In today's video, Chuck continues the video series on making a belt pouch. This series will show how to make the pouch from start to finish, spending some extra time on tools and materials that can be used in your shop to aid in your leatherworking. In this fifth video, Chuck shows the dyeing, antiquing, and top coat process for each piece. Chuck uses the dip dye method for this pouch but also shows some alternate dyeing and coloring options.
Join us next week for Chapter 6 where Chuck shows how to assemble the belt pouch!

Hey Chuck! I just wanted to say, you talking about lawyers and accountants on Wednesday was really great advice. I’m fairly new to leather craft but I’ve been going to renaissance fairs all my life and making things for them but Ive always wanted to be more involved in the community. So after listening to the live stream, I decided I wanna start my own shop, it’s a ways off and a lot of hard work but I have a lot of Support at home and it feels like I’m finally going down the right path. So I just wanted to say thanks for lighting a fire under my butt and inspiring me to push myself 👍

You're the reason I order from Weaver rather than Tandy

I wish this could have been available a couple days ago. Haha. I am new at dying and antiquing leather and had a strap project with a deadline. I'd watched what videos I could find about dying but this one is so much more clear about the best practice steps. Thanks!

Hey Chuck! This might have been addressed in a previous video, but is there any possibility you could do a tutorial on how to crease leather? I'm new to leather working and I'm going to jump into making a set of armor for larping. Thank you for all the content, your videos make leather working seem way more approachable and they're so easy to watch for a few hours!

I don't know how well it would work on leather, but aerosol hairspray works pretty well for getting ball-point ink out of clothing, depending on how bad the ink stain is.

I need to see how Chuck dyes/finishes large projects. Something like a messenger bag perhaps 🤔

A lot of leather worker use one or two coats of tan coat before using antique coat. Giving the leather less a darker color and emphasizes the design more. Do you do this on some of your work. Once I started doing that I enjoyed antique much more.

Chuck, I hope you look back and can answer this.
Will the Leather Balm work on water based dye's? Meaning, will it melt the color and pick up some of the dye?
When I got back into leather crafting some years back the competitor coaxed me into water based products. Mainly because I am concerned about our World and keeping it clean.
But I have come to realize that water based products don't preform as expected, or as the competitor said they would. I have more finishing problems than I care to talk about.
I am going to eventually switch over to all Fiebings Pro Dye's and finishing products. It's just going to take time because I'm on such a limited budget being disabled.
So if the Leather Balm will work over water based dye's, it would be a great place to start the conversion over to Pro Dye's so I can rid myself of all the finishing problems I have.
Thank You Kindly for your time Chuck, and all the help you give us Leather Crafters!

Hey Chuck, is there a way to do a tutorial about the neutral antiquing with the paint color. when you mentioned that and showed off the Sample with the purple in it, this was exactly what I want to do with a future project of mine, but the concept is escaping me.

      Hi Gary,
Chuck uses a 2:1 ratio of Neutral Antique finish to Angelus Paint when using this product. You may need to adjust this a little bit to get your desired color but it's as simple as that! Just apply it to your leather like you would a normal antique finish. Here is a video where he explains it a bit more: czcams.com/video/V-cC3BdqTJk/video.html

If I use resist on leather that I antique will something like resolene only work on the parts that are antiqued or will it also work on the parts that have resist on them?

If you have the fortitude to grab some of your wife's makeup sponges they make excellent applicators for the leather balm.
