I think itâs because getting your hair and nails done is relaxing, wouldnât you say? Thatâs always what I chocked it up to be. â€
Ditto!
That would definitely explain it! đ
Yes the series is good! I literally sobbed multiple times throughout reading them. It takes a bit of time though but once you get to THAT part you will be hooked. And then the ending of the second book will make you feel the feels and scream
OK FINE I SHALL DO IT đ
You seriously wonât regret it!
@@allanaramaa she nailed the description!!! I am on my KNEES asking you to finish the series. MY KNEES LAN
Same with the nail and hair salon!! Itâs the relaxation!! Youâre just sitting, watching, maybe checking social but, the activity of it just seems to calm and relax you - same here đđ»
Iâm with you on feeling tired after going to any salon/nail/spa. I love coming home and just nap if I can. I need to look up the Empress. Canât wait for your Sephora vid. Loved seeing your pics of your trip. â€ïžâ€ïž
Always enjoy your videos! So fun yo watch âșïž Canât wait for the sephora sale video!
Exactly the same thing happens to me, it makes me sleepy after going to the hair salon or doing my nails and I think it's more because it relaxes us!!
Like goodnight when they massage your scalp at the sink lol đ
It made me so happy to see Meryl in this video -- I lost my sweet kitty pretty suddenly Monday night, so I needed this content to get me through!
Iâm so so sorry to hear â€
Iâm sooo so sorry to hear that Lauren đ„șđ€ sending you all of our love!!
I am so sorry đ„șâ€ïž sending you a big hug!
@@kathleenklimek2965 thank you â€ïž
@@eleonorabutto2391 thank you so much â€ïž
The girlies LOVE a running around vlog!! I will be getting that little value gift set to try that mask!đđœ
You definitely need to read the crescent city first book! I finished it yesterday and started the second today. I found that there was a lot of new âlingoâ at the beginning, but you get used to it. So good â€
Regarding Crescent City: yes the first two-ish chapters are rough with world building. It gets really good after that and is a necessary read in the SJM verse. Throne of Glass is still my fave though
I am in love with the ACOTAR series right now. Just finished ACOWAR and it was my fav!!!
Currently experiencing a court of thorns and roses hangover after binge reading the series, so I FEEL YOU girl!
iâm a big fan of the crescent city books. itâs super different than any fantasy iâve read and i am way too excited to see where it goes
The help is soooooo good even if youâve seen the movie! Also everyone recommended It ends with us ⊠so I started reading that and itâs sooo good! Love you Allana †your so lovely â€ïžđ„°đ
your hair looks AMAZING!!!!!
Merylllll â€ïž I love love love the Caudale spray! It is Hg status for me.
THE EMPRESS was phenomenal, thank you for recommending!! I love, love LOOOVED it.
What a lovely vlog!!!
Started The Empress yesterday and I'm already halfway through, absolutely love it! As for a book rec I recently read The Secret History and it is so worth the hype, definitely in my top 5 all-time books and can't stop thinking about it
Love the nails! Sephora sale here I come đ
Recently read The Grapes of Wrath and loved it. No idea why it took me so long to get my hands on that classic.
Yes yes yea I also get the after nails or hair tiredness, likely the slight boredom/relaxing/doing nothing vibes. But nothing like fresh nails babes xx
Thereâs quite a few Allana videos I need to catch up with đđđ€đ„°
Fantasy wise the fury born series ist soooo good!!! The world building is immaculate and the characters are so interesting, especially the narrow path between what is viewed a good and evil! Highly highly recommend!!!!
Your delirious book update is hilarious!
I REALLY enjoyed Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns (both by the same author). Fantastic writing. And couldnât put them down.
I second that!
