In this video, I share my top picks for some of the toughest watches on the market in a wide variety of different categories. Rather than focusing on "tough" marketing, I'll instead look to objective aspects of watches that prove their capabilities including water or shock resistance as well as things like case hardening. What's the toughest watch in your collection?

Forgot about g shock in the beginning. But thank you
Good job including Ball and Alpinist 👌
THANKS
Not all heroes wear capes
You are a hero
My Citizen everyday had a strap break whilst working outside. I lost the watch. After a harsh Summer & terrible Winter, I found it in the back yard. That's 12 months in extreme Wisconsin weather, a real test. I am wearing it now, works perfect.
Which Citizen watch is it?
@@Cody___ Citizen Garrison. Green cloth strap. Eco-drive. It reads: WR 100 on the dial (if that means anything). Runs perfect, I correct the time on it a few times a year, & wear it almost every day.
@@HariOmRadhaKrishna nice. I actually really like the look of that watch
@@HariOmRadhaKrishnahahaha awesome! I own that watch lol 😂
I’m here for the Seiko Alpinist
Last year I hiked the entirety of the Continental Divide Trail from Mexico to Canada with a marathon gsar grey maple on my wrist. Through hot dusty deserts, high altitude snow covered mountains and across swift freezing rivers the gsar never had an issue. It took me nearly 6 months and by the end the watch was less than 5 minutes slow. Every time I look at my watch I am reminded of my grand adventure and this watch will never leave my collection.
Hell ya dude. I plan on doing the same thing in the next 2 years.
Citizen Promaster NY0040 Automatic is ISO Certified for 200m. It was used by the Marina Militaire de Italia and passed the 1000m test with flying colors. Great bang for the buck.
I know you don't carry them but I would add the Vostok Amphibia.
Sinn and tegimented cases: I bought one 5 years ago. The official retailer i went to had a sinn provided little kit with a screwdriver and a tegimented case to show scratch resistance.
Being a relatively sceptical person when i see such a "showpiece" i told him if it is supposed to withstand a screwdriver, then it should be able to withstand what it will encounter on my wrist, and if not we would meet again very soon.
Now, 5 years later and the watch having had "enemy contact" with cable trays, the 19" rails in electrical and electronics cabinets etc. And while the paint on the bezel shows a few minor scars, the tegimented case to my surprise does not.
A g-shock may be tougher in terms of impact, but not in terms of scratchresistance. I wore one before my Sinn at work and i saw the difference in scratches. (No wonder plastic is quite soft compared to hardened steel)
Edit: btw.: in the extreme diver segment i would have expected the Sinn UX...(unlimited water depth resistance? due to fluid filled case)
Good story pal
I can't believe the new Citizen Promaster Tough watches (BN0241-59H and BN0241-59W) weren't included on your list, Teddy. With sapphire crystals, solar power, scratch-resistant titanium, screw-down crowns, 200m of water resistance, a monocoque case, very good lume and resistance to high and low temperatures, they are truly tough, affordable watches.
Exactly why I'm here. I own three. Absolutely indestructible. Best value proposition period.
I’ve found the Hamilton kaki has been able to hold up really well for me!
So glad to see both Fortis and Damasko getting some attention! The Fortis Flieger F-39/F-41 (comes in two sizes) would have been a good choice for the flieger category - 200m water resistance on that one too, super solid build quality.
Beautiful collection very well presented. Thank you Teddy.
Great choices! Picked up a Railmaster yesterday and it feels incredibly tough, all brushed too so less likely to show marks on it
Great video Teddy! Always enjoy seeing what's coming out next from the channel and this one certainly did not disappoint! Hope to get you hands on with one of our watches for a future video some time and thank you again for all that you do! Hope all is well!
All the best,
Ben
Small note about spring bars, they’re designed to be thin and flimsy. Most are meant to be the failure point, such that if something grabs your watch and pulls HARD, the spring bar breaks, but it won’t take your hand off with it. Worked in a factory once that didn’t allow any jewelry except silicon wedding rings and watches with spring bars,, for this reason.
Another good Teddy post on a yucky weather day! Cheers!
Marathon GSAR is a beast, got one issued on a 2012 deployment and it’s still going strong.
Where did you get stationed
@@solidus1995 I was in BAF and Bastion that deployment.
How much it costs?
Another great vid - definitely love the Tudor FXD fixed lugs !
