I’ve just started making stuff with resin and this was so helpful, thanks!
You're welcome!!
Hello Seriously Creative :),
My names May and from my personal experience as a watercolor artist I think I may be able to help understand why the resin pieces made with Alcohol inks changed so drastically. I always choose watercolor made with pigment and not dyes because dyes are not lightfast and most pigments are. Light fast is how long a color will stay vibrant while being exposed to Sun light. Although your blinds were closed it is possible that the dyes in those alcohol inks were of such low quality that being exposed to little sunlight made them disappear. I hope this helps and that you try new inks and look into the ingredients more because the effect seemed very cool and I would love to see more of your work.
Sincerely, May
Wow, thank you May. This was so informative and helpful 😊 i really appreciate the feedback!
New to all of this resin techniques, so much to learn. Thank you for taking it slow and less complicated. I try to keep it simple no cricket. Thank you 🌻
Thanks for doing this! I took some notes for myself on the colours but figured I'd share in case others wanted to use them too!
Resin Colouring Used:
1:47 , 13:02 Acrylic Pigment Ink: Bright, pigmented colours.
3:23 , 9:19 Acrylic Paint: Doesn't mix very well, light colour
4:41 , 12:00 Mica Powders: Can brush this right into the mold, works well with a lot of detail. Pale colour
6:39 , 9:42 Alcohol Ink: not true to colour when mixed into resin (fades a lot see: 11:03)
This is so helpful!! Thank you for the video!! I'm going to start getting into resin soon and hopefully open up an Etsy shop so I really appreciate your videos!! Thank you so much!! Everything that you make is so amazing!!
Dry makeup pigment make good resin colors, i have been told they are often made of the same things anyway. Also powdered coolaid packets.
Lovely to hear you again! How are you dear? Also I'm HERE for those colour choices!!!!💖💜💙
Yes, I’ve used acrylic paints before and even chalkboard paint to color my resin when I’m in a pinch. I do believe your correct about the powder but I will say that the paints come out more opaque where as the alcohol inks are more translucent. Haven’t had a chance to work with pigment pastes yet but i will be here in the near future. Thanks for the video.
Very helpful. I appreciate the way you showed the process of mixing and the results.
Thank you so much for the tips- Ive been driving myself crazy trying to figure out the petri-dish technique for this fairy moon piece & you have the EXACT same colors (& brands) that I have available and wanted to try baja blue, passion purple, magenta & pearl. I LOVE how yours turned out! Another thing you put into perspective for me in this video: I like to 'paint my pieces backs and sides with golden mica. Ive only ever done this on smooth flat surfaces and it never comes out even. Ive already spent DAYS painting my piece with gold mica and wondering how to apply these EXACT three colors. Its my first big piece, this tutorial is just what I needed. I really appreciate these artists coming out to help other artists.
I’ve just started making a few things with resin, so this video was really helpful explaining the different kinds of things to use for colour. I can now start experimenting with colours, and hopefully they turn out as good as yours! Thank you.
Thank you for watching Lyn 💖
I just started using resin and have been binge watching your channel... would lovvveee to see you do a tutorial on the foil stickers you use in a lot of your videos!!! 🥺🥰
I'm planning on doing one soon 💖thanks so much for watching!
Thank you for demonstrating the differences!! 👏👏 They all turned out lovely!!💖💖
Thank you!!!
@@SeriouslyCreative You are very welcome!! 💖💖
You did a great video. It was just what I was looking for. I wanted to learn about which ways to color resin. Thanks so much!
You're welcome! I'm actually making a new colouring resin video soon so keep an eye out 💖
I love the faded version!
This is a really great comparison video! I've always been curious about mixing alcohol ink into resin instead of dropping it in, good to know it changes colour and fades a lot so I don't need to try it.
I use a white pigment paste in some pieces with acrylic ink to make pieces opaque or make them pastel and it works very well! If you're looking for pigment paste or pigment powders take a look at art tree creations and see if anything interests you :)
Thank you! I've actually emailed the alcohol ink company to see if they know why this happened. I can't wait to try pigment pastes, thank you I'll check them out! 💖
@@SeriouslyCreative I'd be really interested if you get a response back, also I may try it anyway to see if it differs between brands 🤷♀️
I use alcoholic inks in my resin almost exclusively, and haven't had any fading. I wonder if your resin and alcohol inks don't mix well.
I love to use nail art dipping powder to dye resin. it works really well!
