    I wouldn't criticize too much, because Meade is just giving an overview. All manuals are on line and can be downloaded for free, and I always read the manuals before I buy. It's a lot of fun and it explains set up in detail. What amazes me about the ETX125 is how much equipment you get for a few hundred dollars. The only Achilles Heel is the nylon gearing in the ETX125. I suspect that if you go easy on the slewing rate, even the nylon gears will last a long time, as in 10+ years.

    Unfortunately no mention of the fact that you have to have the scope tube horizontally level and pointed directly north (either magnetic or true) BEFORE you start the alignment procedure. For an instructional video that's a major error making it all useless.

    For my etx 60 I have to point it north and level the telescope after leveling the base it's on. (Tripod)
    Tell it where its at and EXACTLY what time it is. To get exact time reboot your cell phone. It matters. I think the ppl.that have trouble are either not setting the correct time, correct location, or they never set the telescope to due north and level. It aligns itself quite well.

    • @chrisscibelli5654
      @chrisscibelli5654 Před 3 lety

      Agreed. They never used the compass or leveler. Why include it if it's not important?

  • @alfredoduraningenieroscons60

    Excellent video. I live in a city at 10° North latitude, how can I configure this latitude on the latitude rod on the tripod? Thanks in advance!

    hello to all..please which is the software for my etx90ce??

  • @ganjinfly
    @ganjinfly Před 4 lety +4

    How to align the tripod, I realized. The manual says that when targeting by the stars, you must align the telescope itself (horizon and north). It says set the telescope so that the vertical scale was at zero. But the disk with the scale (him can be clearly seen at 4:36), when not clamped, turns independently of the telescope. That is, it can be set as you like and the scale will be arbitrarily shifted. For some reason, here in the video nothing is said about it. If you only align the tripod, then the telescope itself will not find the north and will not align with the horizon either. The compass is well inserted in the place for the eyepieces. Probably inserting it there and you need to align?

    • @AlexSanchez-ke5ve
      @AlexSanchez-ke5ve Před 4 lety +1

      Yes; instructions show here are incomplete, telescope must be in home position, leveled and aligned with north; true or magnetic. I have been issues too for alignment in my etx90, would be good if you could share with me your experiences on this procedure. Maybe we could get that our etx90 do their job. Kind regards.

    • @mikeries8549
      @mikeries8549 Před 4 lety +1

      This little detail is not well explained but if you go online and seek help it's there. The controller basically says, 'set it to zero' and nobody understands. My telescope came used without instructions so I had to look it up. Aligned perfectly the first try. Details....

    • @mikeries8549
      @mikeries8549 Před 4 lety +1

      @@AlexSanchez-ke5ve it helps to use the smart phone. Look up true north correction from magnetic and you'll find where you click a button and a compass pops up that points true north. Use that to aim north when you set up.
      For me I'm about 3.5 degrees off if I use magnetic. Makes a difference

    • @mikeries8549
      @mikeries8549 Před 4 lety

      At first it's frustrating how long it takes to focus. Try using your whole hand to gently roll the focus wheel. I get two revolutions per cycle that way. There's a,lot of fiddling. I've found that starting out with the tube short and a 25mm eyepiece is the way to go.
      Move up to a 10mm eyepiece and you need to make the tube longer.
      Keep trying. Another tip is when things are out of focus they get big and fuzzy. A star in focus gets teeny and sharp pin prick.
      Have fun..
