So, that style of period sleeve was meant to be pulled up all the way to the top of the arm so the poofy part sits right below the shoulder, in your armpit. Also the piece in the bag with the bouquet is meant to be worn in the back of the hair. Typically women of that time period wore their hair down, pulled back and curled with flowers in their hair. If you wear it on Halloween I would look for a parasol or little lacy umbrella, many women of that time period carried those. Sorry, I'm currently taking courses in historical costume design so I wanted to share😊 love your videos!!!
Jake Thereault Yeah, that's a quinceañera dress. You need the sleeves for the church ceremony (shoulders covered) and quince dress fashions are heavily influenced by elaborate 17th and 18th century fashions.
A little bit of information about the 'brand'. It's from a boutique in Fresno, California and, according to google, has permanently closed. I think the dress is absolutely gorgeous!
That is a great dress. Surely you can come up with a character and story for that dress. It looks lovely and makes a great noise on video. That dress was made for you and your "comedic characters". I look forward to seeing character development from such a dress. Thanks for sharing. Love your videos!
I may use another person's suggestion and use it for a medieval gossip roleplay. Another person suggested that I use it to do a roleplay with one of Cinderella's stepsisters. I'll have to include a disclaimer, though, because I've gotten a lot of flak for describing the dress inaccurately. Any video I make probably won't have a comments section. I've gotten some hate over this dress, just showing it in this one video.
This is a beautiful piece! Worth far far more than $50.I have found couture items in Sydney (Australia) the same way, mainly because those who price them have no idea...Ironically, they frequently price common items you can buy in chain stores new, for not much less. It's a little work of art, looks gorgeous on you - treat yourself and keep it!! xx
I am convinced this is a quinceanera dress. most quince dresses have matching bouquets and hair pieces. the boutonniere thing at 16:30 is most likely a hair piece. i think it is 100% a quinceanera dress.
Mary please don't stop making videos!!! I understand why you'd want to disable comments but every new video is like getting a present every day. I can't sleep without these videos!
oh, maybe it is! im spanish and even i wasn't able to tell at first - ballgowns all look the same, but that explains the bouquet and accessories. my childhood friends just wore prom dresses to their quinceañeras
clothing is whatever you want it to be. you wear the clothes the clothes don't wear you. you can make it into whatever you want. forget what other people say. with the right accessories you can approach this dress in many different ways! keep your head up!
I am disheartened to read some of these comments, it's like it was on some people's agenda to take the wind right out of her sails. Mary does an excellent service for the ASMR CZcams community so nit-picking behind a screen seems sad to me. She was so excited, in another video, to find this gorgeous gown at the thrift store, and made numerous remarks in this video how much she loved the dress, her enthusiasm for it was palpable. Now it appears she will dispose of it due to unnecessary remarks made by select viewers (is she under a microscope?). Again, it was apparent that the dress initially gave her incredible joy, and me, a viewer, much needed rest. It's upsetting that it now causes anguish due to others' callous remarks. I wish people would think twice about what they say in comment sections. Mary's a real person, we are all real people, so she deserves to be treated, as we all wish to be treated, with respect, on and off-line.
I'm fairly sure this is a dress for a quince. I'm from Fresno CA, where the shop that made this dress, was located. It has a large Mexican population. These dresses are HUGE and beautiful. It's a religious ceremony and a rite of passage for young Catholic girls.
NeeshaD22 It's so big, though. I am 5'7", like I said, and even I'm not tall enough to wear it the way it is, even with heels. You'd have to be 5'10" at least to wear it without hemming it up. You'd also need a lot more "up top".
It's definitely big and poofy like some wedding dresses, but it has a misses' size in it, not a junior's size. Plus it's just...It's just made for an adult. I don't know how to describe it. It's made for a tall, busty woman. Sure, there are some 15-year-olds out there who could wear this dress, no doubt, but I imagine most of them wouldn't be able to wear it without some serious alterations.
I liked this video-that by the way you put a lot of personal time and effort in to (considering you work, have kids and are moving!)-and it's much appreciated here, across the pond. Ignore the negativity, stay positive and keep doing what you do. Looking fabulous by the way :)
try doing a Cinderella step sister gossip of something whisper video, I really enjoy your whispering gossip videos so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do this video 😀😀😀😀😀