Ohhh thats an interesting idea 🤔
Thank you so much for this video I was searching for such videos. It’s very helpful thanks once again.
Great video I’m just getting in to resin and you’re a huge inspiration to me, thanks for all your amazing videos 😊 also I’ve used food colouring in my resin too, it’s a really cost effective way of colouring resin I think xx
Thank you so much! I appreciate your kind words 💖 i have tried food colouring but it didnt mix very well in my case, but you're right its a very cost effective way to colour resin
Did you use food coloring powder?
Filipe no i used food colouring liquid just a drop or two is all you need 😀
Is food color affect the resin quality or any other
Great presentation of a variety of resin coloring. Gave me a good insight into which ones I would rather use. Noticed the mica one (which I will be using to make my first small trinket box) was a bit light, which is good. I will remember to add more powder to make it a deeper richer color. Thanks again for sharing...
Excellent! Glad to hear it helped ! I'm actually working on a new resin colouring video with more info 😊
Great video. Although i have to disagree with the acrylic not blending because it depends on the resin you are using. Ive mixed it with Alumilite and pebeo and it actually was better than pigments and made bubbles disappear instantly.
I’m not sure if this has already been said in the comments, but when you add clear to pigmented color when dying hair it does the same thing. It lightens the color. It’s interesting that it also does that with resin.
I really want to try india inks as well! I feel like the colors would come out super vibrant. Another amazing video and thank you for the shout out!
😘😘😘
Oh.. good to know. . I didn't know what. I going to stop buying alcohol ink. So I have to pigment ink only? How about food color will that fade away too.
I find acrylic paint clumps up in the resin no matter how careful I am. The powders have been the best for me!
Thank you so much for this video, extremely informative!
That's exactly how I want it to turn out, that cloudy type color.
Very interesting that the alcohol inks faded. I can hardly wait for you to get your hands on the India inks, pigment paste, and pigment powder. Those look like a lot of fun! I think the powder will do well because it would 'melt' into the resin like the mica powder. But let's experiment when younger the chance. Keep up the great work! 😆
I know i was shocked at how much they faded?! And i am really looking forward to trying some pastes and pigments when the time is right 😊💖 thanks for your support!
Always seen people brushing powders on their resin molds but never knew what it was. Cool video!
Thanks glad you liked it 💖
You can take a drop or two of acrylic paint on a wide toothpick and swirl it into the resin. This gives a nice curly or cloudy appearance. When I want a brighter color of the alcohol inks, I add a drop of white acrylic paint and mix.
Good idea! 💕
Thank you, very useful!! 😊 About your note, even if we try to do something like your art, it NEVER could look the same, impossible! Just think about the possibilities, so don’t worry 😉
Thank you!! haha even when i try to make something i always turns out different! You're right, it would be very difficult to copy anyone, resin really has a mind of its own :)
i do it with oily paint too and it works pretty well
Thanks for the vid, I liked the drip method for the star, cool I can't wait to try that out. :) Keep well
Thank you! Have fun trying it out!
eye shadow is amazing too💖
I'm going to try eyeshadow as soon as i find some. I don't wear makeup so I don't have none on hand
Good idea! 💖
u saved my life THANK YOU
Loved it, eye opening good to know thank you
wooow beautiful colors, I am fascinated by your channel and I learned a lot with you friend !, I am grateful because with you I learned this art of resin and I fell in love more and more!, I enjoyed your video a lot thank you very much !!!😍🙏🏻💖💖💖
Wow thank you, such a lovely comment 💖 thank you for your support i am glad my videos are helpful for you!
love this!
For pinata alcohol inks, the color is usually not true to color but I’ve seen people mix in other colors to get the color they want in those cases
I tried using the pinata pink in the latest project I did (resin and burl lamp) and I had to use nearly half the bottle for approximately one litre of resin, it also was a nightmare to mix. It wouldnt mix in the resin very well, it stayed in tiny particles. I have to take it out of the mould tomorrow and see how it looks cured.
Excellent, informative video...and I love your accent!
I really like the alcohol star and the ice cream cone.
Thank you! 💖💖💖
I appreciate ya videos no time to do this but admire your work! Hopefully one day 🤷🏼♀️
Aw thank you 💖 yes hopefully one day!!!
Awesome tutorial thanks for sharing
I saw your other video where you colored the mold before pouring. I tried this and my acrylic paint beaded up. I can't get the paint to spread evenly. What did I do wrong?
