Adding another comment mid Video: Menu "R Shunt" is to calibrate Current measurement Shunt Resistance of PCB Trace, What you refer to as a Low Pass Filter is the Selection of the Band Module in Place (Alternative Band Modules possible). And at Minute 27:00, you use an external Tool to translate dbm into S-Meter. Easier would be so go to Menu and Change it from showing dbm into S Value or Bar, or whatever you prefer ;)

I ordered a (tr)usdx and plan on attempting to pair it with a digirig mobile. No information available for this online that I've been able to find. Any information on attempting to run digital modes?
At 35:10 ff you´re exactly right: The speaker was added last minute and was thought of as an "emergency solution" rather than a serious speaker.
The spkr on my KX3 is not that good either, so I always use earphones or a small capsule spkr like yours with it. But I wish they had made it compatible with some common spkr-mic.
I was specifically waiting for this video, as I had been eyeing the completed radio at the DL2MAN approved sellers! Thank you so much for all the time you put into this. It was the length of a TV show episode! Excellent! Just want to show some appreciation! Off to order the radio!

Noting that this video is now a year old, the new kits are pre-programmed, and the mic sounds much better than what you experienced. The only specialist things that you will need to build a kit is a VNA, a 3d printer and a dummy load. Everything else is optional. I feel like DL2MAN and PE1NNZ have listened to all of the comments out there and have made the necessary changes. Really impressive radio. I have 2! A premade standard kit and a classic band kit. The new beta firmware now has a frequency scope! Seriously cool. Amazing how much functionality they put into it. Thanks for the video
Nice Video, I have two from the 1st UK group buy and both work great. I have had one ticking over for digital modes using FT8,FT4 and JS8Call for over two months without issue. Look for me on 40mtr or 20mtr as its surprised me how well it is working. Look forward to the next 73 Ellis M5AEI

Great video - fun project and result.
The truSDX is an impressive design but there are a few small issues that need resolution. Some builders notice high SWR and excessive power readings in transmit. Unfortunately the designers missed the 328P datasheet note concerning the design of ADC input circuitry. Paragraph 23.6.1 states that the ADC driving impedance should not exceed 10K to guarantee accurate readings for all 328Ps. The truSDX design lacks pull-down resistors on the FWD and RVS ADC inputs for impedance control, and thus is susceptible to pin leakage currents and ADC channel crosstalk. It's the luck of the draw whether yours is OK without pulldown resistors. Mine was not. Some members of the forums have suggested changing R5 and R6 to 1K, and C29 and C31 to about 100K or whatever high value you can get away with. This worked for me with C39 and C31 = 2.2meg. If you do this mod the RF power will read 10% to 20% low. Fixing this will need a calibration constant to be added to the firmware. Oh, by the way, the FWD and RVS signals are reversed on the Rev 1.0 Nov. 2021 board silkscreens. Yep, they fixed it in software.
There also is another small issue to be fixed. The Audio output signal has a strong 80kHz component from the PWM technique used for the audio output. This may cause amplified loudspeakers to draw excessive current. Mine pulls 250mA at higher volumes. I added a small R-C filter at its input to prevent this.
All in all, an impressive design and a lot of fun. Tnx and 73's, N2GX

I used a built one purchased from DL2MAN's recommended Chinese supplier on a SOTA activation today (20m and 40m SSB). Used a little plug-in USB-chargeable speaker, which was a big improvement over the internal one. I'll use ear buds next time. Looking forward to seeing some recommendations. Some of the QSOs were hard work but I didn't get complaints about my audio quality.