Great to see Muhle on here. Almost took the plunge on the SAR but ended up going for the Seebattalion GMT - great watches with solid engineering
Thanks for this video, Teddy! Literally what I needed
I’m a construction worker, I use a lot of power tools that cause vibration (reciprocating saws, hammer drills etc.) Is there any mechanical watches that could withstand that kind of daily abuse or should I just stick to my GA-2100-1A1? Would love to hear Teddy’s opinion and the communities. Cheers!
The Elliot Brown is one of the toughest watches available. Real world testing.
Before I even watch, I am voting for SiNN. 😂😂
Got a 556 I myself think the thing is built like a tank .. would I use it like my G-Shock or even a800w not in a chance
It is a tank (I’ve got the 556ib) and honestly, I do treat it like a beater. But then again, I’m not all that hard on it.
@@karel_de_lille I have to U50, fully Tegimented. I work on oil platforms doing audits and inspections. Have had it for 4 years, and you still can't see a single scratch on it. One of the toughest things I've ever seen. And I do not baby it.
Awesome. Always love watching your videos. Would you do a big wrist dress watch video? 43mm+
Great subject and love my Muhle S.A.R. like to see more in this category. Keep up the good work.
Excellent video Teddy. Blitz’d through. No messing around!
Nice video, some great picks. I wonder though what sort of data supports the degree of shock resistance (apart from G-Shocks). I hear that quartz is more shock resistant than automatic/mechanical, full balance bridge and free sprung balance help with shock resistance, but how is this quantified? What about silicon vs. metal movement components? Case design?
The more I look at that Seiko Alpinist, the more it's growing on me. That might be my next watch in the collection.
It's a fantastic watch!
The Alpinist is a LOT of watch. What a package and the color scheme (green dial + brown strap) is very sharp. Great watch. I would say that the Alpinist and Aqua Terra are the two standout watches on this list.
The scratch resistance from the Traska is an amazing feature, would be nice to know which other timekeeper use this hardening technique.
Become an official dealer for Sinn Teddy!!!
Literally was looking for this exact type of video from you
Your selection definitly looks like an amazing christmas list ! :D
So many good watch brands now. I’m broke so the big names are out for me. Seiko is my favorite that is affordable for me. Good review Teddy. 👍🏻🍻
Muhle glashutte SAR is an absolute rock. Looks great too
Surprised a Vostok wasn't mentioned - they're "200m" water resistance rated but have been proven to go to around 750m, have like 10 year service windows, have extensive combat history and are in use TO THIS DAY on both sides in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
And you can whack the crystal with a rock without shattering it.
@@hb9145 yup I was using a hose and whipped it around really hard and the metal tip smashed right into the crystal and it left a small mark which I just polished out lol. It hit the watch so hard that the movement began running inaccurate - but it took a couple minutes to just re-regulate how fast it was running lmao
@@af8828 Hahaha, yes, these are tough beasts. I have dropped mine several times; I was sure that I had broken it more than once, but it just keeps running. I even took it along for some dirt bike riding. It was smashing against my wrist so hard that it hurt, but it ran fine.
@@hb9145 I mean if literal soldiers are using them tonfire weaponry etc (you can check out recent images from the rus-ukr war) I'm sure dirtbike riding is lightwork haha
Awesome video! Thanks!
A few corrections, Teddy. Sinn uses HI80 type of steel for their divers, which they tagiment. But, that type of steel is a bit harder than your everyday 316L, and it is 300 HV. That is without tagiment or any other coating. And Damasko steel hardening is around 800 HV, as stated at their web page. Not 1200 HV.
Thank you 4 all your detail international work 🎉
Great videos 👍
It's not my most expensive or "rugged" watch, but my Squale 1521 has been used for 4+ years (which is not long at all), but ive used it in oceans, doing work around the house, construction etc.
Not a scratch, the mesh band is beiliant and the watch can go hlf a KM under water. Its a brilliant watch for the money and durability.
Not a single ceramic watch. Aren't toughnes, scratch resistance their selling points?
Really enjoyed this!
Some gorgeous watches here. The Sinn U50 and the Damasko both stood out to me as stunners
Yes please part 2 or 3 would be awesome. This is the watch I need as I really can only afford a 1 watch collection.
