    This is Part 1 of a 6 Part Lesson Series on technique routines. You can use other books if you want but make sure to keep it balanced as I discuss. Also, grab some sticky tabs and mark the pages in my book so you can easily flip through. The levels to covered in the 6 part series are: Beginner; Lat-Beginner; Early-Intermediate; Intermediate; Late-Intermediate; Early-Advanced.
    Time Management Problems? Too much material? Remember to stay focused on the core elements of Scales, Alignment, Open String Exercises. If you can get a little of each in every practice session then you are doing well. For the open string exercises, first go through all of them and make sure you can play each one at a reasonable speed. Do only one of them during a session if needed. Check them off as you go. Once you’ve covered them all, focus on a select few that give you trouble. Pretty much the same advice for all the sections, go through everything, focus on your weaknesses and make them your strengths.
    Beginner Routine Info:
    -Length: Approximately 5-15 Minutes.
    -Keep it short and simple. Absolute beginners can start with 5 minutes a day and increase the amount of time as they become confident with the exercises. Practice at least a few examples from each group of open string exercises listed.
    • Open String Exercises No.1-5
    • Open String Exercises No.8-15
    • Open String Exercises No. 20-36
    • Basic Left Hand Alignment Exercises (pages 54-55)
    • Chromatic Scale on E (page 58)
    • First Position Major Scales: C, G, D (page 64)

    Very helpful. I've been playing classical guitar for exactly 4 days now (played a little chord guitar in high school and French Horn in band but nothing since, I'm 62 now). In other words an absolute beginner. I've already purchased/downloaded a few of your PDFs and am anxiously trying to learn. I've watched at least one of your videos every day and read a few of your blog posts. I am a CZcams creator myself (professional watercolor painter and instructor) having produced over 250 videos, so I well understand the effort that goes into producing your content and am so appreciative of the thorough, well thought out video and materials. Thanks so much!

    Love the professionalism of Bradford. I bought a Cordoba after watching his video on that brand. There are so many voices in the guitar teaching world of CZcams that I decided to basically stick to one voice - that of Bradford. He has enough info to keep me busy for years. And I like the fact that he starts us off with the fundamentals and insists on those being followed for the best outcomes in the now and future.

    Dear Mr Werner, my daugher is 6.5 years old studying in Year 1 and she started to a guitar course by her own will 2 months ago. But now she is having really hard times to understand the notes and playing the chords. So I started to learn the guitar as well in order to help her to practice at home😊 Between many guitar instructors and books, yours is really the shining star for us, it’s easy to understand and follow. Thank you for spending your precious time and energy to make these videos, they are indeed very helpful🙏🙏❤️ And if you have any suggestions or tips for how to teach guitar to a 6.5 years old, I would surely appreciate☺️

    I'm so happy that I finally got classical guitar few months ago, but I'm absolute beginner, and sometimes I'm even afraid to take it in my hands. My main problem is keep myself motivated, probably...

    By any chance will you be doing a video on tips for those with a steel string guitar? Now you might be tempted to "cringe" and respond back; "what you talk 'in about Willis?" I'm playing a Luna Parlor size steel string, it was the best sounding guitar (me being subjective) within my resource range steel string or nylon string. Thanks for your videos, your probably reaching/introducing/teaching music to people who otherwise would not have the resources to do so.

      @Thisisclassicalguitar  Před 3 lety

      Well, there are plenty of great steel-string channels on CZcams so I'm just focusing on classical/nylon string guitar. That said, there are so many similarities that there is lots of learn from each side!

      @@Thisisclassicalguitar Thanks, I will take your advise and try learning from both perspectives. I don't consider myself a musician or having a lot of musical talent, I just find it enjoyable to play the guitar.

    But which muscles are we using to apply pressure? The arm, the first knuckle, second knuckle?

    • @Thisisclassicalguitar
      @Thisisclassicalguitar  Před rokem

      The weight of the arm and hand contribute for sure, but in the end very little pressure is actually needed. Experiment with this: www.thisisclassicalguitar.com/lesson-left-hand-tension-relaxation-exercises-guitar/

    Hi Bradford, I have your book “essential guitar technique”. It’s great. I have a question on exercise No. 16 page 35. Ditto No. 17. I am not sure how to play the “rest” symbol. Do you mute the strings? Do you have video (or just audio) for all these exercises? Anyhow no biggy just curious. Many thanks

    • @Thisisclassicalguitar
      @Thisisclassicalguitar  Před 2 lety +1

      Simply place your thumb back on the string. You'll want to make sure the rest is synchronized with the playing of the note above it. Practice just up to the rest and the note a few times to make sure you simultaneously hear the upper note and the muting of the bass.

    Hi. I have your Classical Guitar Technique book. I'm looking at page 93 (Left Hand Independence, Stretch, & Alignment) but not understanding what the exercise is asking. Is there a video in here that show what the exercise is about? Thanks in advance

      Simply place the three indicated fingers on the string and hold them there. Then move the indicated finger.