Hi Josh. Enjoyed the videos. I will need your video to get my unit going again. Built mine worked first go , it had all the software pre loaded life was looking good. . Whilst 3D printing the case and fitting parts for fit to the PCBs I made the cardinal mistake of leaving the power plugged in . Those interconnecting pin headers came loose and next thing the smoke escaped from some of those multi legged fuses on the board. My heart just sunk with a lot of rude words. I found a hole in the MCU chip, the game was over. Like you I am now waiting for my re purchased unit and the other bits so I can harvest the replacement chips. So far three are confirmed kills and more casualties I guess when I have replaced the dead bits.
Just a little humerus story of what can go wrong when your just toooo cocky in your abilities. I do this stuff for a living over the past 40 years. @#%$ happens.

yes - many kits require knowledge other than how not to poke your eye out with a screwdriver - more and more kits will require knowledge like the bootloader and firmware update, many would never have done this type of work before. New skill means new experiences.

Yes, I also noticed the fuse bits box was not selected, which it should have been selected for burning the Bootloader..

28:12 It seems like the best use of the truSDX would be weak signal protocol (WSJT etc.). 5 watts won't get very far otherwise.

@@HamRadioCrashCourse I re-read my comment and now realize it could have been taken as being negative towards the truSDX, apologies as that was not my intent. Quite the opposite - I am excited to get one of these and experiment! I am all about QRP and minimal power draw for the transceiver - I bet that I could cover my entire state with with only 4 of these using NVIS and JS8call. And they're so small with such lower power draw, it'd be a cinch to hike one of these + batteries + solar recharger into the undoubtedly remote locations required for the minimum number of nodes to cover the state. And they're so inexpensive I could actually afford it lol.
I had a SSB QSO with a guy in Spain with one of these things. Granted he has quite the antenna setup to be pulling me out.
I have had QRP to QRP QSOs from Maryland to Texas and Maryland to Florida. I haven’t setup for NVIS yet but I bet you could cover the state with one radio. I suppose that depends on the state
Note AVRDUDESS is at version 2.15 as of this comment. To program the Bootloader with an Arduino UNO as the ISP programmer, use "Arduino board as programmer using arduino as ISP firmware".

Not a great one. It is a pack in for another radio. You might be better off making one or making a new connector.
In your previous video, you said that you didn't have the correct size barrel connector to power the radio on the top. Did you make a power cable or purchase one? Does it go to power poles or another means? Thank you Josh
I bought a bunch of bare lead wires with the coaxial connector on already and add power poles. I’ll add them to the description

Josh, I ordered one of these "cute" truSDX . I powered it up with no antenna and it howled and squealed among the switching of all bands and the display would be bright and then darken and then just shut off. I have been negociating with E-bay and they said...try this, try that to no avail. I asked them if they could send me a unit that funcions and also correct my callsign in the window which was incorrect.... They have now offered me a new mainboard to install myself which for now, I have accepted...are there any difficulties that i should know about when I receive this board or is it just a simple swap and play??

Hello! Tell me please. I have only CW, SSB and LSB on this thing. There is no modulation of AM and FM in principle, neither from the quick switch with the "Enter" button, not in the menu item "1.2 Mode". Maybe there is some secret of menu settings or me need to change the firmware? Sincerely, 73!
Idk that it has AM & FM. it’s not really needed in this type of radio tbh.
@@HamRadioCrashCourse It is clear that it is not too necessary, but I am disappointed that there are no AM and FM. Wouldn't be superfluous.
On a small QRP radio, FM and AM is not very efficient or effective. I am not surprised its not there tbh.
There are older version of the firmware that has AM and FM modes, but with the limited capacity of the processor those modes were removed for other features in later and most recent versions. The latest version of firmware has a spectrum scope and audio over CAT making for a very simple portable radio for digital mode

Thanks for coming back. I have no software knowledge so the first 19 mins of the video were incomprehensible I would welcome a newbie video that explains this stuff to folks like me. The last 23 mins of the video were perfectly understandable . I have previously build six QRP transceivers from scratch (not kits)
What I learned from this immense techno-word-salad gibberish is that if my firmware ever goes down, I'm throwing my (tr)uSDX in the garbage.
Firmware is easy to upload, the boot loader however is quite the process. You may want to check out the latest firmware available it adds audio over CAT control there is even a spectrum scope display now!
But if you still decide to go the garbage route… I will pay for shipping if you are willing to throw it in a mailbox instead of garbage can