Always enjoy your videos, great content. However I'm a little confused as to why you went with the 126600 SD, rather than the 126660 SD Deep Sea, which I would have thought would be the comparator to the Ultra Deep with crazy depth ratings. Anyway, video and keep them coming!
Great video
Great variety of watches
🙂
Great video, very informative!
What I great list. I expected to see Squale on the diver list. I'll lead with I'm a fan. They seem to be a great looking brand, familiar design, good heritage that people can afford. I hope to see them on your list like this in the future. :)
Glad to hear Victorinox get some love!
i would love a part 2 of this!
Wow, the first shout out to Fortis I've seen. My first good quality mechanical watch was the Fortis B-42 chronograph bought in 2007. Love that watch and it'll always be a favorite.
I got the seiko 5 gmt with the orange dial I absolutely love it but i was wondering why mine doesn't say made in japan on the back or the little japan on the dial, like it's definitely original bought it from a jeweller can someone explain this to me? Do they have out of japan production as well for a different market?
Thoughts on the Tudor Ranger?
Wow that green Seiko ist BEAUTIFUL!
Love my black Alpinist. Such a perfect GADA watch. I wear it on a bracelet in the office or throw it on a nato or rubber strap for fun. The black dial is really versatile and doesn’t stand out. I took two watches home for the holidays and it was just the Alpinist and a G Shock.
Great video. Surprised to. It seems the Bremont MB2.
Nice job as always, and thanks for shouting out my Aqua Terra - best all around watch...take that Oyster Perpetual!
Your presentation is so professional and outstanding. All those watches are awesome and I will get my first luxury watch ever. I have my eyes on the Omega Aqua Terra, but undecided on the color yet. And the Summer Blue Seamaster Professional is also on my list. I am a Scuba Diving Instructor so the Seamaster is high on my list 🤩
would love to know which are the toughest minute repeater, perpetual calendar and tourbillon 😀
Great video, as usual! Greetings from Romania! 😃
That Mühle reminds me of a produce scale at a grocery store 🤷
glad you mentioned the Muhle SAR...not a lot of people talk about it
Teddy,
Thanks for introducing us to more than just G-shocks and the “unobtainium” watches of Omega and Rolex.
99% of omegas are easy to buy just find a boutique and you can walk out with the watch for msrp
When you do gshocks can you look at protreks as well? I have a titanium Prw-60 as well as the green Prw-61 and they are fantastic watches. Surprisingly small for a casio ABC watch and they look as fantastic as they feel on your wrist. Best field watches Ive ever owned.
Glad to see the Marathon Steel Navigator make the cut, recently bought one and love it
Interesting category, thanks for putting it together. I wouldn't consider any watch (like the Seiko 5) to be tough without sapphire crystal. Do you have any experience with the toughness of Citizen Promaster titanium dive or military watches like the BN0118-55E ?
Sapphire does not mean tough it means scratch resistant. The only watch I’ve ever cracked was my pro master with a sapphire crystal. Sapphire = almost no scratches and very good clarity. Not tough.
@@joehonest7074 Thanks for clarification
I'm looking at Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra or Moonphase. Or. PANERAI Quaranta . What you think Teddi ?
That dial on the Omega Ultra Deep is stunning!
Love your Watch Critiques. Wondering why you didn't mention "ORIS"??? Love all of them, there "Dive Watches" Are Fabulous & Very Tuff!!!!!
Thanks for the very detailed introduction, Panerai are worth owning👍
What are your thoughts on Benrus watches?
hi im just wondering what is that clock you are wearing in this video
Good video, but I was expecting all watches on the list to have sapphire crystal, for everyday use I think that’s the key element for sturdiness.
Great review but once again I have to root for one of my personal favorites that you have not covered to my knowledge..the Helm line. Durability is incredible. I have been wearing mine for work and play for years now and they are killing it! Please do a review!
With the cold snap across the states, how does cold affect mechanical watches? LCDs could freeze.
been dying to get the traska for a while now
SEIKO CAN MAKE YOU ADDICT😅😅😅
G-shock is the way to go. Affordable and extremely tough
Teddy's profit margin on G-Shocks must be incredibly thin...
Victorinox I.N.O.X. is the way to go for adults who go out in public.
yes, but ugly like hell!
Saying hello with my Seiko Arnie on my wrist! Great video.