Need to get back to my reading game đ it's been so long, thanks for the reminder đđŒ
The crescent city series is great. I couldnât put both books down. I recommend 100%
Allana for the benefit spray you could use your full size to refill the travel size đ
Definitely read the Crescent City series! It's a struggle in the beginning, especially with a book hang-over (I started it after reading the ACOTAR series) but trust me, it is so worth it! Once you get past the first 200ish pages, it really picks up. The second one is amazing too and the ending will make it all worth it
I love Caudalie's products! đ„°
Book reqs:
Memoirs of a Geisha, Arthur Golden
The Historian, Elizabeth Kostova
The Nightingale, Kristin Hannah
Migrations, Charlotte McConaghy
She's Come Undone, Wally Lamb
Outlander Series
My favorite book of all time is The Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy.
You canât go wrong with any of his work.
If you like mysteries, Dennis Lebanese especially Gone baby Gone.
East of Eden by John Steinbeck is also a great read.
Early Patricia Cromwell and the Sue Grafton Alphabet series is a fun easy read.
Oh yes books! Some faves in no particular orderâŠ
The House In the Cerulean Sea
Song of Achilles
Name of the Wind
A Psalm for the Wild-Built (and the sequel - itâs a novella duology)
The Brown Sisters Trilogy
Seven Days In June
In The Dream House - itâs a heavy topic memoir, but damn so good!
Green Bone Saga
A Season for Second Chances-cozy, wintery British romcom with older main characters. So funny
The Black Flamingo
The Dresden Files is an urban fantasy noir series. The first few can be a little rough as theyâre 20 years old but almost every one is better than the last and they can be nice to read between other books too. This is my fave on going series. The audiobooks are fantastic too!!
I absolute relate to having a book hangover! I usually change around genres constantly to avoid it. Here are my (recently read) top 5 books:
- The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms
- Catherine House
- The Warmth of Other Suns
- Beautiful World, Where Are You?
- The Good Left Undone
Scruples, Scruples 2 and Lovers are fantastic. They are old and there is some questionable phrasing used but I loved them. I read them years ago. Judit Krantz books are great.
these are my favorites types of videos
LAN, I imagine youâre exactly as we see you in these video personality-wise. If Iâm having a bad day, watching your video cheers me up. đ. Also I always go to sleep when Iâm getting my hair and nails done canât be helped. Finally, love The Empress
Top book recs: The Dutch House, All The Light We Cannot See, This Time Tomorrow, and everything from Alice Oseman. đ
Yes! The Sarah H Mass books are worth it!!!
I recommend the book seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo. It's an easy read and I couldn't put it down :)
Crescent city books were great! And you will appreciate them, especially if you read and loved ACOTAR.
I recently read Verity by Coleen Hoover and it was a good read.
Do you get the gel done on your natural nails Lan? Forever wishing I had naturally longer nailsđ„Čhave a great week and safe travelsđ„°â€ïž
I rarely comment (though I love your videos and watch them all) but just dropping in to give a book recommendation: The Language of Flowers is one of my favorite books of all time. A lovely story and really unique - itâs not fantasy but it was surprisingly a favorite, just because Iâm not sure how well known it is.
Read the Crescent City series - itâs amazing and the ending of the second book will make you cry!
The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah is one of my number ones. The Help is SO good!! These Hollow Vows by Lexi Ryan is a fantasy type thatâs good too, not as spectacular as throne of glass but still very enjoyable.
Throne of glass completely passed me by and I couldnât be happier that I skipped to The Crescent city series! I hope you have the time to sit and read it (then order the next book!), as I literally couldnât put it down/ need the next in the series like now!
Happy Halloween!!!
Love boppin' around with you...and listening to Meow-ryl. hehe! Currently reading Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt and it's good! Also, I just blasted through the first three Harry Potter series books the past couple of weeks because it's Halloween! xo
Iâm pretty basic. Every Hemingway especially moveable feast and every FS Fitzgerald. Beautiful. Perfect. Outstanding.
Throne of glass hangover is a thing, it happened to me when I finished the series, 10/10!!
It was like we lived an entire other lifetime!!! How does one move on! đđ„č
Love a Meowryl cameo! đž
My mom LOVED The Empress!!
