My friend was really excited to show me his new deck so we played. He played and sacced Ashnod's Coupon, when i got back from filling up his water bottle he had taken out his sideboard and 15 Cheatyfaces were covering his side of the board. The most entertaining game of magic i've ever played.

The Chaos Confetti reminded me of back when Inquest would sometimes put in oversized cards so you could enjoy the art. They where always careful to put “not legal for play” on the backs because at the time, cards only had to have proper backs, to allow for proxy’s. This was added after some clown tried to play one of the oversized cards.
That card... a giant Chaos Orb.

Another thing: a variant of the urban legend we had in Scandinavia was that the judge first allowed it - but then afterwards ruled that the orb player now had a marked card in his deck (the torn orb was now marked) so he was disqualified after the resolution of the orb confetti. I remember believing the story as a kid.

I liked the Dice Roll Cards like Jack-in-the-mox or the Goblin Tutor. Back in the Days the Tutors were a big thing. Demonic Tutor, Vampiric Tutor and Enlightened Tutor were the most famous. But having a Tutor, that forces you to play such a variance of cards to have a use for every outcome is pretty amazing of a card.
Same goes for the Jack-in-the-mox. You have to plan your turn upon the outcome of the mox, not the other way around.

Hi there - new to the channel- I appreciate the content :)
Just an FYI in 93/94 we do flip chaos orb. And it only works if it does at least a 360 flip from at least 1 foot above the target. It destroys any card it hits - but only one card now. back in 93/94 players put their permanents all over the place as you mention- as orb destroyed any and all cards it touched back then.
So it’s still a dexterity exercise - and can still get the blood pumping at a tournament - silly as it is lol
    It is restricted though.

I really like the Double cards. They're cards that have a fairly simple effect (for example, Double Dip has "gain 5 life"), but then they give you the same effect during the next game of Magic you play with that person.
I like them because they actively reward playing Magic more often.

  • @ScribeAwoken
    @ScribeAwoken Před 7 lety

The whole idea behind B.F.M being one creature split across two cards is actually pretty interesting since the Pokemon TCG actually did the same thing at one point. During the HeartGold & SoulSilver Series (Pokemon's equivalent of Blocks), they introduced a bunch two-part cards called LEGENDs, each depicting either a single legendary pokemon or a pair of legendary pokemon with a connection to each other. In play, they're treated as a single card (since you can only have one active Pokemon at any given time), but when they're not in play, they're treated as two cards with the same name, so they take up two slots in your bench and you can only have two full pairs in your deck.
All of them except Ho-oh and Lugia are also dual-type, something exceedingly rare in the TCG - nowadays, you'll usually see less than a dozen dual-types in a given Series, if any, though they used to be far more prevalent back during the Ruby & Sapphire Series.

My favorite Unglued card is The Ultimate Nightmare of Wizards of the Coast Customer Service. Cost XYZRR, but has a blue border, and the parchment-style text box black cards had. Deals X damage to each of Y target creatures and Z target players. The flavor text is the then-current phone number and hours of operation of the organization in the card title. It sort of inspired Rolling Thunder later on, if I recall correctly. Honorable mentions: Common Courtesy, the basic lands.

So, funny story about Ashnod's Coupon-- in college a friend of mine played the Coupon against another guy at our table and told him to go get him a Pepsi, so the guy left the table to go find a Pepsi. The funny part was our campus didn't have Pepsi products, only Coke products! He was gone for over 25 minutes before coming back and admitting he couldn't find a Pepsi. While he was gone, we just decided to skip over his turns and ultimately kill him. The best part was the bewildered look on the guy's face, then frustration when he found out we killed him, then finally a big laugh for the ridiculousness that was Ashnod's Coupon. I loved Unglued, I hope they do another set like it someday!

You forgot to mention that the that time of the urban legend, a near-mint Chaos Orb was a high valued card at $100, which makes the story much more incredible.
As for Unglued, I sadly did not complete my set (I have 5 cards missing), but I certainly have some favorites:
The Ultimate Nightmare of the Wizards of the Coast(r) Customer Service - A red sorcery, with a blue border and a text area normally found on a black card, costing two red, and X, Y and Z. And yes, the title was so long it was printed along the left and top side, with the mana cost on the right side of the artwork. It deals X damage to each of Y target creatures and Z target players... A wink to Revised's reprint of Serendib Efreet, that were _all_ printed with the artwork and border from the Ifh-Biff Efreet, making it a blue card with a green border. It was also a reference to Ice Age's Meteor Shower, a card with two X's in the casting cost. Both cards were often misinterpreted, and Wizards' customer service had their hands full with them.
My second pick is the Infernal Spawn of Evil. A 7/7 flying/first strike black creature which could damage your opponent by showing it from your hand and saying "It's coming!". But the real kicker was that even though this was Magic's most evil sounding creature ever, the image showed a nice winter scene with a big cute friendly rodent with a scarf and a cup of steaming hot cocoa with marshmallows.
Finally I want to mention Miss Demeanor, a 3/4 flying, first strike "Lady of Proper Etiquette" for a white and 3 colorless, which required you to compliment each of your opponents on their gameplay during their turn, or you had to sacrifice it. I've never seen a crowd of 15-year-olds struggle so much to be nice to eachother when we allowed this to be played in our store :)

I made a card that countered a spell the turn after it was played. It essentially undid everything that that spell did, such as if it was a creature and had attacked with haste and trample, killed one of my creatures, and dealt me damage, then I would, on my turn, cast this, my creature would return, I would undo the damage dealt, and the creature would be kaput. The best part is that it was a sorcery.

Regarding your comments on Hurloon Wrangler, "not as powerful as it used to be" is a phrase that can be accurately applied to a LOT of older cards. Remember when slivers first came out? A well built sliver deck was danged near unstoppable in casual play. These days a well built sliver deck is about as functional as any other well built theme deck.

I will make this point every time Bronze Calendar is discussed - the card asks you to *strain* your voice. Like what a colander does.

I think the lands should've been included with or instead of the tokens. They were just as much, if not more, of a hit, and are still going for at least $5 each
