Freddie Jones who played Sandy was in Firefox with Clint Eastwood and one of the oldest that they never mentioned was Toke Townley, he played Annie Sugden`s father from the very first episode of Emmerdale Farm. He had been in some Big screen films such as, Dam The Defiant with Alec Guinness and Dirk Bogarde and Anthony Quayle.
Didn’t know the man who played Ned Glover was dead they’ve got a few here I didn’t know about actually
I remember Shirley Stelfox from playing Rose on "Keeping Up Appearances". Rest In Peace Shirley Stelfox and all departed cast members.
I will have to check out Emmerdale. I'm from the USA and try to catch most British shows through Acorn, BBC America, our PBS stations and by purchasing DVD sets. Love watching British drama, comedy and mystery series.
Emmerdale has had so many iconic characters. I always think of Seth, Betty and Edna Birch when I think of Emmerdale.
I loved Richard Thorpe always thought he has such a wonderful smile such a great actor remember watching him in the dam busters when I was younger sadly missed rip to them all
I used to see him regularly riding his Harley Davidson when he lived in Barkisland near Halifax.

Jack sugden was played by Clive Hornby not Andrew burt who died at 63 in 2008!
he was played by both of them
Andrew Burt was the original Jack Sugden, 1972 - 1976, Burt left the soap to further his career elsewhere, rather than kill off the character Clive Hornby was brought in to fill his shoes….(or wellies)
Sheila Mercia played Annie Sugden I gather NO LONGER ALIVE
