He's actually pretty tragic. He was born cursed, because all Marika's kids were cursed for some reason. (Except Godwyn, who was apparently perfect.) In Messmer's case, he has an abyssal monster serpent inside him. So, Marika plucked his eye out and replaced it with a fake eye the sealed his curse. Sort of, anyway. Then she had him genocide the hornsent and subjugate the Land of Shadow while she went to rule the Lands Between, never coming back for him. (I believe one flavor text states Marika feared his power and wanted him out of the way.) When he tears his eye out during his phase transition, that's basically him having enough and going full Dark Side. Then he dies cursing his mother for abandoning him. Dude had some seriously rough luck.
@@RelativelyBest I'm pretty sure she had him do this against the Hornsent as a way of revenge which he accepted to do too. The hornsent killed and tortured Marika's clan, the shaman, horrendously. So we can't fully blame Marika for having a grudge against them although the war Marika unleashed has gone too far a bit. I think the Whip and other items we found at the tower point out how awful the Hornsent were to Marika's people. But I agree, that Messmer might have been abandoned by his mother, maybe bc she was fearful of his nature, the same way she feared and abandoned Messmer's sister.
I agree, if the weapon art of the sword was a beam of light, it would be identical. Imagine her becoming Artoria Alter, then the fight would get interesting.

she probably just have a void inside the helmet, non standard humanoid NPCs with an actual head inside needs it because you normally can actually see their face, but Rellana's whole head is covered by the helmet, i doubt From Soft would actually model a head for her
She's a unique boss model and not a human model so they never made a face for her likely. (Same as the black knives). She has a long black ponytail based on her helmet which is likely her real hair since her sister Rennala has black hair. Most Carians also have blue eyes as well, so we can assume she has black, hair, blue eyes, pale skin, and is an absolute babe. Maybe not as pretty as Sellen, but somewhere close.
There's nothing under Rellenas helmet. The developers didn't bother to model a head or face because she's always wearing a helmet. She's basically just an empty suit of armor.