Right there with ya on all of it......that said, I do have a weakness for face palettes đ
I love the Anne Rice Vampire series. Excellent read
My favourite book I read this year and of all times is the dutch house by ann patchet
It's the ASMR-ness of the hair and nail salons! Like paying attention to all the details and the little noises! Lan, I know you're an ASMR girl like mee đ
The Night Circus, a really lovely audiobook because of Jim Daleâs narration. Itâs such a sweet unique story
I havenât watched Empress yet but itâs on my list, and it got on my radar because I had read and really enjoyed two novels about her by Allison Pataki! So you might enjoy those!
Omg I had no idea that they were books!!! đąđąđąđą ugh the show was amazing!
@@allanaramaa it was so good! Not sure if this show was based on those books, probably just based on her life cause she was a real person? But I got so excited when I tried to google more about her and was like waaaait there's gonna be a show about her soon? :D
also From Blood and Ash series and the prequel series Shadow in the Ember is VERY GOOD
The outlander series!! A must read đ
I second this!!!
I bought the full size mask because of this video. My skin is the worst itâs ever been due to a new job, so Iâm excited to try it! Thank you!
I went from ACOTAR to crescent city and yes I was the same!! I couldnât get into it so I stopped and will go back to it. Iâm trying ToG now and Iâm on book 4, loving it but still not as amazing as ACOTAR. đ
Hi Allana, for books I love checking the recommendations on goodreads. When you go onto the page of a book you love, they have a page for similar books made from readers recommendations.đ Also, I love the lipstick youâre wearing in your car with your sunglasses! Do you remember what it was? Thanks you. đ
The Wife Before is an amazing book, highly recommended
I think the word is relaxation LOL I'm the same too and that just dawned on me :P
Okay but this is my favorite thing to talk about. My top three books are
1. Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo
2. The Power by Naomi Alderman
3. The Awakening by Kate Chopin
I love crime books so my recommendation is the Harry Hole series by Jo NesbĂž! Heâs a norwegian author, and i would recommend The Snowman as the first bookđ„°
Omg I have the same issue after Throne of Glass!! I just can't read right now lol
Yes you need to read it! You will not be disappointed but make sure you read till the end of the second book in the series it's all worth it in the end :)
Iâve actually fallen asleep while getting my hair done in the salon, especially when getting my hair washed lol.
Iâm the same books, if itâs been a large series I need time to get over the universe ending.
One book I would recommend I read a couple weeks ago is âA Serial Killers Wifeâ Itâs fiction, authors first book and it was brilliant. The ending was incredible - an easy read but so good!!
Glass castle jeanette walls true story of the authors life. Pretty small book but so good. Also Memoirs of a Geisha was amazing I saw someone else recommended and forgot it existed but it was really good.
I like having the travel size porfessional in my travel makeup bag but hated having to re-purchase so often. So I finally remembered to save my empty travel size and just re-fill it from my large bottle of porfessional.
Unleaving by Melissa Ostrom is terrific. âšđ
Whatever you put in those shrimp bowls looked DELISH!
I get very sleepy and tired too because itâs so relaxing!! đ€Ł
Lol! I have this running joke with my hairstylist about falling asleep there!! I go every week to have my hair washed/dried and in between I have longer appointments for other stuff. I always thought it was me, when Iâm made to stop and relax. But maybe itâs all the chemicals in the air or something đ
Some books to check out :)
Fantasy/Scifi:
- Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss
- Lies of Locke Lamora series by Scott Lynch
- Wanderers by Chuck Wendig
- Tolkien!
- Lathe of Heaven by Ursula le Guin
- The Passage by Justin Cronin
Literature:
-1Q84 or Wild Sheep Chase or Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami
- We Need to Talk about Kevin by Lionel Shrivel
- Klara and the Sun or anything by Kazuo Ishiguro
- Million Little Pieces by James Frey
And some Classics
- Brave New World or 1984
Bit of a mixed bag but all worth giving a shot for something new/different â€
Some books I read recently that I loved are Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine (Gail Honeyman), A Gentleman in Moscow (Amor Towles), We Begin at the End (Chris Whittaker) and Still Life (Sarah Winman). đ
Yes after the air salon i just want to nap !
