  • Here's a list of the most useless features in geometry dash 2.2. Enjoy.

    Ok, so for free-fly, the current method takes a lot of objects to pull off well, and the camera takes a while to catch up with the ship/wave if you go up or down too fast. Rob's fixed version will take only 1 object (the original portal), and the camera should be fixed too.
    Also for the object limit removal, I would add a new object limit warning. Like if it's over 40k, we have the default warning. Maybe an orange + for 80k, or maybe another color for 120k+
    A lot of these features depend solely on how creators use them. Like the camera trigger for instance, I've seen numerous times where the camera triggers obscure the gameplay and make it cancerous to play.
    Like, they're good features, but a lot of them can only be used for specific scenarios.
    Also, 2.3 should completely rework the UI for both the editor and the actual game. No serious gameplay improvements, just accessibility options and better object management and optimization.

      you can also modify the camera control when free fly mode is activated so it was more than needed

    As a creator the random triggers is one of the best feature, you can use it for decoration like randomizing color, block design (ex: world machine) or you can use it to create new gimmick and it can be use in memory level so it's easier to make them

    Pretty sure the green portal is made for platformer, so that you can have a multi-purpose portal for potentially later in the level. In regular levels it definitely is useless.

      not entirely useless in regular levels. you could have for example a coin route which ends up changing your gravity, so when you hit the green portal you want the player to switch gravity (in 2.1 you'd have to use touch triggered toggle triggers to change the portal when the player has gone through the coin path)

    Actually the green portal didn’t even take time, a guy suggested it on discord and he took like 10 minutes to add it in. It’s also pretty handy for a multi purpose gravity portal in platformer, and in normal mode it can be used for coin routes and secrets (for example, hitting a gravity orb then going into the green gravity portal for an extra path)

    2:27 I’ll give you my take on gravity invert portals. I believe they will be helpful in platformer mode, since you can backtrack. Once you go through a gravity portal, it doesn’t undo the effect until the opposing one is passed through. The invert portal will be convenient for platform levels since you don’t have to stack 2 different gravity portals onto of eachother in order to not cheat the level. (It switches gravity if your upside down or right-side up) Hope this helps.

    i think the reason why robtop add freeroam or freefly mode is probably because recreating it using portal is pretty janky, while free cam can be freely move around without the fear of object limit from spamming portals.
    2:43 the current version forces you to go on a selected gravity, so ye
    4:47 the object warning do exist though.

    Random triggers is one of the best features imo, they improve minigame building by alot and you can use them for deco purposes like random color random text and so many other creative stuff. Also Levels like lucky draw and limbo mindcaps part would be way easier to build. All that for the price of making the recent tab even more cancerous, random trigger abuse wont affect rated levels anyway..

    Some of them have uses:
    Swingcopter;
    Already existed but its harder to use than the existing (means good for extreme demons)
    Freemode;
    •dont have to use many invisible portals
    •Less lag
    •Next part in up/down be seenable
    Green Portal;
    •Great use for levels that uses
    knowledge to complete
    •Good for demon levels
    •Platformer mode?
    New Icons:
    •Litterally 1 out of 5 will use the 2.2 icons
    •The memers?

    I am afraid I have to disagree.
    The freefly mode is way better than the way we do it in 2.1. The borders are gone and the camera is not messed up anymore. It also saves the hundreds of Objects needed for it to work.
    Same goes for the Swing. The swingcopter physics are way better than the way we do it at this point in time. It requieres less objects and you can do free fly with it. That is not possible with the dual varient of the Swingcopter.
    The random trigger will probably not be useful for most creators, but it provides util that is very useful in certain situations. Also it is good for quizes and bossfights.
    The green gravity portal is also useful, as it always flips your gravity. That could be useful for coin pathes and auto sections. The color choice is questionable but that goes for the yellow gravity portal aswell.

    To be fair to the swing copter, the current ones control TERRIBLE. The 2.2 swing copter will actually converge to a horizontal path if you spam fast enough. The best I was able to do with triggers converges to a straight, but not necessairily horizontal. Also, it's much like a wave an in it dies if it touches anything.

