    Another great video, Gary! Private relay and its security features is worth the time spent watching this lesson alone. Thank you so much for helping to make my iphone so much more secure!

    The "Erase after 10 failed attempts" is very good.
    But don't tell some people about it, like a girl-friend who might become an ex, a jealous wife who thinks you might have something nefarious on your phone, a crazy brother, etc. because they might grab your phone and willfully enter 10 wrong passwords!!!
    Otherwise, a great video, as always!!

    How I look forward to your videos and I share them with the aging-in-place community seniors I help with their Apple devices. My question: will setting a SIM PIN protect us from sim-swapping attacks? Thanks.

      Yes. If someone steals the SIM, they can't use it without the PIN.

      On the iPhone, go to Settings>Phone>Silence Unknown Callers and toggle the button on. If some one needs to talk to you, they will leave a message, although some of the unknown callers will leave messages as well, but your phone won't ring.

    should two factor authentication go in the security video?

    • @macmost

      Two-factor is a way to protect your online accounts. You should definitely use it wherever it is available. For this video I was focusing on protecting your iPhone.

      It doesn't. It erases, but is still locked to your Apple ID. Only you with your Apple ID can reset it and use it.

    Hi Gary, I need your help. I am searching for some information but I could not found. I run on my MacBook Pro 16 the apps MainStage from Apple and MAir (it is the controler for an Audiomixer from Midas (model MR18) it connects to the mixer trough the wifi) If I run the MAir not in Background, it works perfectly, But if I want to look what I am doing in the MainStage, after some minutes the mixer disconect to the the App MAir. I guess the Macos try to save energy or CPU or Wifi if the App is not on the screen, and it couses the disconection. do you know how can I change that the App MAir receive continualy the wifi signal, no matter if it is in use on screen or not? Thanks!!!

    Hi Gary. Back in a day you've made a great video on how to organise your photos in the Photos app. I wonder if you can think of a way to open view and organise random JPG files in a local folder. Is it possible to use the Photos app to do it? If not what would you suggest to do instead? Thx.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  Před 2 lety

      You can bring them into Photos if you like, but if you want to keep them separate as files then just organize into folders like you would with any files.

    Gary, your videos have enhanced my Mac skills beyond belief. Thank you! I have a question: using the shortcuts app I am now able to open many websites and documents at the single click of a button, which makes lesson preparation incredibly efficient and effective. I am teacher and my kids always love to see my empty desktop fill up with everything that we are going to cover over the course of the lesson in literally 3 seconds. The only tweak I want to make is to run a script prior to opening any given url within the shortcut to ensure that I am signed into the relevant website(s). Is this something that can be done with scripting within the shortcuts app?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  Před 2 lety

      I can't think of any way for Shortcuts to know which sites you are logged into, sorry.

    • @ryanhaynes9498

      @@macmost Thanks for replying.
      With the shortcut I have the following, for example:
      URL
      Run AppleScript with URL
      on run {input}
      tell application "Google Chrome" to activate
      tell application "Google Chrome" to open location input
      end run
      Thereafter, I'm at the login page.
      I would really love a script to input my username and password automatically after opening the location input. Should I shelve the idea? I appreciate your thoughts/comments.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  Před 2 lety

      @@ryanhaynes9498 That's going to be very difficult to do. If you are using Chrome's password manager, you should be able to log in with that without much trouble. Or, just don't log out of whatever it is you are trying to access.

      @@macmost Thanks for getting back to me, Gary. The website I use Chrome for doesn’t really require all of this. Chrome just inputs my details with another click and I’m pretty much where I need to be. Safari likewise via the touch ID is very fast in that respect but the websites I use have a rapid timeout across the board - I cannot stay logged in beyond 10/15 mins. And it’s an issue because I might have 3 different pages/resources that I need open within any given portal and unless I am recently signed in, opening the URL just takes me to the login page each time. When this happens, oftentimes the URL is forgotten. I end up navigating the site from the bottom level, wasting time in three separate windows/tabs. Perhaps I would be better opening up just one window with the login page and giving myself time to input the details via touch ID, then (after a delay) display a list with active links to the specific URLs that I want to nail down. I’m gonna keep tinkering.
      And it's thanks to you that I am able to do so. 👍🏼

    Will running off "USB Accessories" not prevent the phone being connected to a Mac for backup and restore purposes? I don't believe an iCloud backup saves all of the Health Data which can be done with a computer backup as long as the backup is encrypted.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  Před 2 lety

      That feature only turns it off for someone who doesn't know the passcode to unlock it. For you, it doesn't prevent anything.

    Hi Gary, another grata video. What do you think has better security, the passcode or the face ID feature. How reliable s the face ID feature.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  Před 2 lety

      You use both. If you have FaceID, definitely use it. Since it can be used most of the time, you can now make your passcode longer without it being too inconvenient to enter. That's the whole idea.