I understand (sort of) why people feel the need to give u some extra infor about the dress , bt at the end of the day its a dress. you can use/ wear it for whatever the hell you want to do with it. Yes things are designed with in intended use, but you arent bound to it by any means. Saying that it was good to read some historian comments and learn some interesting facts! But people don't need to BE SO RUDE ABOUT IT!!! ps i vote keep it. For $50 what an absolute find. p.p.s. your videos give me life, a 20 year old with financial stress, work drama, exams, bad sleep and anxiety, a boy friend in the army 2000 kms away and mid going through a whole bunch of health scares being able to jump on here and relax with you makes my day xx please dont stop!
You look gorgeous in that color! Believe me keep it. The dress was $50 for you normally they are around $300 for that kind of dress. I'm being serious you are beautiful and you glow of happiness in it❤
Victorian Rose Couture pops up quinceañera dresses and you can see that same dress in red! So cool. I love the fabric sounds. farm4.static.flickr.com/3234/2818986558_d7a34bafa1_m.jpg
You should search up quinceañera dresses, I consider the one in this video one but usually quinceañera dresses are way bigger. I feel like you would enjoy looking at them. ♡ beautiful blue dress btw 😍
i think looks a lot like a southern belle dress as someone said below. you could use this to make a gossiping video or a video talking about proper etiquette using a really really strong southern accent. 😍 but it's your choice. by the way blue looks very lovely on you!
SouthernASMR Sounds wow, that sucks. I saw the comments and it's typical unrequested advice and higher-than-thou behaviour. please don't let it get ya down, especially with how much you loved the dress, sad they sucked the fun out of it for you. 😧
I’ve been watching ASMR videos for a while now and just stumbled across your channel a couple weeks ago. You are now my favorite! What did you end up doing with the dress? Did you make a video? Scrolling through the comments I saw there must have been some hurtful comments. I’m sorry to see that 🙁. Unfortunately that comes with putting anything on the internet. I swear there are people who go through videos and dislike them without even watching them! And they say hurtful things they would NEVER say to your face! Easy to do behind the anonymity of a keyboard 😡 Anyway...I really enjoy your videos! Keep up the good work!!!❤️
I don't know why people would be mean over this (or any reason, really)! Sharing knowledge is one thing but some people seem to be looking for the tiniest excuse to start drama! It's clear to me you just thought this was a beautiful item and wanted to show it on camera, that's all. I know you certainly weren't trying to disrespect anyone. Wow you must be strong to put up with some ridiculous comments and keep making your videos which are enjoyable to many, including me. ❤
That's what others have said, and I can see that. The only problem is, the elastic on those sleeves was SOOOO tight, even there at my elbows. If I hiked them all the way up where they're supposed to be, it'd be like wearing a tourniquet. I don't think I have fat arms, but DAAANG those sleeves were tight. They left rings above my elbows that stayed there for about a half hour after I took the sleeves off!
Jill Bravo You should come check out the Goodwills around my area. I find stuff like this quite often! I don't always buy it, but I see these sorts of things a lot here.
Great whispered video as always. The dress looks beautiful on you but I would say you would be wrecked after a night of wearing it, it seems to be very heavy. Love from Ireland xxx
I wore this dress in red for my quince. so there you have it. it's a Quince dress. Stop being so hateful commenters. not everyone knows historic fashion 😂😂😂
Do they use misses' sizes in Quinceañera dresses? It's a misses' size 8, and it seems to be made for a very tall, VERY busty person. I honestly don't know.
sophie yerrell I live in Ireland so I'm not exactly sure but I think it's like charity shops where people donate old clothes, shoes, toys etc and sell them for quite cheap
As a costume designer and one who researches fashions of time periods way too much, I found it a bit hard to relax during this video :P but your soothing voice always manages to do the trick. I will say though, if you wore this in medieval times, you certainly would have been prosecuted, if not executed, as showing one's arms and shoulders was a huuuuge taboo.
Okay. Lots of people have a problem with this dress and my inaccuracies relating to it. I'm selling it. God almighty it's caused a lot of heartburn for people.
As an historian I felt I needed to correct you. Bare shoulders during the Medieval Era were bountiful and by no means would result in 'prosecution,' 'execution,' or anything of the sort. They certainly did not hold any societal taboos either. The modern depiction of Medieval fashion that you see in TV and movies do show the majority of women wearing dresses that may cover their arms, but that is by no means meant to be taken as a historical accuracy or norm.
Yeah, I'd have to have it altered if I were going to actually wear it anywhere. It would've fit better if I'd had somebody there to help me lace it up and tighten the laces. I couldn't do it very well by myself. But yeah, it's too long and too big "up top" for me as it is.
You should do a medieval role play kinda like your gossip one but in medieval times! That would be hilarious!
Jordyn Vetter Yes please!!!