    Swing Copters: I agree for the most part, but it can be used for stuff like optimization, not having to require a dual portal so you can have it collide with duality, and simplicity
    Free Camera: With the new camera updates, this isn't useless. First off, the current way people create free camera is way too part heavy right now and looks ugly in the editor. It also is pretty buggy. Secondly,
    Invert Portal: Well, yeah it is a weird addition, but I do see some benefits. For speed purposes, why would you checkerboard a path with up and down portals when you could just place them all at once instantly? Also, this could be pretty creative for coin paths and interesting non-linear gameplay routing. Also, I am not so sure this was was hard to implement.
    Icons: This is not a "dumb" addition. It might be useless, but like, thats kinda the point. They aren't supposed to give you superpowers or anything.
    Random Trigger: Firstly, optimization again. Secondly, this has two main uses. Gameplay variation, and decoration. Not exactly used to make a level random chance to be able to be beaten.

    All of the things mentioned in the video’s purposes:
    Swingcopter: optimisation
    Free fly: optimisation
    Invert portal: possibly used for memory, multi path or platformer levels
    Icons: diversity and being unique
    random trigger: not to sure about this one, but because you can somehow make this in 2.1 I would consider it useful for optimisation.
    unlimited objects: you no longer need a hack to do this
    Pixel blocks: optimisation, because you can make it with a lot of objects in 2.1.

    The ship part in the new official level is such inconsistent bullshit that it caused most of the deaths i had in the level due to fps issues that RobTop did not bother fixing.

    Im pretty sure the green portals are for different gravities and platformer 2.2 features. And the ship free fly is a MUCH more convenient object less way of free roam esque gameplay, and the whole icon thing is subjective??? And swingcopters were wanted by the community, but we got impatient and started more consistently using the fake ball ones. But RobTop already implemented gameplay and added them to the game, so now we’re pissed that it’s not the same as the ball? We asked for it and are going to get it but since it doesn’t behave like the fake one we use, we’re angry? This video is really dumb at some points.

    Swing Copter is fine, since you dont have to spam hundreds of blue orbs to follow you in order to get the gamemode, is a gamemode that everyone waited for.
    Random Trigger: It will be cool for bossfights, it will make them fun and unpredictable, and a new Geometry Dash meta will exist from avoiding random objects moving to you, GD will also require reaction not only memore. Ofc this feature doesnt need to be abused, to make totally unpredictable levels.
    Green Gravity Portal: Is for platformer, at this point every creator will use the green gravity portal and will make the normal ones useless lol for regular levels
    Free Roam: You dont need to spend hundreds of portals to have it, more optimization, and better transitions, since free roam with portals feel uncomfortable.

    About the swingcopter. the only reason i would think why robtop added it or atleast some people think why it should added is because with swingcopter you can have more "spaces" to make gp of. and added it with Free Fly mode, you can make some cool mid air swingcopter gp without having to worry about the "spaces" when you're using the traditional swing.
    And also Freeroam mode (aka Free fly mode) its so much easier to do and have better camera movements compared to traditional one. and they took so much less object than having to spam the portals everywhere with a few clicks.
    And lastly about random trigger. the only thing i could think of the usages of this trigger is probably for Plat levels, or normal levels with different routes (like the ones Colon did in 2.1, or even changed the visual randomly)
    and the rest, i kinda agree tbh. especially the Green portal and Pixel blocks. after creating in GDPS 2.2 for quite a while now, they're kinda useless unless you're doing the Sneak Peek Style (Dash and Explorers, which in gdps people do this alot even to this day). for normal design, they're as useless as Rainbow blocks i would say

