- The LEGO Technic Liebherr Crawler Crane LR 13000 42146 has finally been posted to the official LEGO website. It contains 6 powered up large angular motors, two smart hubs, and a ton of counterweights as well as some revolutionary functions! That's right, despite having no gearbox, its mechanisms are still extremely impressive. My LEGO Technic 42146 review is coming very soon, so stay tuned.

700$ no way!
Shoud have been 1000
What you think of corse itâs going be that much cuz itâs like as big as a person
THis set was actually supposed to be released last year however the designers had issues with stability. That explains why two steel balls are used.
Lego just Add like 280$ for the 2 hub and the 6 motors. And is just Only 2883 parts. And cost 700$ WHO is gonna buy so overprize set.
Weâll see if it sells well. A good way to observe the sales of a lego set is to see if it goes on clearance in large retailers
Idiots, sadly there's a lot of idiot afols
Yea
But im think then gonna remo Thiss set pretto fast like Mabye then sell like 7000 set of Thiss but is like nothing.
The prize is crazy high. The crane doesn't even look like the real thing, the proportions are wrong, the boom and jib are too short.
Mouldking has a 2 meter tall Liebher crane that costs only âŹ189, it has 6 motors, a remote control and rechargeable battery hub.
With a remote controlled gearbox you could have saved at least 2/3 motors - with a more interesting build for sure
That, and it wouldâve been cheaper
You could have, but you wouldn't have been able to run multiple functions in parallel. I get that Lego wants to flog RC as hard as it can, but I really think this set would've been better and more engaging as a dumb PU set with a bunch of lever-driven gearboxes
A set of this size wouldâve been really sluggish with less motors. Look at how terribly slow the bucket wheel excavator is to actually play with, thing takes 2-3 business days to do any function properly. This is more in line with the other liebherr where all the motors mean a much better play experience
While I refuse to believe that size was considered in the pricing, I would believe that the new pieces and the motors are what make the set so expensive.
The crane feels a little short, so I hope that when they start selling the crane boom parts, you can modify it to be taller
It looks really cool and I love how excited you are about it. It's not for me though. The price and size are both too much. But I think it would be a really fun build!
If you compare it to 42082 for instance, it has over 1000 extra pieces, but is less than half the price. Yes it has only one motor, but it still has the same amount of features (because of awesome gearboxes). In technic, if you can do the same features with gearboxes, why use more motors? This is just a way to ask for more money, and I think it's insane.
I mostly see this set as a parts pack for large Technic motors and specialized frames. The price-per-weight ratio is probably pretty reasonable.
Itâs an amazing set for sure. I ,OLED the clever way to tell the weight being lifted, and Iâm very curious as to what theyâve done to make those counter weights? Just a piece of steel inside or something else. Hopefully theyâll make different sized or heavier ones.
Agreed! The counter weights are fascinating!
Your gushing about this product is "absolutely" disgusting.
As a crane model enthusiast here's my take:
It honestly looks pretty awful when compared to the real machine. I feel like the level of innacuracy is unacceptable on such an expensive flagship. The price brings it into the territory of proper licensed diecast scale models which at $700 ranges between 1.3-2.5 m tall depending on the model. For example a WSI Ltm 1650 retails for around US$ 550 but reaches a height of around 1.6 m. A few years ago, US$700 would have gotten you a NZG LR1600/2 which was around 1.8 m and could be posed in quite a few configurations but that has been discontinued. The closest comparison today would be the IMC Demag cc2800 which retails for around US$800.
Here are the inaccuracies that I can spot immidiately:
- The entire rear A frame is missing
- The rear derrick mast is way too short, causing the counter weight tray to float in mid air when the real one barely touches the ground. This also nessecitates the support wheels
- The geometry of the tracks is wrong.
- The hook block is a joke. A crane of this calibre should really have 3 sheaves minimum. For perspective, the largest hook block in the official load chart for the real crane has 30 sheaves.
- The superstructure ballast is missing.
I greatly enjoyed reading your comment. Thank you for pointing out all of its inaccuracies
The last arm piece is way to short look at the original, And what about those silly support wheels?
@@tonyrobinson362 Every single lattice section on the crane is too short. And yes, the support ball bearings look ridiculous.
Very bad proportions.
i built such a crane with all functions included that was 2.6 meters high!
When do you think youâll get your hands on this set
When will your review be published? I'm just curious about the embargo date for this set.
cmon it's technic, technic isn't supposed to that expensive. So no I won"t get this set
Star Wars has sets that are more expensive. I think technic should have even bigger sets since it is among LEGOâs top 5 best selling themes. Honestly Technic deserves the BIGGEST sets ever
@@Unbrickme well the set is already 110⏠cheaper! But am a ninjago guy so i'll be spending my money on ninjago
putting pricing aside, I do really like how it looks and the functions seem great its just that I'm not quite sure about all those larger one piece frames. it feels like the building experience is more like putting together a flatpack rather than a Lego set. Maybe not a bad idea just yea idk.
