This should cover everything you should know about Sonolus, if you have any questions, you can ask me in the comments. With this guide, you should be able to install Sonolus on both Android and iOS (sideloading and testflight), have them calibrated, and then enjoying the charts.

Sonolus is a must have app for rhythm gamers due to its flexibility. Not only can you practice and analyze charts, you can also play charts from other games, and custom charts. This makes for an excellent app for anyone who loves rhythm games. (This sounds like I asked ChatGPT to write this description but I promise I wrote this myself. I might even be an AI.)
Project SEKAI, BanDori, SIF charts are fun. They are extra fun when you get custom charts.

I’ve been trying to do TestFlight for literally a year. It’s never not said ‘this beta is full.’ 😭 so I’m screwed I guess (no sideloading possible)
They have a set schedule for open slots on TestFlight. I recommend you head over to their Discord server to see the dates (new slots are opening up very soon).

I've been playing MarbleBlue [Re:Master] on the Cyanvas Chart server and it's very difficult, even though I've lowered the speed level to 90%, maybe because I often play using my thumb and it's very difficult to adapt to using 4 or more fingers (append diff)

i’ve had to jump through so many hoops to figure this out, thank you for making a video on it!! btw, what happens when your access expires after a week (3:05)? do you have to repeat the entire process again?
I believe if you have your computer running it should be able to resign itself every week. Though to be safe you can jump into the AltStore app every 6 days to refresh the expiration date.
This video was super helpful! I got Sonolus today and have been enjoying it a lot! I've been having trouble with slides though, they're very unresponsive compared to in project sekai. ive tried adjusting the "slide quality" and "guide quality" in config, but i cant tell if its making it better or worse. Do you know what exactly it is those settings do?
hmm I'm actually not sure! I tried those just now and they don't seem to make any considerable difference in gameplay. maybe mess around with the offsets to see if the sliders improve
Thanks! I’ve been testing more with offsets and noticed the issue with the slides and holds mostly only applied to charts in the “Potato Leaves” server which wasn’t featured in this video. Have you used that server before? If so, do you know what exactly is the difference between it and the Cyanvas one? It has many good charts but the gameplay does seem a little bugged.
@@zura3962 I think Potato Leaves came earlier so that could explain why the server feels kinda lacking (in terms of features). Though Potato Leaves and Chart Cyanvas both use the same engine (PJSekai+) so I would assume the gameplay shouldn't differ too much between each other.
I think I kinda get what you mean with the sliders because they are kinda unpredictable at times, but after some adjustment with the Audio and Input Offsets it seemed to have improved a little. You can keep toggling them to see if it gets better, but if not you should definitely ask in the Sonolus Discord server if they have a solution 👌

Thank you for this tutorial! This is completely safe right? Also how much space can this take up on a phone, can it also save to the SD card?
Yep it is safe. You can expect it to take up around 200MB initially, but it will eventually scale up to a couple GBs when you play more songs. There is an Auto Clean function in the Sonolus settings so that it never exceeds a certain amount.
On my phone there is an option to save to SD card but I don't recommend it as it generally decreases performance and it doesn't really save that much storage.

Yes. I never tried Scarlet but as for my method you can still load AltStore onto your laptop and install it that way 👌

Do you mean "AltServer could not be found"? Probably has something to do with your computer not being recognized then. Are both devices connected on the same network? If it doesn't work maybe try with your device plugged in. If it still doesn't work then if you are on Windows maybe reinstall iTunes. For some reason it won't work with the Microsoft Store version. testflight invitations are handed out on a specific schedule. they aren't open now unfortunately, but you can join their discord server to get notified for future testflight availability.

Theres no need for an account anyway, you can still play sonolus without accounts

If you go to the Sonolus Settings you can play around with the Graphics settings to see if that makes a difference (Render Mode and Render Scale for example).
for the side loading method do i need to have an ipad or i can still install it on phone?

The app revokes if it isn't re-signed every week. You need to hop onto AltStore once every week to make sure the app is re-signed. Unfortunately I think you're gonna have to uninstall both apps and do it over again. It's a limitation of iOS 😔

my screen is black in every song and performance test i play, but it still registers misses and greats and stuff. my vertical stage is 0% and i dont find anyone with the same problem. do you know how to fix it?
what device do you have? i searched this up in the discord server and it seems like it's a bug on lower end/older android devices. the devs are having a bit of trouble finding a fix for it unfortunately, but hopefully it gets fixed soon. 🤞

If you have iTunes installed make sure it's running. When you plug in your device it should bring up a prompt to trust the device by entering your passcode.

How much storage does sonolus require??
On my Android it takes ~200MB. It can increase in size pretty significantly if you play more charts as Sonolus tends to store previous chart data (music, skins, effects, etc.) onto your device.
Im wondering how this would work for Ensemble Stars
Someone would have to develop a server for Ensemble Stars first. Unfortunately I don't think there is one just yet, but I hope they add it soon considering SIF (similar-ish playstyle) charts also exist.

What should I do if it says Sonolus has expired
If you can't refresh the app with AltStore you might have to completely reinstall the app again unfortunately. If you don't keep an app signed every week you lose access to the app. This is a limitation of iOS.

Is alt store safe? It’s just werid that you have to put your Apple information n stuff 😢
It's been around for years now and I've used it a couple times here and there before so it should be safe. Your Apple ID is used in order to sign the app you downloaded (in this case Sonolus). This applies to any app you sideload into your device through your computer. It might seem a little scary but it has always been reliable for me. Hopefully Apple can let us sideload apps normally in the future.

You can play charts from other games by adding different servers. You can find them in the Sonolus Discord server (link in the description). Simply copy those server links into the app like how I added the Project Sekai and Chart Cyanvas servers.
