 1.5 T vs. 550 kg.

    • @chrishyde1216
      @chrishyde1216 Před rokem

      As a camper, that is significant, except I'd understood that the M3 could tow 1000kg. Is it just the dual motor that can tow 1000kg and the single motor is lower?

    • @kimiisland9802
      @kimiisland9802 Před rokem

      @@chrishyde1216 Yes, the Dual motor can tow 1.500kg. The single motor only 800 or something like that. Just around what the Tesla Model 3 can tow.
      And I can tell you: I have the car since 8 months now and I still love it so much. The acceleration is amazing, it drives amazing, everything is working well, no problems so far and with a full battery you really get easily over 400km, with staying between 80-20%.
      I noticed 2 things that I wish that they were different though.
      1. The trunk door (tailgate): It doesnt have sensors and its huge. You cant open the trunk in any parking garage without being constantly afraid that it doesnt stop in time when you push the stop button. Its super annoying. I got already a scratch because it didnt stop and crashed in the wall. Also the foot sensor for the tailgate is not working that easily. You need to stand in a perfect position, know where the sensor is and what movement you need to perform that it actually reacts. When you carry something, this is just ridicilous and embarressing when you hop around on one leg and try to find the sensor.
      2. The Auto Pilot System: it is overall really good, nothing too special, but it works perfectly and you feel very save when using it. The car notices immediatly when someone tends to cross your lane and reacts much faster than any human could do. So this can save a life. It never brakes when it is not neccessary, it is really perfectly set up. BUT, what I really dislike is that the automatic steering suddenly stops at 140 km/h with minimal warning or notification. When you set cruise speed for example on 160 km/h, and you stuck behind another car and only do 130 km/h, the car automatically holds the lane. When the car in front of you is away, the car automatically accelerates to 160 km/h until there is another slower car in front of you. But when you hit 140km/h the auto steering/lane holding function gets automatially deactivated. I do understand the reason, but there is no real notification about that which can be very dangerous, since you are expecting the car to still hold the lane. It only shakes the steering wheel a tiny bit, but not more than it does when you hit or cross the border of the line. So when you are not watching your speed and look at the screen, you might not notice that you actually have to steer by yourself. You should at least have an option to get a acustic noise when the auto steering function gets deactivated.
      But I would definitly but that car again and I can only recommend it. I am super happy we bought the Polestar instead of the Tesla. We also looked at the Model Y, but its more expensive and doesnt look that great. Also the quality is not on the level of Polestar.

    The most important feature of the Polestar 2 over the Model 3 - the Polestar 2 is a hatchback and therefor a lot more practical than the Model 3. The Model Y is more expensive than the Model 3 so this makes the Polestar 2 a winner for some people. It is also more exclusive than the Model 3 which are quite common - even here in the UK. Indeed, it's like people who try to compare the mach e to tesla model y. The mach e awd er has over 20kwhs more useable battery capacity yet gets a similar range as the model y lr.
      Yet somehow people try to claim it's somehow better. Its like yeah no it is not, something with over 20%more battery which gets close to the same range. Is not in any way similar.
      Kinda like lucid fans crowing about the range of a car which has over 18% more battery capacity than the tesla model s lr.
      Ok lucid great job seriously, but boil it down and the lucid is about 5% more efficient.
      Less if tesla only has a useable capacity of around 94kwhs out of the 100kwh packs vs lucids 118kwh pack.
      Then they claim lucid makes the most efficient ev on sale. Uh no per the epa website the most efficient ev available right now is the model 3 at 142mpge, the most efficient lucid is rated for 131mpge. And there are others outside tesla which have higher than 131mpge ratings. 😀

    I own a 911 but I still enjoy driving a Model 3. Of course it is not as fun as a real sports car but most people do not buy sports cars. Even though a base model 3 is a mass produced mass market car with no sporting intentions I really appreciate that the engineers cared enough to make it fun to drive. The throttle response is punchy, the steering is quick and not 100% devoid of feel, and maybe most important it has a rear weight bias and is RWD. I cannot find the review but years ago some journalist compared it to the original mini in which the model 3 is a regular car that regular people buy for normal reasons that just happens to be actually fun to drive in a sea of boring cars.