This set should've not been priced at $700, just because it is massive. I had to double check but the Liebherr crawler crane's height is 100 cm according to the description. That is the same height as the extended boom of the 42082 rough terrain crane (I do not have that set, I looked at the description), meaning the 42146 is still not the tallest Technic set ever. But rather, the most overpriced LEGO Technic set ever. Additionally, the 42082 rough terrain crane had 4057 pieces and it was retailed for $300, but the new crawler crane costs $400 more despite containing only 2883 pieces.
And you can have Mould King Liebherr crane for like 200$, it has over 1000 more pieces and interesting counterweight mechanism and is twice it's height. Yes I know that Chinese brands are not the real deal and there are some ethics issues involved in buying from them. But the quality is almost on par with lego.
Revolutionary with so unique features, pieces, mechanisms. I definitely wait a few months and see what is the real retail price will be. Maybe if I find a used one is a much better deal. When comes your review about it?
My review of this set is coming VERY soon
@@Unbrickme Yes, that was in the video. I guessed that Lego is very secretive about these presentation/embargo dates. Of course I understand that you can't tell me the exact date of that review.
Freaking AMAZINGâŠPre-ordered mine today!
Still too expensive imo
$600 Would still be overpriced, but it would certainly be more reasonable, and $600 still allows LEGO to have a high profit margin
I might Pre-order this during double points coming soon.
It looks awesome, but i'd have nowhere to put it.
It is definetely overpriced, considering few things: low piece count, general problems and limits of Control + systems (it has better range, but also has many downsides), and a whole concept of new and specialized pieces. In my opinion, LEGO should improve your creativity and skill for finding solutions. For example, those new frames can be replaced with standard beams and connectors while using some clever geometry. Also, a volume of specific set is a very funny argument for increasing its price.
Standard beams and connectors will exponentially raise the parts count and hence the overall price of the set though, if Lego never made those specialised parts
The sheer height of it drew me in, exceeding that of the bucket wheel excavator (42055) that I was so happy and lucky to receive years ago. Regrettably, it brings in yet more specialized parts, many of which may not see use in other creations. 42055, if I recall, also brought new pieces in year 2016, most notably the 1/4 Technic inline gear rack piece (24121). That piece is still seeing use today in many, MANY official sets and MOCs, but I don't think these brittle-looking truss, strut and slider pieces will get the same glamour. Those structures were already possible with existing pieces.
Edit: And yes, the pricing is consistently steep with their other 2020/21/22/23 sets, much steeper than it was in 2016, but that should come to the surprise of no one.
Take me about 2 years to save up for this maybe 2 and 1/2 unless i get it for Christmas (i really hope)
I think personally that lego doesn't care about inflation and they should care more.
It's robbery, should cost 400$ at most, just cant believe lego thinks aobut fans like idiots, sadly there's many of them...
REVIEW PLEASE!!! đđ Can't wait !!!
Would you do a comparison with the 42082?
Of course!
Itâs more expensive in Canada and I will be getting it.
Man these looks super nice, but the price, i dont know?
They should have used the wider tracklinks from the CAT dozer on this one, the normal ones look too skinny
I don't think lego had off roading on their list for this one. đ Maybe just an acute slope, but not a hill.
Lego is acting like it is trying to shoot its legs. First they change the power functions that where great instead of improving them with a hub for remote control. Many people, including me, invested thousands of euros, buying technic sets and collecting power functions for their builds, for lego to come one day and say, sorry, my new line of electronics is no longer compatible with the 50 motors you have because i simply don't care (i hope sbrick, buwizz and power fx, which i support by buying their great products, keep proving them why powered up is too little too late) .
Next they decided to stop designing great technic sets which were from scratch and were affordable and all their sets for the last years are licenced and with much less complicated mechanisms than the older ones but with double or triple the price. A decade back you could buy a set for 200 euros which would be more complex than a 350 euro set of today. Most of us don't care if it says Liebherr, Volvo, Mercedes, Porche, Lamborgini etc. on it, if we have to pay the licence 100-200 euros extra. And no, a set that costs 400 euros, which has its doors opening and some pistons moving, is not technic, is just lazy work and easy cash.
Finaly, they discontinued mindstorms. OMG, what the hell were they thinking?? Yes spike prime was a good entry for little children into robotics and yes robot inventor was just a big mistake. For the first time, lego abandoned a mindstorms series just 2 years after the release (reminds me of windows 8!). But they could simply release a new great mindstorms set which would be closer to ev3 (but with scratch maybe) and of course to be compatible with ev3. Every childrens robot competition and robot academy used ev3s. They owned the market and people invested thousands of euros on them. You can't simply turn your back at them, because as they did with the garbage robot inventor, they will turn their back at you too. Who, that owns a robot academy (i live in the 4th largest city in Greece, Heraklion, and there are 9 robot academies for children), will ever trust lego again if it decides to release new mindstorm sets in a few years and not invest in other cheaper and more reliable platforms? Lego gave away a market that was dominated by lego sets, and will hardly ever claim it again.
