Frontal Impact takes place at 64 Km/h, 40% of the width of the car striking a deformable barrier. In the side impact, a mobile deformable barrier impacts the driver's door at 50 km/h. In the pole test, the car tested is propelled sideways at 29km/h into a rigid pole. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
The airbag is from 1990's Christmas Simpsons, Homer crashed, and when he walked away, airbag deployed xD
timestamp?
@Ashley Cook ?
@@szpecunio Are you dumb? See the video
thats scary, the airbag came a little late.
In mine it didn't go off at all lol
@@Alexander_l322 When was the crash, how old was the airbag ?
This shit honestly makes me paranoid of my old car's airbag not deploying. I outta replace it some time.
my airbag light in the dash lit up for no reason and won't go off :D
@@xq39 You should. I've seen many crashed E36's and in like 90% of the time the airbag didn't deploy
They are great cars, long live the e36 3 series :)
They are beautiful but scary how bad they perform in crashes. And imagine them now with how much they rust....
They're not that good, the E46 was a huge jump
@@lobobaltazar1322mine is 28 years old and there is no rust. Maybe because I clean it every two weeks. If you don't care about your car, no wonder there is much rust
@@KarlMai-xc1tg True, also climate and salt on the road or being near the sea ofcourse. I live near sea and my E90 is pretty much rust free except on the differential and some part I dont know how to say in english. But some guys I know with e34 etc they had to scrap cars due to rust.
@@lobobaltazar1322 I live in the middle of Germany. There is no ocean and salt is only in few weeks in the year on the road. Last winter only few days
It's an old car, what do you expect? i drive older generation model (e30) daily, and my advice is, don't crash.
What's the rating btw
@@prajwalhatte1281 1 star in 1997, invalidated today (0 stars). One of the worst performances in NCAP history, only the Rover 100 and Citroen Xantia performed worse.

@@toxy3580 hoooooooooly
It's appalling, the Mondeo did so much better, came out 1 year later. Death Box
Imagine having one without airbags! Oh wait I do..
Me too 🥹
You're dead either way in a crash like this.
Its not THAT bad, last year i survived a frontal crash in my e36 1995 touring! I hit a tree at 100kph with no airbags and only broken my nose, 3 ribs, left leg… 78 stitches in right arm 😅
And after that i bought another e36!
1995 compact with GLORIOUS m42b18 ❤
@chris jones Yeah, you know better than me what happened.
@chris jones yes, it runned perfectly on water, blood and other liquids (: But unfortunately… not on bored people thoughts ;--(
@chris jones so yeah, its definitely not for you cuz u know, petrol is really expensive nowadays :--(
Nice tale, it didn't happen though.
Yeah the car is not that bad i Had frontal crash with another car (Toyota Rav 4) and the e36 held pretty well im with broken leg only the crash speed is a ot 80kmh for both cars
Simir Gerghan alive every crash with this car at Cobra 11
lukas baborák yea
Lukáš Baborák what speed was that ?
I think He is crashing E46

The airbag deployed way too late. EuroNCAP showed how much the manufacturers still a long way to improve car safety. Now the 3-series gets a five star safety rating and it is the safest car in its class according to the EuroNCAP.
Yeah, pre 92-95 designs really were death traps.
this car was designed in the late 80's, and launched in the early 90's. it met all the safety requirements of that time, plus manufacturers didnt have the super computers we have today. the e36 will never do well in NCAP tests, because the NCAP didnt exist in its time. today, car manufacturers specifically design their cars so that they will do well in the NCAP.
The Mondeo was designed at the same time, it did much better than this.
You are aware the 2CV passed the tests you're referring to? 😂
The e36 was designed in 1986-1989 and launched in 1990... Its a very good result.
NO!
No, it's poor.
that airbag was such a fail :))
@BugThorn
No, the crash testet car was a 93 bmw with fl indikators but only one airbag. Look at the headlights, there are the old headlights on that testet car. Take a look at the Airbag, there only one airbag steering wheel in this car. And its the big old steering wheel with no color BMW emblem. This system have their sensors placed over the front wheels. The last e36 have 4 airbags...Bmw updated the airbags too
I got a 92 e36 with no airbag! Oh well, I still love if it does want to kill me!
❤
That thing folded like an accordion!!!
I really want a role cage now... :/ After seeing those side-impact hits, I *REALLY* want NASCAR-style door bars too lol
i got hit in the side on a parking lot - maybe 20kph - frame dented, door wouldnt open etc.. the car became unsafe to drive. Its a death trap by todays standards but id buy one again, they just look too good LOL
@@MaffiLu Man that's really scary, but yeah why do they have to look so good 😂
for all those who ask go to euroncapdotcom to see, the car is rated at 1.5 stars, and there's very little difference between the inline 4 engine and the V6, either ways you're dead
@jimakosgian26 no, i pulled this list from euroncap official site, and i posted it on the 1997 cars crash test clips
@0DaLegend9 E36 for life!
Yeah that's true, and it is an awesome car! :D
@beradlles how did u roll it?
yeah, the airbag was like "so how is your da...OH SH?T WE CRAS... ah, nevermind, so how is your day?"
this reminds me of Giorgi Tevzadze 🥺
😢
Reminds me of Goggsi Bollar!
I saw many real crashes with E36 involved and even with the cab collapsed the passengers were ok so it sounds fine to me.
I recently rolled over in mine at 80kph and not a Single scratch. Literally

