CURITIBA, BRAZIL: Along with eating a massive 5 kg. Sandwich the day before in Curitiba, we decided to take a historic train ride to Morretes. Morretes is a beautiful little town and happens to be known for barreado, a unique Brazilian banana meat stew. #Morretes #Brazil #BrazilianFood
Serra Verde Express - Historically it was used as cargo transportation, things grown in Morretes, to Curitiba. Now the train is used for entertainment and people from across Brazil come to take the incredibly beautiful leisure train ride for the spectacular views of the forest and mountains. The train ride was a little slow, but fun, and the views were spectacular. It took about 3.5 hours and we arrived in Morretes, a steamy jungle town.
Train ride - 125 BRL ($30.96) per person
Hotel e Restaurante Nhundiaquara - After walking around Morretes for a few minutes, we headed straight to Hotel e Restaurante Nhundiaquara, one of the classic restaurants serving barreado. In order to assemble a plate of Barreado, you take some meat stew cooked in a clayport, add in cassava powder, and mash it around. Then you add banana - not plantain or cooking banana - but just straight real sweet bananas. It’s very unique and unlike any other dish I’ve eaten. Overall I enjoyed it, it was simple in taste, but with the balance of salty and sweet, and plenty of different textures.
Price - 39 BRL ($9.66) per person

Mark Wiens, I don't think you are recognized enough for your hard work. It takes tremendous effort to Travel, and although you love to eat, it's pure work, sometimes; And keeping that smile all of the time, no matter what. Then, you have to edit numerous videos to upload to your various channels, all the while being a husband and father. I salute you. And appreciate what you do. Thanks.

@@jacksonnolasco Awwwh, thank you! :)

I agree. I recommend you to read (In case you haven't yet) his bio and your appreciation, recognition and respect for this man will be on a whole new level.
@@manzero134gd I will definitely do that. Is it in the About section in one of his Vlogs?
Born and raised in Brazil, I still eat rice and beans with bananas and mandioca flour, almost everyday, people in California think we are weird.
É o basicão do brasileiro de norte a sul. Hahahaha
As long as you love it who cares being called weird is a compliment it means you're unique
@Jess S I am Kenyan... Rice and beans here is a normal food actually in the whole continent it's one of the staples
in london too ,,.... people tell me im crazy eat banana with rice bean and meat ...........
Lol.Born in Brazil, live in Florida, eating avocado and maple syrup. Kkkk .Also love guacamole. This it's me.with proud of myself. 🍅🍊🍋🍌🍎🥞🧀🤣😀
The meaning of Nhundiaquara is: nhundia = fish and quara = hole, in Tupi-guarani, which is the name of the most widely distributed subfamily of the Tupian languages of South America.
Quite rich info though.. obrigado
I love Brazil! Been there many times in my childhood. People are very friendly and welcoming! Beautiful country
True, Brazilians are very kind! They love to help each other
Your Guys so cute... Sz
J. M I’m sorry you feel that way. I’m from the US and I love Brasil! I have a poster of Cristo Redentor on my wall. ❤️❤️🇧🇷

Kourzit I wish I could go one day . My mom used to always watch Black Orpheus and she named me after the actress that played Eurydice. But my father made her change it to Vanessa Dawn.
Sorry for going on like this.
🤦🏽♀️😭.
O cara e um fenômeno,na humildade,parabéns.
Correction mark : NHundiaquara is a name derived from Tupi not Portuguese (Tupi-Guarani , the old indigenous language of Brazil! In addition, many cities have Tupi names such as Curitiba .
Thank you very much, sorry about that error.

@@MarkAbroad So basically you're not wrong, it's not Portuguese, it's "Brazilian"
LOVE THIS BRAZIL SERIES!!!!!! Cant wait for ur adventures in Peru!
Don't go looking for Swiss lemonade in Switzerland. You find it only in Brazil!
It's called like that because of tge thick layer of foam on top, which reminds people of snow.
Wow, didn't know that side of the story, thats great.
@@MarkAbroad Same for the brazilian bread, which is called "french bread" by the brazilians, but you'll only find in Brazil too. It's called like that because it was first introduced and made by french bakers in Brazil at the end of the 19th century.
@Dani Adaptações culturais talvez? Tipo no Rio comerem feijão preto, e aqui no estado de SP a gente só usa pra fazer feijoada
Igual ao pão francês. Hahahaha

BTW, why is Joel soo silent this days!
owlie alim because of the bloody comment section i believe, they have said the most horrible things 😭😭😭 honestly i miss him in the vlogs too
@@mayamaysa15 Yeah! people are unnecessarily soo cruel Agh! i kinda miss him too!
I love Joel. I think he is very sweet. Just watch how gentle he is with the dog. He knows enough to show the dog his hand first. Anyone who loves animals is ok in my book. He is a good friend of Mark's. He tries to make his videos flow in Marks style. That's why he makes the same type of gestures and comments. You are right. People are cruel. Its just not right.

You now Mark, thank you very much for your videos from Brazil. I'm from Brazil but I live in Australia and your videos is like coming back home. Help with my homesickness for good!
This video of you put a smile on my face even though I’m a Brazilian young woman who would stay under cozy blankets watching one of my comfort movies rather than traveling (inside or outside of Brazil)… God blesses you!
Am loving the Brazil🇧🇷 series!! All the food looks good and the places you visit are all so beautiful!!!
"That's like the Blizzard, the Dairy Queen Blizzard" Loved it!!!!
Wow looks so yummy and beautiful brazil 🇧🇷
Mud (barro) is a mixture of water and land used in rustic constructions and also what forms after the rain in places of clay. Hence the name - barro / barreado - since the consistency are similar.
Wow wish I was in Brazil the food seems pretty taste.
In lockdown again. watching this. It brought so many fond memories back. I went and did the exact same trip to this place with my friend during the 2014 World Cup. We sat next to the river, had our Barreado, tried all 7 different Cachaça. Watched Uruguay vs Italy. While eating our Barreado, we witnessed Suarez's bite on Chiellini. Everyone looked each other in disbelief. I then decided to change the name of Churrasco to Suarezco. Haha. My friend who went past Bangkok told a snack shop owner, he loved it and promptly went out and changed his BBQ dish name. Man, flooded memories from that memorable trip are coming back just from watching this show show. Thank you for bringing back all that joyful feeling. Thoroughly enjoyed the show. Travel safe!
Great Posts. I am enjoying your travels in Brazil. Take care Steve
I wasn't expecting a video today but this is a nice way to conclude a Monday!

Amazing Mr.Mark great job thanku for showing in the world places and Food thanku
i need to learn portuguese
Prato típico do litoral paranaense.
E eu que moro aqui do lado e no nunca comi barreado kkkkkkkk n que eu me lembre

Nice video. Greatings from Tanzania!
Brazil say Thank's 🇧🇷 for u too
Another "first" from Mark...there are national cuisines which are fairly well known in the western world - Chinese, Indian, Malay/Indonesian/Singaporean, Ethiopian, French....but Brazilian? Congratulations on bringing this relatively unknown cuisine to our attention! And it looks amazingly mouth-wateringly delcious! And belated congratulations for the Uzbek and Pakistan series. We all have to eat to stay alive - but if it's deliciously tasty as well then we can enjoy our lives even more - and celebrate other cuisines and cultures. Mark - you should be (maybe you already are) a World Ambassador for the good things in life - things which we all can share, love and respect. Guten Appetit from a Brit in Berlin!