In conclusion, I was a Lego fun who has spent over 10,000 euros in technic and mindstorms and i'm greatful of the joy building with them is giving me. Until a few years ago, all my friends and colleagues were asking me what lego sets to buy for them or their kids. But nowadays i only tell them about older sets on bricklink. Most of the new technic sets are just not technic and without mindstorms (i get mad just by reffering to it), it's not worth it. Near the 2000's Lego was close to bankruptcy. They managed to overcome it but 20 years later, this, only licenced sets in every category, will ruin them. Forgive me my friends for talking too much. Panos from Greece.
Looks nothing like the Lr 13000. I am disappointed. They didn't even use the new track piece that was in the Volvo bulldozer set.
*bulldozer Caterpillar *
looks pretty cool, I wish the counterweights had more studs/pinholes on them though, also wish this set had a gearbox
Good points! How do you feel about those supports at the back?
@@Unbrickme Part of me thinks the Lego designer should be making the model balance without them but then the other side is that it will at least balance, and if I got this I would keep this inside so I'm not really worried about offroad potential, I do feel it detracts from the look a little but I prefer function over look
@@HotPubsinFreo I think it's likely that it won't work very well on carpets, which could be a bit of a bummer for some people
@@bartybum ahh ok fair point there!
It's very funny to see Lego fans trying to explain Lego's absolutely irrational prices. Like cattle who are happy about the colorful axes of their butchers. There are better quality sets of cranes available from alternative producers with more than twice the parts and only a third of the price of Lego.
I bought a similar model 2 years ago from a china clone. It's two times bigger (the booms reach 1,90 meters), two times the pieces (4200 approx.) but half the price
Too expensive, no way.
Expensive but I'm still curious how it is
Same here! Iâm so excited for this set I havenât been this excited for a technic set since the liebherr excavator hype of 2019
ich finde es eine frechheit das der nicht 1.50 hoch ist dann wĂ€re der preis fĂŒr mich ok
If youâre a crane lover and a liebherr lover, you know that this model is all wrong. It doesnât look like the lr13000
Lego! The counterweights could (and should) be made in small cement pieces, even with Lego's logo. it would be much cheaper.

No theyâre made from steel. Those exact balls appeared in many previous sets

Review in few days....
I agree that the set is extremely overpriced, but I honestly think LEGO was forced into this unfortunate pricing situation. First of all, This set contains so many large new frame pieces to construct the main boom section, and the heavy weights used as a counterweight surely cost more than average LEGO bricks. Also, the control plus elements are very expensive, and this set comes with a whopping 6 motors and two hubs. Additionally, LEGO planned on releasing this set last year, but postponed the release of the set by a year because the model suffered from structural issues, which means we are paying for another year of design work. All in all, I disagree with the pricing of this set, but if you look at the numbers and the circumstances, it makes sense.
I think Lego got crazy with this one... Buldozer cat has much more pieces for much less price... is the worst price > number of bricks ratio I have seen in a long time. It's big, that's all, but is evident that you are paying for the license... and that sucks. I will pass. Howver I will admit that the number of motors can justify the price enough... but man no way I can put that in any place at my home.
The pricing does not any make sense under no angle at all - there's no explanation whatsoever.
But what's more disappointing is that it's another set with exceptionally poor flexbility due to control+.
Also, the proportions do not match as the base is way to large compared to the crane - in reality this thing can lift up to 200m height. There's no sense of this size due to the mismatched propoportions.
700$??! Yikes! Heillll nahđ€Łđ
I would rather buy the motorized excavator
Say âabsolutelyâ again. Also is Ferrari Daytona not âDaytona beachâ
The Daytona Beach in Florida ABSOLUTELY the best place to swim
It is just a middle finger for their customers. They still believe people will buy it doesn't matter the price, so they can do this...
It has relatively few pieces, but many of the pieces that it has are very large. Still overpriced, but đ€·ââ this is a probable reason for the very high cost per piece.
Ferrari Daytona Beach?
Yes
Cheap DC motors cheap hubs, no remote no metal parts (no hook , no counterweights) never ever worth the price....
I miss metallic hooks.
@@Unbrickme I ordered the metallic hook a couple days ago for mine. I am finished with bags 3 after picking it up yesterday at the Lego Store. Fun build so far...but you know that by now.
Motors are cheap, hubs are cheap, Lego Parts are cheap. Ridiculous Price tag.
I do have a perfect excuse not to buy it (it is too large for my Lego cabinets and our 4 bedrooms are already filled up with Lego cabinets from top to bottom), howeverâŠ.. I canât wait to buy it and build it. You just cannot pass this one, can you?
Got mine yesterday on release day. Finished bags 3 in the evening. Fun build so far...you should enjoy it.
700 never makes sense
Still wayyyyyy to expensive.
never ever worth it becasue it has like 2883 parts.. you just connect panels with pins means the half are pins and the ''battery boxes'' should be rechargeable arent even hidden you see all cables there are no gears and it dont tven like a liebherr without stickers.. the Liebherr from Mould king looks better..
Boom way to small and skinny looks ridiculous
a plastic rc toy cost $700, great
Inflation
700$ absolutely makes NO SENSE. Sorry
I won't buy it because it has all those PU components which can't be reused unless you want to become a programmer. PU is such an overpriced fail. I love the look of it but I don't want $300 worth of useless electronics.
WAY overpriced! Should be under $500, or even less.
Too big and too expensive.