Top 5 Books: Call Me By Your Name by Andre Aciman, The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender by Leyslye Walton, I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson, Looking For Alaska by John Green and of course the Harry Potter series for comfort :)
Allana, I don't know if you like romance-y books, but I've been obsessed with Elin Hilderbrand lately. I read her new book "The Hotel Nantucket" and was obsessed. If you love beachy vibes and hearing about people's problems with a dash of magical realism (ghosts lol), then you'll love it! I'm now reading Golden Girl which is the same premise but with heaven/after life themes.
A thousand Splendid Suns is my fave book of all time. I think you will love it because I read everything that you read đ
Love you BYEEEEEEEEE
That book really affected me.
Yes! Loved this book, and the author!
some books I loved: Shatter me series by Tahereh Mafi (dystopian) , The Dark Verse series (Mafia Romance - Mostly the first 2 books are my fave The Predator and The Reaper) by Runyx, The unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin, Burned by Ellen Hopkins and Identical also by Ellen Hopkins (this one messed with your mind and had a really great plot twist and was soo good!!)
I love reading books after the movie, itâs like the extended version!
Crescent city is the absolute best â€đ†it takes at least 200 pages to get into it and for the plot to get exciting but omg itâs so well written! Read it!
Favorite books ever, in no particular order: The Book Thief, The Poisonwood Bible, The Prince of Tides, The Nightingale, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society.
I have always loved The Alchemist
READ CRESCENT CITY! I know what you mean, I loved TOG & ACOTAR and thought no way, nothing comes close. Once you get into the fact that itâs modern times and get past the first like 10 chapters, itâs actually SO good. And it ties into ACOTAR which I loved. Truthfully nothing beats TOG, but I surprisingly really loved it
Same thing about Crescent City! Still haven't managed to get invested in it (multiple years laterrr...)
I am reading Carrie Soto is Back right now too! My top books of all time are A man called Ove, Educated, Circe, Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, Malibu Rising, From Scratch, House in the Cerulean Sea, Lady Clementine, Little Women, and Dorian Gray.
The Dark Tower series by Steven King is amazing if you give them a try you have to get to at least the 4th book cuz its the best one. The Old Kingdom series from Garth Nix is a super easy read but a really interesting concept.
You have to read "Redeeming Love" by Francie Rivers, literally my all-time favorite read. So good.
The Windsinger Trilogy. Amazing books.
I legit fall asleep while getting my hair done!!! Fave is when I go get eyelash extensions and I just nap for the ENTIRE time! And since I like getting the full dramatic set it sometimes takes 3 hours! Thatâs a 3 hour nap right there! đđ
Ohhhh yea especially lashes! Itâs like a full nights sleep right there! đ
I know what you mean with leave the throne of glass world đ€Ł I experienced the same feeling but how ever you should read the Cresent City books âșïž for me they start a bit slow and confusing but it gets really good!! đ„° I read the Throne of the glass Serie 4 timesđ€Łđ but the Cresent City books 2times as well... So go for it â€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïžxoxo
Yes !! I always get so tired getting my nails down and hair
I think itâs because Iâm restless and canât sit still so itâs hard đ
Top Books :) I've read this year.
1. Verity, By, Colleen Hoover
2. Rock Paper Scissors By, Alice Feeney
3. One of Us Is Dead By, Jeneva Rose
Happy Reading!
The Thief of Always by Clive Barker is my favorite book ever. I've never taken longer than one day to read it so it won't last you long. It's YA horror (which is the only kind I can handle because I'm a wuss). It's SO GOOD!!!!!
For books: âCutting for Stoneâ had me wishing to have a sequelâŠjust so I could follow the characters a bit longer. Iâm loving the Book of Longings too! Happy reading
Cutting for Stone was fantastic!
Crescent city is 10000% worth it. TOG is also amazing but crescent city just hits different.
