    I had really bad knees before I started consistently running, so bad that i couldn't even do a proper squat. Now, after a year i don't feel my knees hurting anymore and I can finally do squats pain free!! Running can only damage knees if your running form is bad or you are running with shoes that are not made for this activity and also as you said when you overdo it but progressive overload is the key, gradually increasing mileage won't damage the knees, it probably would if you started running a lot with no experience.

    I just finished a year of running every day. My knees have never felt better. However I have found that performance wise it is better have rest days to improve the quality of every running session.

    I'm a semi-competitive runner myself, with a habit of looking at way too much research. Almost every long-term study I've looked at has shown a reduced risk of injury and knee pain for runners, even marathoners (who run way more than an hour at a time). You have to build up to it and be careful, however. Also, many studies have shown that sunlight (mostly early morning light) significantly affects mood and circadian rhythm, making outdoor activities more beneficial. In my own experience, those studies have been proven true. And more than 150 minutes of cardio a week does have significant health benefits. The benefits lessen as you go on, but there are still far more beyond that. Three hundred minutes is where the benefits decrease to a point where more is no longer beneficial.

    • @larafroeschl7083
      @larafroeschl7083 Pƙed rokem +2

      Yes and I think if you think about it it makes total sense because humans were literally designed to run. And to run long distances. We literally hunted our food that way by running so long that the prey got tired out and we had a chance to kill them. So why wouldn’t our knees be built for that? Of course if you‘re just starting to run (like i am) you have to build up carefully because my knees hurt really bad sometimes and then i know I either didn’t warm-up right or it was too much. Gotta figure that out 😂😂

  • @apexracing9479
    @apexracing9479 Pƙed rokem +5

    I mean depending on your experience if you start running it will make you happier but i run all the time and i still often feel depressed no matter all the effort i put to become faster or just overcome stress

    As someone that runs every single day, I can definitely agree that all these. Except the knee part. At first, you get a lot of knee pain but you'll adapt overtime

    • @biginfluencer5252
      @biginfluencer5252 Pƙed rokem +6

      If you get regular knee pain you shouldn’t run every single day, your body needs time for recovery. It’s always better to take a day or two to recover than to keep pushing yourself to the point of injury. An injury could stop you training for weeks/months depending on severity.

      Depends on the individual, I know some MMA fighters who opt to bike ride and shadow box instead of run because it causes too much stress for their knees. But some of them are also 2 knee surgeries and 3 ankle surgeries deep

    Great vid guys but have to disagree with you on the knee part! There’s studies that show even recreational marathon runners have less knee osteoarthritis compared to non-runners and it can have a protective effect! It’s just all about progressive overload with avoiding running injuries! đŸ’ȘđŸŒ

    • @caitlynmcknight4456
      @caitlynmcknight4456 Pƙed rokem +1

      Totally agree. I done a lot of research on this as well, and the another thing that matters is finding the correct shoes. Too much cushion or too little cushion can also lead to knee pain.

      Pick something like walking, running, jumping jacks and start and then don’t quit. Change your diet also and make it work
 otherwise the beginning work out pain just makes you give up. For example, I’m restarting my journey as my busy schedule has changed, and day 1’s workout has been painful however I haven’t given in to the junk and sweets I love because I know how much pain I’m in and how hard I’m working for it. Cheers to the journey