    An important point which does not come across clearly is, that the energy efficiency of the tesla is much better, dramatically reducing the running cost of tesla vs other brands. For gasoline-cars, fuel-efficiency is a key parameter in branding, market and testing - why no do the same for electic vehicles?
    The fact that the tesla gets same range roughly with 50kwh battery vs a 75kwh is astounding => 33% more fuel/energy efficient. As some of us, are also buying electric cars out of consideration for the environment and climate, I think reviewers should have a lot more emphasis on this.

    A decent stats comparison Matt but what you did was fail to acknowledge that many of us actually spend our travelling time not in the driver's seat and not hussling along but stuck in the slow grind of everyday British gridlocked traffic.
    The rear cabin space and comfort of the Polestar looks preferable to me as that's the place where I will spend most of my car journey time. I don't need more than 200 miles of range because my bladder will want a break sooner than 3 hours at non-stop motorway cruising. I do value the hatchback versatility and I definitely do not need a panoramic roof or not-quite autonomous driving. I also do not need to accelerate from standing to 60 in 5.2 seconds. As it stands, that's almost never realistically legally or actually possible on Britain's congested roads anyway.
    I would like usb sockets in the rear (did either have these) and having more space for my legs to sit in a more relaxed and fully supported position would be very much appreciated. The footwell cutouts on the Polestar seem to accommodate me better here.
    Overall then: I prefer the ergonomics and practicality of the Polestar 2.

I’d even agree at the higher end, like the model S and X, competitors like Audi and Porsche have better cars for the price. But the model 3 at 40-50k is an absolutely insane car for the value. It’s gonna be a long time until competitors can offer exactly what the Model 3 does at its price range and still be profitable off of them. At the high end, I’d go with the competitors, but at the lower end, Tesla definitely wins IMO.

      @@philorgneopolotin8762 The only thing that's "special" about the Model 3 is it is a sedan. Other than that, it's an EV. the Polestar 2, as much as the auto media wants to make it a Model 3 competitor, is not a Model 3 competitor. The XPeng P7 does compete with the Model 3, even on price. The 3 may edge it out the 7 in some areas but that is one car that does.If and when Hyundai and Kia decide to make an EV sedan, also, the Model 3 would have more competition. Polestar wants to compete with Porsche and they're going to make higher end vehicles and full EV vehicles and not a Volvo hybrid electrified derivative that the Polestar 2 is now. I'm happy to see the Model 3 have success because I'm sick of crossovers everywhere and a popular sedan is a good thing. The industry is just shoving crossovers down our throats and people are buying them. There are just no other ground-up EV sedans (Polestar 2 is a hybrid, not EV platform) other than the XPeng P7 that I can think of that are sedans. The BMW i4 is more expensive. If anything, that's what Polestar 2 sees itself going up against but they know their platform can't really compete with it.

    I just did all this.. Ended up with the Tesla instead of the Polestar for one reason. Well, two reasons.. 1: I got it 10K cheaper by buying a slightly used ( 11K miles) off lease and 2: The polestar is V1.0 of a very nice car. Problems remain to be seen or found and more importantly here with stupid drivers, is if someone crunches my Polestar, it would take weeks and weeks to get parts because all the parts are going to the building of new polestars. Now, ask me in 2 years or so when I'm shopping to upgrade and the Polestar all things being equal, will probably win as it's clearly more refined as a high end car vs the Tesla.

    Best car in this vid was trying to cross the road. I'm not convinced with Teslas build quality either. My model S (2017, facelift model) was full of faults. Atrocious build quality all over it with squeaks, rattles, panel gaps all over the place, various error warnings for errors not there and to top it all the self drive didn't recognise mini roundabouts, liked leaving the motorway at every junction and hit the brakes for no good reason several times.
    It looked like a cat D minicab from new and by the time it was on 20k miles it sounded like one too.