    so instead of just insulting you, im gonna go through everything and try to point out some things
    swingcopter: the one that already exists is super buggy and plays horrible, while ALSO requiring at least 1 block of the screen to make it work (to hide the player on the blue orbs). the new official one is needed because its way more consistent, plays better and doesnt eat up part of the screen for it to work. im not a huge fan of the swingcopter mechanic itself but the new one is definitely better than the one sary made
    freefly: the way we customly make this thing with the current editor is shit, its very unoptimized with you having to use a lot of portals which just adds up to the object count, and the camera movement is absolutely horrible, with the player being able to go out of the screen if moved too fast. the new one however, is way better, only using one object and actually giving you free room to work with, instead of just moving the ground limitations up and down, plus the camera follows the player properly
    the green gravity portal: as much as i agree that this one has no point since there are the other ones already, it can be used for memory levels or to confuse the player, or even - with the multi activation option enabled - optimize those transitions that puts a lot of gravity portals for sync purposes. either way, it does have some useful functions and its not like its gonna replace the other ones anyway, if a creator doesnt like it theyre just not gonna use it, unless they wanna, again, confuse the player (which is only bad if you have a skill issue)
    icons: i know that you said its your personal opinion and thats right, an icon being good or not is 100% subjective (unless its the blank icons top players are using now, those are ass), and it being that way, there will always be someone who likes a certain icon, so the game having thousands of icons is def cool, it gives a lot more of variety
    random trigger: the thing you said about it being able to make some cancerous gameplay is completely right, but those levels just shouldnt be rated i guess. the thing is it still has some really cool usages like randomizing different paths, decoration (like different pulse patterns...?) or designs, etc. in the end, it can be really cool when talking about visual stuff, and even if its hard to make properly, i would be also really cool and fun to make randomized gameplay that isnt a total mess and is easy to sightread. a good example of this is world machine by colon, if you havent played it already, you should totally play it
    object limit: this is already a thing with hacks, robtop is just making it official. if you go check, most of the big projects nowadays have over, and by far, 80k objects. the thing about it being unstable and laggy is completely true, though. creators should just learn how to optimize better, and rob should optimize the game obv
    pixel blocks: im pretty sure theyre gonna have their own tab on the editor, and even tho i agree on it being extremely cluttered with hundreds of objects (or even pages) in a single tab can be very overwhelming, theres no doubt that all of those can make some insanely cool designs and arts (just like how culuc makes his stuff, blending a lof of different shaped objects together). im really excited for pixel blocks, but yeah, not sure if ALL of the ones that are coming are really necessary

    Well, you can't use swingcopters in duals, so it would be interesting using the copter with other vehicle and also the free mode doesn't exist with the floating ball and also the swingcopter is more smooth too.
    About the icons depends of who you ask.
    The green portal maybe will be good for troll a little bit or for plataform levels but I wonder why Robtroll added it.

    The things that already exist that you pointed out (aside from the invert portal) is object count. Later in the video you said it would be laggy for some of the new stuff. You showed us the free roam thing for 2.1 and look at those objects! LOOK AT THEM! So yeah, that’s why i think these aren’t useless.

      And I've never understood "it already exists" argument because what we have now is not the same as it will be in 2.2. At the moment, the swing copter that we have from players is not used on a regular basis as a regular game mode and this is a significant difference.

    Swingcopter: the ability to create an easy swingcopter dual
    Freeroam: really handy addition for camera controls. I thought it also worked for duals, but I might be wrong if you insist that it "would be a good idea"
    Invert portal: While it's definitely more stupid at surface level, it's not as stupid as you may think. You could do some fun stuff with it, for example in platformer mode. But it's not that amazing of an addition or something.
    Icons: Pretty much based on opinion which ones are good and not. Not much to say here
    Random trigger: Again, platformer mode. You always seem to forget about platformer mode. It's a pretty useful trigger from that point of view.

    Removing object limit changes nothing, since anybody could already use hacks to bypass it, as they actually did in many popular levels. I mean, it's just a quality of life change, so that you don't have to use hacks.

    Actually for once I disagree in one of these features even tho all these are disappointments of 2.2.
    The one I disagree in is the unlimited blocks height in various gamemodes. Even tho its useless it's a saviour of lag and part counts.
    But yeah everyone has opinions so I can't argue

    The random trigger can have some uses such as making random "pathes" (basically random gameplay rooms) and some random text such as the one seen in Power Trip.
    The removal of object limit is not THAT much of a problem, knowing that robtop optimized the game for 2.2, but yeah some levels will be unplayable on mobile.

    The swing copper may already exist but it takes up do much space its annoying to made and overall ass so robtop thought it was a good idea to made it official so you can simply just place a portal then its over and done with
    FREE MODE
    Once again this already exists but how many objects are you using in clunk of portals and how much time would that take to make exactly the reason rob is adding these thinks is to make it easier to assess
    But lets say rob desides to remove freemode and you have to have a massive clunk of portals for it to work how does that make any sense bc later in the video you say you want the obj limit to not free and that user made free mode will take a massive chunk out of you obj count
    RANDOM TRIGGER
    The random trigger seems very stupid it could have annoying game play and unpredictable BUT it also unlocks a path for creators to make procedural generation or secret path that apear randomly
    Theres alot you can do with it but i know the community and i know its not gonna be that way
    Anyway you probably didnt read this fucking esay of a comment and i cant blame you but if you did this is the correct opinion :)