@DamnSweetThing1100
97 is almost the end the life cycle of E36, it does not make sense to overhaul the chassis. Since E46 came out in 1999, E36 will be the it is as ever. As a Chinese, I found very amusing what ADAC and German media press after Brilliance Auto crash test. :) Did not take long for me to fish this clip out.
Well... At least it is safer thn the rover 100
This car was a 1991 bmw 3 serien, but this 1991 3series was testet in 1997. Its not a 1997 3 series. This car has lens in his headlights an no passanger airbag. The 3 series in this test have his airbag sensors over the front wheels. The younger e36 have the airbag sensors under the bank in the fond (in the middle)
For a 1991 sedan its a still good result
No, Mondeo much safer
Somebody has the video off a rollover crash during a E36 Touring demonstration? Thanks
@nwobhmrobert
....I can see fl grills, but the lights are from a 93 e36 and have lens...and there s no passanger airbag.
Im from germany and my 97 e36 have 4 Airbags;-),
But anyway take notice that this is the oldest car from all tested in ncap.BMW started producing E36 in 1990
The Xantia is older, the Primera is two years older, and did quite well. You're just making excuses
I have one with no airbag but i only use it on circuit at drifting
just dont crash it.. easy!
yes,but same idiot crash you..so is not depent to us
Survivable but RIGHT ON THE LIMIT
The car was at the end of the level where it protected the driver.. Even a slightly more server accident would be fatal for the driver.
@SilverKPECT
You can think that if it makes you feel better ;)
Note to self: do not crash m3. Will feel it in the morning
I know many drivers who crashed with it and survived "easily". Tests are only tests after all
Many more died though, not safe AT ALL.
@@user-sf7kl9uh7kyou are such a depressing person

It actually wasnt that bad
@Matthew Dawood Khaghani why do you have to get so mad? Anyway what was the star rating?
@Henry Discipline no it wasn't, it a sub 2000's vehicle. It's actually quite good.
@@mohamad-q8sStop repeating names, it's actually considered harassment.
I guess it's not that bad since that's crashing into something that doesnt move, but when you crash into another car, the other car will move a bit, making a less crashy crash
This simulates hitting another car head on, each car doing 30 mph.
well....my country has a lot of ditches.........
ugh ill just buy a volvo
Lucas Kroon You do know that BMW engineers of the time were laughing at how bad Volvos fared back then?
@@Petrospect Stop lying you moron. In 1997 Euroncap tested the Volvo S40, which was the competition of this car in the same class, and the Volvo got the best points of any car that year, 12 points for frontal crash test compared to 3 points for the BMW.
because of your first comment, "BMW - The ultimate killing machine." it should refer to E36, not BMW :P

To bad no side chest airbags and side curtain airbags and passenger airbag
Look too for the e39 before and after weld spots updating, there are two videos on youtube. I have many prospects and lekture about the e36 and there are pictures and a lot to read about these updates. Many german cars from the 90" have weld spots updates after facelift or before.....they updated thear cars continuerly to sell high tech cars and not only 7 Year old models at the end of the produktion Greetings Munich
Still poor
I wonder what engine was there 1.6l? because if you'd have 2.0l or 2.5l OR 2.8l plate engine I doubt that car would crush so hard like that with a head to head impact
It makes no difference, the engine is designed to break away and slide under the car.

unless the brake system/ABS system had fail, or the driver does not brake at all, or accelerated impact.
cabrios and coupes are stiffer in longitude , weaker in torsion and should be safer in frontal colisions, but worse in side impacts
Cabrio likely better in both.
The cab was much safer

@UHF43 LOL I was just thinking that.
don't be rude. BMWs got decent results at crash tests, e36 was introduced in 1990...
Rude?
One fatal flaw with this car is because the airbag fired late, it could suffocate the driver since his head forward well before it fired!
@DoogieDarwel I'm still driving this kinda car with only 2 air bags in front, so I'm kinda worried ;D and I think the bigger engine provides more safety :) no?
the 1990-2000 BMW 3 Series was assembled in
Munich, Germany
Toluca, Mexico
Cairo, Egypt
Greer, South Carolina, United States
@DamnSweetThing1100 AND ????
The Construction is same for E36 all years , its old construction .... E46 have changed (maybe new)construction
In this car you dont need airbag, because the steering wheel was kill you totally.
And if this car have bigger engine (2.8) the crash is worst ...
Dont crash i say !! Beacause this is nice and very good handling car with balls. ...
Well i own an E36 as well..used to have an airbag..now gone ever since the momo wheel came on...still just don't crash or attempt left foot braking during highspeed...once fishtail..good sail to hell
Mine broke loose on a calm (not rev-matched) downshift, so be aware of that too. It was snowing though

No, it's a death trap,.grow up.
@gtafan94 If two cars hit eachother the impact-speed will be doubled up, wich i would say; you wont have legs anymore in that BMW.
If 2 cars hit eachother front-front in 60 km/h, it would be like hitting a "immovable" object in 120 km/h or depending on the weight of the other car
@Henry Discipline 10 years later I'm a little older, a little wiser, and what you say is of course correct. Energy and momentum can be quirky sometimes. :)
According to the crash test material on these bmw e36, the impact material was a solid metal block which was not design to absorb impact, and it is a fixed stationary machine used to destroy something,
unless the bmw e36 hit on the armor vehicle (tank) or big tractor?, bus, lorry?.
but in real traffic accident, it will involve with vehicle vs vehicle crash, and both vehicle will bounce away during the impact. that the vehicle is design to absorb impact force,
Absolute BS, all of it. Grow up