These companies should make alcohol inks for resin that don't fade since they fade out and a lot of resin crafters use it but they don't tell you what happens when it's left out for a few days. Steve MacDonald has a video showing the alcohol inks fading as well. Ty for a great insightful video.
Hello! Thank you for the video, it was very nice. I began to experiment with resin some months ago and I bought some resin colors and some mica powders. When mixing resin and resin colors, the resin tends to remain so soft and flexible even after a week (if I touch it, my fingerprints remain). I thought that maybe I put too much colorant, but even if I put a single drop, the resin was soft and extremely flexible. I'm quite sure about the two resin components, so I was wondering if it's a normal thing to happen or if anyone has a suggestion.
I absolutely love these designs! And the filming was great quality, and I’m so glad I found you!
Thank you! 💖
thank you, very informative. where did you get the ice cream mold?
If I use white acrylic paint do you know if the specks will show up as clearly if I get the resin really opaque? Also, I have a really thick paint that's more like a cream, could I water it down first or would that mess up the resin reaction?
This was a great video TFS
Hi! What is the best glue to use on Resin products for clips?
I bought some of the same brand of alcohol ink, and I've personally found that it's only the pink and purple that look different in the resin. They're true to colour on paper, so I think they must be reacting with the resin in some way. I tried to 'rescue' some pink (because it went an unpleasantly bright fluoro colour) by adding blue, but it went the same brown-ish purple as the purple ink. Your pink actually looked orange, but I assume this is just the video camera not being able to catch the fluoro thing
Because of this, I bought a set of proper resin dye, but I found both pinks from that also got unpleasantly bright when mixed into the resin, though one didn't go all the way to fluoro. The red was gorgeous though, so I know next time I can make a decent purple.
Given that other comments have mentioned success with other water-based media, it occurs to me that your issues with mixing in acrylic paint may simply be a texture matter. Might be worth trying a thinner paint, perhaps? Such as one designed for pouring art?
Hey thank you for such a detailed comment :) Yes i agree about the paint, i have a few now that seem to work well. As for the ink, i believe it is really not meant for use with resin (maybe just as a petrie dish technique but not actually mixed in.) The resin pigments i brought from Ali express are all pretty good and true to colour, except for the orange which turns brown. Its a matter of trying out different colours i suppose.
Great job
any suggestions on how to color lines in molds? I have a volleyball mold and would like to have the lines stand out within the resin
when using alcohol inks or bombay inks, should i use more hardener as ratio 2:1?
i found using equal parts and adding ink, they never fully cured, (soft). Thank You!
I love your work and watching your videos. Quick question: by any chance, do you know how to make colors transparent/translucent?
I was thinking about getting into resin, and I'd love to make something with color that's see-through
Hey thanks! Well, like i showed in the video, resin pigments are a great way to get translucent colours 👍
Hello! I do have a question! When you have molds like flowers and say the middle part of the flower is supposed to be a different color. i struggle figuring out how to do that? Also i have a few like star sparkles that i would love to apply to my pieces but i struggle getting them to show? if you wouldn't mind helping me i'd appreciate it!
Can you used that for mixing color pigments for example lipgloss or for diy candles
Hi, great video.. :) I'm a newbie in resin world. Recently I'm trying to make coaster with resin and draw some flower petals with liquid pigment on clear resin yet they turn out to be all white, the pattern's gone. I dont know why they didnt stay.. would you give me some advice? Thanks 🙏
Resin doesn't usually stay put, as the chemical reaction takes places the resin is in a constant state of movement. I'd probably recommend putting a layer off resin, let it cure, then paint on the flowers, and do another layer.
Great video thank you!
can you do the petri technique with acrylic inks? also, is the white color different then the others?
Love it I want to do this
i have only used mica powders and my resin came out boldly colored. amazon has great options for small mica colors that come in bags
Yes they do! i am going to work on a new video including pigment powders :)
Nice video! Where did u get the bears molds?
Because I like the vibrant colors that are like see-through that jelly like color like you were talking about them but I have been using food coloring it does the same thing but I don’t think that the food coloring mix is very well and you have to makes it a lot for it to be more normal
Hi, your video is soo good and helped me with what kind of pigments and that stuff. Also I was wondering where you got the gummy bear molding?
Thank you! It should be in the description- ali express
I use a different brand of acrylic paint and it leaves flecks and chunks of unmixed paint. If I don't clean my mold afterward, the next product also has white specks.