Jake Thereault I like it better the way I had it, whether it was "wrong" or not.
Jake Thereault Yeah, that's a quinceañera dress. You need the sleeves for the church ceremony (shoulders covered) and quince dress fashions are heavily influenced by elaborate 17th and 18th century fashions.
SouthernASMR Sounds I mean the way you had it was pretty too, it's a great color on you!
SouthernASMR Sounds lol what a snotty response. you seem like a bitch every time i read your comment replies...officially unsubscribing
SouthernASMR Sounds also, the way you're wearing it DOES look foolish
A little bit of information about the 'brand'. It's from a boutique in Fresno, California and, according to google, has permanently closed. I think the dress is absolutely gorgeous!
You post more than any other ASMRtist! You are so wonderful, Mary! (My name is also Mary!) 😊
BonaFideQueer She really is! my favorite ASMRtist. I love acting and she's like an inspiration cause she's so good. ☺️
Thank you!! I love your name!! LOL

To be honest, your excitement about that dress made this video great! It is such sweet and genuine excitement!
you could go to a renaissance fair in it! :) so pretty
or a fantasy fair
People have told me that it's a quinceañera dress.
oh, maybe it is! im spanish and even i wasn't able to tell at first - ballgowns all look the same, but that explains the bouquet and accessories. my childhood friends just wore prom dresses to their quinceañeras

The rustling of all that material with the whispering is asmerizing excellence.
The dress makes good sounds ;)
You should get an antique dress form or mannequin and display the dress on it like a decor piece in your home! Would be so pretty!
It's so awesome you not only found that dress at goodwill but that it was also the right size!! And the color is just PERFECT. :)
What a lovely dress, it looks beautiful on you! Thanks for sharing!

What a lovely dress! I'm so glad you got it! :)
You look so lovely in that dress, great colors on you! The ivory compliments your complexion and the blue your eyes !
Girl, werk! You cracked me up talking about the sleeves lol you're so cute.

Wow soooooo many tingles 🙂🙂

Now you gave to film a role play in this dress 🙀😍☺️
This would be great for like a cos play or a Ren Fair or something!
How fun!!!!!!

Mary, you should TOTALLY wear this to a renaissance festival!
I'm told it's actually a Quinceañera dress.
You should search up quinceañera dresses, I consider the one in this video one but usually quinceañera dresses are way bigger. I feel like you would enjoy looking at them. ♡ beautiful blue dress btw 😍

Pretty sure this is a quince dress. It looks beautiful! I love your excitement. People just love drama so ignore that.
you look so beautiful 😊😊😊 I'd love to watch you wear this in a medieval roleplay!! wow
Too many people have criticized me for showing this dress and making inaccurate guesses as to its style/type. I'm going to sell it.
SouthernASMR Sounds wow, that sucks. I saw the comments and it's typical unrequested advice and higher-than-thou behaviour. please don't let it get ya down, especially with how much you loved the dress, sad they sucked the fun out of it for you. 😧

stunning
Beautiful
I just want to see it on 😩
You look so beautiful in that dress😍😍😍
Thank you!
that dress makes amazing sounds when you move around while wearing it! I'd love to see it come back in a future video!
Halloween would be perfect to ware it
A True Southern Belle
i think those sleeves actually go up higher with the puffy part closer to yiur shoulder. its a very French design. sort of Marie Antoinette.
That's what others have said, and I can see that. The only problem is, the elastic on those sleeves was SOOOO tight, even there at my elbows. SouthernASMR Sounds did you ever sell the dress?? how much did you end up selling it for???
ReneeandJimmyG by the
I have pirate themed wedding to attend next month- this is perfect. Why I can't I find stuff like this in Goodwill 😜
Jill Bravo You should come check out the Goodwills around my area. I find stuff like this quite often! I don't always buy it, but I see these sorts of things a lot here.
Lol funny how the dress stands up itself
good video ☺
Not quite sure if you said this or not, but a masquerade mask to match would be cute if you wore it for Halloween.
You should do a follow up to the socialite roleplay in the dress!
I could possibly do that!
keep it!!! think of the many many vids you could do.... like a bitchy princess or propper tea party. love your videos!!!
I've already gotten a lot of hate over just this one video featuring the dress. I'm about ready to chuck it out the window.
Great whispered video as always. The dress looks beautiful on you but I would say you would be wrecked after a night of wearing it, it seems to be very heavy. Love from Ireland xxx
37 Seconds after upload :D
I wore this dress in red for my quince. so there you have it. it's a Quince dress. Stop being so hateful commenters. not everyone knows historic fashion 😂😂😂
What is goodwill? Is it like a thrift store?
Andrea van der Colff yes :) people bring things they don't want and Goodwill sells it
Thank you!
I could see Lynette trying to crash a cotillon in this dress.
Did anyone ever tell you that you look super similar to ASMR Angel?
That's a dress for a Quinceañera, I believe.
Do they use misses' sizes in Quinceañera dresses? It's a misses' size 8, and it seems to be made for a very tall, VERY busty person. I honestly don't know.
You look beautiful in this dress although you look good all the time to me
Aw, thanks!
Sorry but I live in England, what is good will ? 😂❤
sophie yerrell I live in Ireland so I'm not exactly sure but I think it's like charity shops where people donate old clothes, shoes, toys etc and sell them for quite cheap
Yes, that's correct.
Ellie Clayton ahh okay thank you ❤
could have been a quinceañera dress

Pin it to the hair
little bo peep
Counting her sheep!!!!
Talk about an appropriate rhyme for one of these videos
Ooh, that would be cute! I'd have to have one of those big staffs, though, and I can just see my kids now, beating each other to death with it.
then make it diy a pool noodle and some paint or something
It's beautiful on you, but looks a bit too big.
Now I will rewind this to sleep 😴

SouthernASMR Sounds you looked adorable regardless :)
that is very much not a medieval style
I'm naked
whywould you need a dress like that if you don't mind me asking
I don't.
