in 1960 Andy was becoming very well known and touring the nightspots around the Northeast. He came to Buffalo NY where we lived.
He appeared at a well known suburban venue in ...really....Williamsville NY.
Afterwards he spent the night at a friends home before they would get him to the airport. A local resterateur Next door to us.
Around 8 a.m. the phone rings and (call her Sue) the lady next door says Anna, come over! Andy Williams is here for breakfast before we go to the airport!
With her polished sense of tact and decorum,
my mom told Sue it was really early to be drinking like this,, and hung up.
Thinking about it she put on something and went next door.
My brother has a big picture on his closet wall of Andy (in the cashmere sweater,natch) and my Mom next to him, full-on Deer in The Headlights mode.
Later on this song became my favorite Seasonal/secular song for this reason. (As opposed to the Sacred "O Holy Night" type hymns.)