Yes I've noticed some acrylics do that
I love that you added magnets to the little bears. At what stage did you put them in? I worry that if I put them on too soon, they'll just sink to the bottom of the mold.
I let it set completely! Then i glued the magnets on and added a tiny layer of clear resin to hold it on
Hey ,can we use thermocol type material in resin art?
Also for the dirty pour one, I think your resin might be too thin so that's why you didn't really see the effect. Maybe wait til the resin is almost at the end of its pot time and then pour the resin into each other in the cup and then pour it into the mold. That's at least what I do. :)
Ahh okay... i think maybe there wasn't a lot of pigment in the mica so you couldn't see it very well
Hi, thank you for this video. I'm a beginner at this and I've been watching as many you tube videos on the subject as I can. I haven't purchased any resin or colours yet. I was wondering if you could tell me what brand of resin you used and do you use a heat gun to blow out any bubbles that might have been caught up in the resin when it was poured into the mould.
Hey, just check out my description! I link everything i use there 😊
@@SeriouslyCreative hello can I use uv resin pigment inks for normal epoxy
So when coloring resin what are the measurements, like is it each color gets their own a&b cup
Did you put accelerator/catalyst in to your resin? I didn't see it. Will it set without accelerator/catalyst?.
I absolutely love your channel! I have a question tho. When I use clear resin, it always gets a little yellowish a few days after I pour it, even though I don't let my pieces on the sunlight. Do you know what could cause that?
Hey, thanks! I have no idea I've never had that issue... it might be just the brand of resin?
A lot of resins yellow, find a brand that stays clear. I've heard 1:1 ratio resin is best for clarity and that resin with extra hardener/fast cure resins yellow more. I am newish to resin work though so that info is from research not from experience, I use "art 'n glow" resin and have never had yellowing.
Wonderful video.. 🙏
Thank you so much 🥰
🤗🧡🤗love this
Thank you.
Can I use soap making liquid colour in resin art?
Great video thanks! Where do you get your moulds from?
Its in the description, i also have a whole video on all my molds 💖
Thats cool
if you paint epoxy resin with acrylic will it stay see through?
What brand of resin do you use and ratios? I've been trying to get it right for awhile now but anytime I use dye my resin doesn't harden properly and I've just given up.
question: do you reuse your plastic cups for other resin projects/ can you clean them? or do you always use a new one?
I try to use silicone or flexible plastic cups so i can peel out the resin and reuse them 😊 i also use plastic spatulas that a reusable
So you can mix it with anything that has color?
So say if ur using the first droplets of colours, can't think what they're called. If u don't want them 2 mix 2gether and it does what do u do?
The video this question came to mind for had the comments turned off so. If the resin doesn't cure right and we end up with a gummy piece, are we able to just throw it away?
Can I use poaster and oil paint in resin mixture
Hi dear, can you mis with other colors to fix it
u did add the hardener to the risen right ??
what’s the brand for the resin pigment ink on ebay ? can’t find them
hello, what resin are you using? because it looks a bit liquid and the one i use is very thick, i use the 1:1 casting resin :)
Also, in 7:00 the white ink is alcohol ink?
Question; What resin do you use? As I noted when you mixed your it didn’t get any bubbles in it!
I was using Barnes epoxy cast and now i use Just Resin. Both brands are really good for minimal bubbles.
Hi would alcohol inks work in uv resin also please x
Hurry up!!
Can you link where you got your bear molds
I tried putting clear resin in a mold then doing drops of the epoxy resin color liquid stuff and it won’t cure! Someone please help me! What do I do to fix it or what did I do wrong?
What was the stuff in the cup ? Because I’m about to make one right now I realy need help 😭
a nice and useful video , thank you ^_^
You're welcome 💖💖💖
I like how the acrylic ones turned out. They blended so well! Anyway, do you change your mixing ratio when you color your resin? My resin cures fine if it's clear but whenever I use pigments, they cure really soft you can bend them. It's weird that I am only having this problem lately, like before, my resin would take two or three days to harden with pigment but not it just won't hard cure at all 😞 but I am using exactly the same resin and the same pigment. Maybe it's the resin and pigment ratio or something?
Hmm yeah maybe you're adding too much pigment? I also find if my room is too cold it won't cure properly so sometimes I'll run a heater for the first few hours to speed up the curing process
I wonder if those ink can be used on fabrics
Can you use soap pigment?
