Wagner Moura did an OUTSTANDING job voicing Death. His voice fits the threatening force of nature *perfectly.* I hope he's aware of the love, praise and attention the fans have for him and his character.

He’s so terrifying because of how we get to see Puss as this amazing fighter with his reputation being well founded. When Death first appears and beats Puss with zero effort it shows how he is in a class of his own.
To be fair he's been around since the beginning of time he's probably had an extremely long time to foster his fighting technique.
My theory is that this isn’t even Death’s true form. He probably appears different to everyone. He’s also not truly of the world that Puss inhabits, so he can’t ever truly be defeated.

@@warlynx5644 I agree. It was exposition used in the wrong way. It would've been better if it was coincidentally mentioned by another character earlier in the movie who Death was. Then Puss could have figured it out on his own.
I feel like Death does like to brag.
Honestly, Death has to be by far... one of the most greatest villain's ever. Not only was his design suited perfectly with spanish culture but the fact that he doesn't reap just for the fun of it... but rather as a natural duty of his and to see a cat who wasted his lives through measly things... to him, taking the last life of puss's is giving the cold reality check that nobody can truly escape death... no matter how hard they try.
What does death have to with Spanish culture I thought it was a Mexican thing?
See, I wouldn't even call him a "villain." An *Antagonist*, sure, but really, he's just doing what he's supposed to do.
@@ReaperGrimm5594 He's technically altering the deal. He doesn't have to. Cats have nine lives, nothing says he can go and personally take them. he is a villain because he doesn't respect the term of the implicit contract of life. "You live, until you die" that he turn into "You lived, now you die" because he didn't like it.
On the other end of the spectrum, he never *officially* signed a contract about it, and some god damn cat has been spitting in his face for years. It is an amazing character but he has a tiny amount of "villain" in him.

Not a massive fan of this version. There's... nto as much of that simple menace the original has.
I'm pretty sure that Death was intending to end the whistle eventually with a nineth note once he'd have Puss dead... That is how chilling this dude is, and I love it!

Which is the same for Deaths whistle except you die...
I believe the whistling is based of a vénézuélien story, the whistler, using seven musical notes A B C D E F G with the following scale, A B C D ascending and E F G A descending. Pretty cool the attention to detail
The line "UGH! Why in the hell did I have to play with my food?!" is the best animated villain line i've ever heard. Not only is it contextually funny, but it emphasizes how dangerous Death really is when he draws Puss' blood in the bar. We get hints throughout the film that Death is not using his full power at all because the chase "makes it more fun for me" which means we might see what he is really capable of in the next movie or so.
However, I didn't quite understand the joke behind Big Jack Horner's last line ("What did I do wrong? I mean what specifically??") because I thought when he flicked away the cricket it was obvious to him that he was doing morally wrong things to reach his goal. So that one kinda went over my head.
I believe the joke was he wanted to know which one of the awful things he did was what screwed him over, hence the "what specifically"
He did a lot of evil things to the point people had to tell him which one.
Think thats a form of haggeling, him betting on no one being able to narrow it down to just "one" act
It was a funny moment in the movie & John Mulaney being a comedic genius in real life. He gave the producers so much good material it became difficult to pick what to leave out for the sake of brevity.
I was actually hoping to see Death take Jack Horner to the afterlife, not see him get taken into the star energy and shot into space.

No matter what version you hear of this, it'll ALWAYS have an element of horror to it. Like something out of a horror movie or a trailer of one. And this picture... makes me think of both Scream and... strangely enough, IT.

He is all of this. And just like that, he literally became the reason i watched the movie.
The perfect antagonist. He’s not 100% evil to the core. That’s cheesy. He’s not constantly conflicted nor does he have some weird “redemption” at the end. He is a strong antagonist with Honor. He can accept change. But he is still intimidating.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but this is one of those villain themes that is so unsettling, because it almost sounds peaceful in it's melody.
You have to see it. I was on the fence about seeing it and trust me, you won't regret it!

EVERYONE IS MAKING DEATH THEME REMIXES AND I AM HERE FOR IT
Not only is Death a Wolf, an animal that in nature is an endurance hunter, a hunter that slowly exhausts its prey by stalking it down, representing death as an unending threat, but he uses sickles, and while sickles are a harvesting tool much like a scythe, they were historically used for "early" harvests on crops that werent ripe, representing that death is attempting to "harvest" puss' last life way too early, amazing character down to every detail.

It is so spine-chilling to hear that whistling and is so perfectly with him I'm not going to lie. did you know that when deaths starts whistling is in fact the five little ducks song just more spine-chilling, nightmare fuel, and ominous version of the nursery rhyme song? I just realized it after hearing that a couple of times and I thought the whistling of the song sounded so familiar to me until I listen very carefully of it it is in fact the song the five little ducks.
This is easily one of the greatest (possibly THE greatest) personifications of death in cinema.
By listening to the epic version of Death Wolf's Whistle. It's almost like you are seeing and witnessing Death Wolf hunting down and violently killing his targets in the past. Seeing fear in their eyes before meeting a grewsome bloody end at the hands of his sickle blades
At times it even sounds like something from star wars just more epic!!! Great job putting this together!

Death is just an absolute perfection, and I think his entrance is what solidifies that to the people. Puss hears a whistle, familiar to us since it's a nursery rhyme seemingly harmless, then Puss' hat goes off and Death turns out to be sitting next to him--no fancy entrance, no glorious entourage, just simple and haunting.
When Death landed a blow and Puss sees his own blood, Puss' fur raises up in fear. It is accompanied by this "wheels on the bus" music but it's *different* . It changed tone, and begins to rise up with Puss' fur. What used to be harmless, now causes *fear* . Another thing to note is Death's design. Nothing indicates that he's "death". There aren't the usual stereotypes like skull or sickle. In the context of the entire franchise, he's just a big bad wolf. But all of those elements combined made the audience fear as if we were in Puss' boots.
Simple music turned haunting, his entrance quiet yet frightening, and an appearance seemingly typical yet by donning the boots, he becomes this entity. He really is just straight up *DEATH* .
He literally has 2 sickles
to me i caught on to his nature the moment i saw him. a tall, looming dark figure with dark robes, the hand sickles, and his white fur standing out from the dark while the grayer fur around his eyes make his red eyes look more sunken. and he's a wolf. to a cat what else would death look like to a feline that viewed death as a foe. i saw the character design thinking. yep, thats his boogie man but that is still bad ass

As the embodiment of death, he’s witnessed countless people die in slow and painful ways. People of all ages, including children. To see Puss die in so many careless, easily preventable ways and still get to live whereas a sick child who should’ve had more time doesn’t, must’ve been massively insulting