Great info! I want every watch you feature, and my collection is shredded, again! Let me “ break cover “, I am a stroke survivor ( lived) I am however, still struggling to recover. I watch CZcams constantly to both improve my focus, and teach me about watches. Watches that I now lust for! Just to toss something into the ring, I own a Wenger Alt-Nav. It is very tough, and the barometer & compass features are both solid and reliable. Keep reporting, I must recover, and collect more watches!
I have the Seiko Prospex Land SPB121 , it is such a lovely watch
I'm a new follower. And I have become addicted to your channel.
I've worn an MSAR (40mm gsar), in anthracite black with an anthracite black stainless bracelet for about 7 years straight now. That includes through extensive 911 service in a busy system.
I'm very hard on my edc stuff, and have destroyed luminox watches before as example.
I've only had two issues with my MSAR. The painted white marks on the bezel coming off - presumably from patient exam gloves being wrapped over the watch in some cases. And the screws for the bracelet coming out occasionally. It's honestly been a remarkably resilient watch that's held up extremely well. The dlc anthracite is extremely hard and I have extremely few scratches on it. Mainly only at the clasp of the bracelet and right at the corners of the bezel. Of course, the sapphire crystal is as flawless as the day I got the watch. I've been extremely impressed.
The anthracite was first issued to military in 2018 and civilians slightly later. The bracelet only came out December 2020…….
How does that Seiko five hardlex hold up?
I love my aqua terra. My first luxury watch
I own the U50. Marvelous watch that folks that care nothing about watches tell me “I really like the color of that watch!” It’s an unusual color for steel, and scratch resistant. Great video, as usual.
The U50 is just such an intriguing watch. Has to be at the top of my list for tough automatic watches. Any chance you'll become a Sinn AD in the future?
I am a Damasko collector. All 4 Damasko watches I own are accurate to a second per day and don’t have a single scratch on their cases and bracelets. The value watch is the DS30, possibly the best go anywhere, do everything watch on the market..
How did the Ecozilla miss the list!? 6mm thick mineral crystal. Solid stainless case no spring pins stock. Sorry i just love mine so much after going through countless Gshocks. Hahaha. Great vid. Learned a lot. Thanks!
Teddy, I would love to see what watch you are wearing in your videos. Your watch is usually covered by your sleeves and hard to see. You are a watch channel, show the people what you are rocking!
Will you post a link to the Zen 50
It has been a while since I have had an eye on that Traska, might try it out...
if your wrist is small its highly reccomended. its beautiful well made and is top quality. its and easy reccomend for the price. dial is lovely. the giant boxed crystal is great as well. lume is disappointing
I'm not familiar with G Shock, not available in my country. How does it compare to Edefice or Titan?
I'll say it again... "IF MY LIFE DEPENDED ON IT" (besides G shock) I'm going with a Citizen Eco Drive (preferably with sapphire crystal).... now you can always get a Rolex incase you need to do some bartering in the Zombie Apocalypse
I'm not sure if automatic watches can truly be "rugged" , but I'm not an expert at all.
what about the new hamilton expidition field? have one on the way for a killer price but thats like perfect everyday toughness
I own a Mühle SAR and it's fantastic, so much thought went into its design.
How big are your wrists and I'm wondering in your opinion, does 42/48.8 look big for a watch without a diver's bezel?
@@coffeeortea547 I'm a big guy, for sure, but the 42mm is an all-out width and the bezel is actually 40mm. Far comparison it wears way smaller than a full-size 42mm Tudor Pelagos. Of course it's a proper tool watch, so don't expect it to wear dainty.
@@allenmontrasio8962 Thanks!!
The toughness of a watch is #1 factor for me. Good vid.
One of my favorite tough watches I own is the Maratac Mid Central Second Pilot (Quartz). I have a couple (both silver and red crowns) and they're very rugged. Perfect size for me also at 39mm. And the offset crown is one of my favorite designs. I recently picked up the titanium version (automatic) and it's nice, but the steel quartz version is the cat's pajamas.
The Omega Ultra Deep is phenomenal, love that hidden message!
Greaaaaaat video Teddy!
No automatic watch is tough due to the huge number of parts. A digital watch is way more durable, like a Garmin
Please make a video on the best g shocks
What are your thoughts on the Edox Neptunian
Loving Certina DS Super 1000m, Sinn U50, Tudor Pelagos FDX, Omega Ultradeep and Rolex Sea dweller... 🌊 😮
